I have sailed as Chief Officer and later as Captain on board the Wind Spirit until the change of management in May 1992. The steering wheels on the Flying Bridge where then used nearly every cruise letting the passengers steer the ship under supervision of the Captain.
Windstar sailing ships are on our list! Nearly booked Wind Surf for Christmas, but we'll be traveling as a family of 3. They turn that dining nook into a bed. I started getting anxious about the size of the cabin, no balcony and the teeny bathroom. We have an Airstream, so we are used to small spaces, but even my camper has a glass door on the shower! My husband and son also appreciate a good formal night or two to dress up in their tuxes and the teenager was wondering exactly how far he would be able to roam away from us on this small ship. I think we just need a little more space, so we are looking at Silversea for the next cruise and saving Windstar for a couples' trip. She sure is a beautiful ship! And I am always amazed how you guys get the most amazing shots that make it look like a mostly empty ship. I know that takes a lot of effort and we appreciate you!
Hmm, yes, whilst our room was lovely, three might be a bit of a squeeze. Sailing on a tall ship is a wonderful experience though and Windstar always makes a cruise special 😍 Hope you enjoy Silversea and get to sail on a tall ship soon. Thanks for watching 👍
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in the Mediterranean on WindStar. Outstanding food, exceptional French and Italian wines at very good prices. Thank you, Romi, for being such a wonderful wine steward.
We went to French Polynesia this past spring and it was outstanding. The excursions we sign up for were interesting and informative. We would have no problem to recommend Windstar for anyone looking for a relaxing cruise.
As you know, we were on the Breeze a couple of weeks before you guys, I was looking forward to this video just to compare the two ships. The Breeze has more space of course, but the public areas are certainly recognizable as Windstar. The "suites" on the Breeze are also bigger, however, if you get an original "suite" like ours, the bed is right next to the bathroom which can lead to some crawling across the bed while the wife is getting ready situations. Other than that, and the same food every day for breakfast, I can honestly say it was one of the best cruises I have been on, the crew is simply fantastic, maybe it was because there was only 140 passengers on our cruise, but I really would be hard pressed to find a single fault with them. When we book our next cruise, the first place we will be looking is Windstar, are they for everyone, nope, but in my mind, that's not such a bad thing.
Thanks for watching and commenting. You’re right, Windstar won’t suit everyone, but we love them, especially the three new ‘extended’ ships and the redesigned suites. Happy sailing 😊👍
Ahh... Windstar. One of my favorite lines. But probably not for everyone. Their ships tend to be on the small side which makes them ideal for getting into places that bigger ships generally can't go. This makes the line very popular with experienced and destination oriented passengers. This is NOT Cunard. The onboard ambiance is relaxed and very casual. I have found the food to be quite good and the service excellent. But a certain capacity to self entertain is helpful as these are not your typical Las Vegas style floating amusement parks although the watersports facilities do mark them out from their more traditional competition. Most cabins are cozy and comfortable, but luxurious is not a term I would use to describe them. That doesn't bother me in the least, but again if your looking for really higher end amenities, luxo-staterooms and endless forms of entertainment, this might not be for you. On which note; the ships are really adult oriented with rather limited resources for kids. On the other hand, if your the sort who is happy curling up on a deck chair with a good book and watching the world sail by, you might just fall in love with this cruise line.
This ship does look so interesting. Potentially a silly question - on a ship that size, do you feel the movement much more than on a more modern, larger ship?
Yes, you do feel it move more. We (probably foolishly) thought that since we were island hopping it would be smooth seas but as soon as we left the atols we started to feel the motion. But we’ve had much worse and it was amazing to sail under wind power ⛵️ 💙
Looks lovely and we love the backdrops. Just wondered if there were enough loungers on deck to cater for everyone? Was there ever towels out at 6am?? Thanks for the great video.
We never had a problem finding a lounger. There was a lovely sun deck at the front of the ship in front of the bridge with plenty of loungers, and quite a few around the aft pool deck area. Definitely never saw any towels out 👍
The wooden wheel to the best of my knowledge is not for steering the ship. Having just been on Windsurf at that Wheel twice in 2023 18 days each trip. Ps We love Windstar our favorite cruise line.
Thank you very much! I could use a week or two on this ship. And in Polynesia. How about it? How's the corona situation out there? They were badly hit about a year ago.
thank you so much for the video we will be on that ship in one week 😁. Quick question... we have been wondering where your suitcases go in the rooms ... is there room under the bed? or do the suitcases go somewhere else? Thank you in advance!!! and we really enjoy watching your videos.
Sorry for late reply, trying to catch up in the never ending stream of comments 😆 Hope you had a fabulous cruise and enjoyed time in the lovely Wind Spirit ❤️
Thanks for the informative video but I don't think Windstar is my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of the low ceilings and overall, the boat looks cramped and dated.
Thanks for watching. Understandable, but we found that the overall experience and romanticism of being on a sailing ship in the Society Islands outweighed the compromises of sailing on an older tall ship.
Thank you for watching. One thing we enjoy is getting to experience ships that are not going to appeal universally to everyone. Variety is the spice of life, so the saying goes. 🙂

Thanks for watching Bob 👍
That ship is beautiful, but I cannot get over how stunning the surroundings are
Absolutely ❤️ Thanks for watching 👍😊

Thanks for watching and your detailed response which sums up the Windstar experience so perfectly. We love their little ships ❤️
Love those tall masts!
Us too, so lovely to turn the engines off and sail under wind power ⛵️ ❤️
Lovely reception area and main dining room. Surprisingly large inside in common areas.
Thanks for watching Cheri 😊
That is a Gorgeous Ship.
It really is ❤️
Thanks for watching 👍
Stunning backdrop. 🙏. OTBC!
Ship looks great for its age! The staterooms are about the same size I had on the Paul Gauguin Porthole Room (200 sq ft vs 190 for Windstar.
Thanks for watching. We would love to try it on Paul Gauguin (for research purposes only obviously 😆)
We Really enjoy your quality filming and we always keep an eye out for any new postings. This was enticing! Thank you. We'd love to be on that ship!
Thank you 😊 Such a beautiful ship in a stunning location, a real bucket list cruise 💙⛵️
Beautiful ship, will try it in the near future.
Thanks for watching Lou 👍😊
Enjoyed your video! French Polynesia is one of our favorite places.
Thank you 😊 It’s indescribable ❤️
Brilliant - you need a bigger audience!
We definitely do Philip! I hope you've subscribed and helped us in this way! :D
Goodness!!!
Indeed 😁 Thanks for watching 👍
Well... I'm a dreamer 😮 Beautiful. May be some day.
🤞 Thanks for watching 😊

yep yep and yep
I think the movement is minimal and not much than let's say Viking
Great review. Now we want to go!
Thank you 😊 Hope you get there soon 🙏
So Rich … I’m curious as to your rationale for choosing Windstar vs. Paul Gauguin 🤔. Was it the uniqueness of a sail ship? The food?
Hope we answered your question fully enough on the chat last night.
Thanks for joining us 👍
@@visitwithus … I wasn’t able to attend the chat last night (prior engagement ) so will look for it later today 😉

Thanks for joining us again Cheri 😊
Thank you very much! I could use a week or two on this ship.
And in Polynesia. How about it?
How's the corona situation out there?
They were badly hit about a year ago.
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
We went in May 2022 and it was beautiful. French Polynesia is a real bucket list destination ❤️❤️❤️
thank you so much for the video we will be on that ship in one week 😁. Quick question... we have been wondering where your suitcases go in the rooms ... is there room under the bed? or do the suitcases go somewhere else? Thank you in advance!!! and we really enjoy watching your videos.

Did you get an answer to this question. Leaving in 3 weeks. Thanks
I would like to try it
Hope you get to one day 🤞
Thanks for watching 👍
@@visitwithus as long as I get luxurious cabin 😊
If you want to work here what can I do to get a job ?

i was want to go but you have to be vaccinated oh well ill spend my money else where
One day they might relax that rule, but I'm afraid in the mean time... At least you can watch our videos eh? ;)
Not needed from early June this year.
thank you, but not for us.
Thank you for watching. One thing we enjoy is getting to experience ships that are not going to appeal universally to everyone. Variety is the spice of life, so the saying goes. 🙂
@@visitwithus It absolutely is for us, since the large floating 'amusements' are utterly awful. The smaller the better, short of hiring our own yacht.
Holy smokes! This is for me for sure
The curse of foolish masks.
This was in May 2022.
Thanks for watching.
