Welcome to Murder Mystery Theater.
After 100+ re-edits and uploads I can now bring yall this under the radar Poirot movie breakdown. Peter Ustinov, Faye Dunaway, & David Suchet all star in this made for TV movie Poirot story. The direction they go in this film is unique to any Poirot film Ive seen yet. in We will also review the other two made for TV Poirot films so look out for those in the future.
For now let us apply a simple formula to help us solve any murder mystery film or book. Along with breaking down the mystery of this movie I will also leave my review at the end. Jump to where you want to watch using the time code below.

Both poirots are so good. I almost do wish there was a multiverse (as overplayed as it is) episode where they both solved a case. they are so distinct from each other but very entertaining.
I kinda would not be at that if that ever happened
The sheer hilarity of perhaps the most beloved Poirot actor playing Japp in this is so meta.
Meta before it was popular
My dislike of the first two Branagh Poirots has more to do with comparing them to the 1974 and 1978 films that were infinitely better. I cut Ustinov’s TV movies slack because they didn’t have the budget to do anything period. This was beyond low budget it was microbudget so I just enjoy see Ustinov again.
Yea always happy to see Ustinov in this role and yea I really figured it was a budget thing but it really threw me off some moments more than others cause sometimes I completely forgot what year they were in
I have seen this several times, and I agree with the time jump to the 80's was a mistake, but not as big as the leering comment. So crass, and out of character. Loved the Family Guy cutaway you used in this and another review.
Yea the 80s time thing and the comment threw me off so much
Thank you for checking out both of my reviews
I am happy to see this review. I was wondering what happened when you said it would be out last Monday.
Just so you know, the name is pronounced Oost i noff or Oost i novv not neff! :)
Yea apologies for that I thought the version I made was all clear then it turned into a 5 day battle of edits and uploads
And ahhhh will keep the pronunciation in mind going forward
@@NerdsAtNiteHonestly, Casablanca was only 45 years old when this film took place. Poirot was in his 70's or 80's in this story in the books, so it makes sense that elderly Poirot played by Ustinov was old enough to have seen Casablanca when it premiered in 1942. Book Poirot was also mean to Hastings, and others, in the books. Poirot did not drive. He DID NOT ogle women though.
Having Poirot in the '80's was because of budget. I always look at it as an alternative version of Poirot, like a different universe.
I also enjoy Branagh's interpretation of the character, even though he strays from the source material. So did Suchet and I like his adaptations too.
I love these reviews. Keep em coming please!
@@kugelweg yea I get it like why they did it, for financial reasons but he would’ve had to have seen a movie in 45 years known what movies are or learned how to drive, it’s something they just made it a point to have and those things stand out and when they paid attention to it, it took me out of the movie
But yea when I look at it as multiverse Poirot it eases my mind a bit
Yea I have a place for Suchet and Branagh poirots all separate in my head and they all live peacefully lol
Thank you for just taking time to watch and comment your thoughts and yea I got the other two made for tv poirots on the way and a few other murder mysteries
@@NerdsAtNite I understand your point about Poirot must have heard of or seen a film in 45 years. I hadn't thought of that!
I love your reviews.
@@kugelweg thank you very much super glad I can make something you enjoy and that’s so fun to talk about
I like Ustinov in this one. Checking out the woman was a little weird but all the other eccentric behavior was fun. Absolutely hare Branagh as Poirot. Hot tempered action hero. No Poirot is a super intelligent eccentric and egotistical little man. Ustinov will always be my favorite Poirot.
Yea despite the movie Ustinov is always top notch as Poirot
@@NerdsAtNite No it's not the best movie, but Ustinov and Faye Dunaway are great in it, although Dunaway being the only big name in the film kind of gives it away who the killer is. But still totally watchable fun little Poirot murder mystery.
@@basquat76 yea def not the best but the performances are top notch like a made for tv movie doesn’t deserve performances this good, and yea the suspect list is very much narrowed down but seeing it all play out is what makes this a fun watch
Have you seen the Suchet version of “Orient Express”? This is the cruelest, coldest, most hateful and judgmental version of HP on record.
I have not but it’s on my list to watch and cover on this channel
Yea I’ve heard his version is an interesting take
Shame about the background music. I can't watch this video.
Me either
