  • On the market since the mid 1990's, the FDA-cleared Reliefband wearable therapeutic neuromodulation device may be worth a try for motion-sick-prone passengers, and the company recently released the next-gen device called the Reliefband 2.0. The redesigned device loses the drab clinical styling and now looks much like a cutting edge fitness tracker. Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano ordered one and prepared this overview video of its design and feature set.

I've had the 1st generation ReliefBand for years on my sailboat, and it DOES provide some relief. I could stay in shape way longer in rough conditions than usual, as long as I use the band 30 minutes or so before departing. You have to make sure the band fits at the right place on the wrist. Bigger turn-off is that it's very difficult to keep the band on the right spot when you're fighting with your sails, your balance, etc.

I suffer from severe nausea throught my whole pregnacy. I just got mine a week ago. At the beginning was not working, but then my son moved it accidentally and it started to work I felt a stronger shoking effect all the way to my middle finger. It took ny nausea away for like 95 or 97% away. Which is truly appreciate it. Because I can finally have a real rest on my all day nausea. So I say give it a shot.

I have the 1st generation of this device, and as a sufferer of motion sickness, I can personally attest to the relief it provides.
I personally think it is an inner ear issue. Regardless of the cause, the symptoms of motion sickness are real, and if you suffer from it, it is not only uncomfortable (or downright miserable) during a flight, it can take several of hours to wear off, so it can really ruin what would otherwise have been a great adventure. It has made a believer out of me.
Whether the relief is from the placebo effect or not doesn't matter to me. How much would I pay to not feel like that when flying with my husband and ruining our adventures? Aviation is not a cheap hobby. $175 to allow your friends and loved ones to enjoy time with you in small airplanes is a small price to pay in my book.

Or you could - I dunno - splurge on a 100-pill count Dramamine bottle for $4.

tjbtech Or you could, I dunno, look up the fucking side effects, and speculate why someone wouldn’t want to take it 🤦‍♂️. You completely missed the point of why it was made. It’s ironic that people like you that have no idea what they’re talking about, are giving opinions about things they don’t understand. It’s not magic, it’s actually very simple if you take a second and rub your two brain cells together for a moment. I don’t own this, but how the device works is not rocket science. There’s plenty to be skeptical about, basic nerve stimulation to relieve nausea shouldn’t be one of them. But sure, keep claiming snake oil? Showing your ignorance isn’t going to do you any favors.

As someone that gets motion sickness often, I'm interested in the device, but I'm very skeptical.

Michael O I was skeptical too and bought the 1st gen version last year after getting sick on every flight I was on. Ginger only worked half the time and I was throwing up when getting off the plane and was desperate. I figured what the heck. If I spend $70 and it works, i would’ve spent $500 on it. If It didn’t work, I’ve spent more money on a nice meal in one night, so I decided to try it. Best decision I ever made. I don’t get sick on planes anymore. And it’s helped my wife’s sister with morning sickness. It really is magic and I’m really glad I bought it!

I bought it for my cruise in April, I get car, air, and seasick, and this worked perfectly, when I started to feel nauseous I just turned it up! It did sting a little at the higher settings, but was still better than being sick.

I have also been paid to say some random story about how it helped me and is well worth the money. It helped my sick grandma lose AIDs or something.

But, how exactly does it work, like physically?I mean, does it shock you more when you get more sick, and how would it know that you're getting more motion sick? Why do pulses of current near a nerve on your wrist affect your brain in that way- and why does no other legit medical devices use the same modus operandi? Why is the thing he points to as the "median nerve" actually just a tendon? Without compelling answers to these questions, I'm left thinking this thing is 100% snake oil.

It's an aviation saying, where you rent a plane and fly 1hr to eat a cheese burger at a far off burger joint. Net cost 100$. More like 150 now

$175 for the device vs scrubbing vomit off your GTN 750.
    Not much thinking needed there.

RegressMeNot How about $175 plus scrubbing vomit off the 750? Because that is what you’ll get... this thing has zero actual effect. You will get the same results wearing polka dotted underwear against nausea as you would wearing the device.

As a person who gets sea sick in the shower I bought one out of desperation because I love to cruise and hate the marked drowsiness caused by drugs. It works. I don’t travel without it. And it works if you’re already sick in just a few minutes at that. I was a doubter as well but no longer and I highly recommend it.

Some people suffer from chronic nausea. You want to experience real he'll imagine spending your waking hours either vomiting or feeling like your about to. These folks aren't stupid, they are desperate for some relief
