    Hi, I'm glad I found your videos about pilea glauca, there's so little information about it! I noticed from the vase (hope I'm not wrong) you probably bought this from Ikea - mine is from it and yesterday when I tried to repot it I noticed that the soil was really hard and couldn't separate the roots, I ended up putting it back but I'm worried about the bad soil she has. Do you have any advice on repotting this? Thank you so much!

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  4 года назад

      Hi! Oh yes hard soil is not good... Hmm I would maybe water my pilea glauca a day before, this will make the roots strong and the soil a bit softer around them... Try to remove the soil very gently from the roots (as much as possible but very carefully) with your fingers... I have a potting mix recipe here as well that may help when repotting. You can find here 👉 ruclips.net/video/EMBzzbQ_nr8/видео.html

      Plants and Lucia yes I do have instagram, and since I found you on RUclips I started following there as well :) I tried to repot it with moistened soil but it seemed hard, I was actually thinking to let it dry so that it becomes more "powdery" maybe.. • @atariashley
    @atariashley 5 лет назад +5

    Hi Lucia!
    I’d like to convert to bottom watering for my house plants. I’m new to keeping house plants, and this looks like an easier method. 😊 I have a few questions:
    Do you keep all your plants in the plastic nursery pots? Even the bigger ones?
    I have a large Snake Plant that I’m getting ready to repot and want to repot it for bottom watering if you recommend it.
    Do you trim your nursery pots if they don’t quite fit in the decorative pot? I need to start collecting recycled ones so I can start converting!
    Thanks 😊 🌱

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  5 лет назад +8

      Hiii Ashley! So great you are thinking about converting to bottom watering 💦😊! I find it super easy and also really sustainable, as you can use the same water for various plants!
      1. I keep almost all of my plants in plastic containers that then go to decorative pots. The only one that I don't have in a plastic container is my monstera, she is 30 years old and super big haha so for that one I actually water from the top! How big is your snake plant? Could you send me a picture on Twitter (@LuciaPlants) or on Instagram (@plantsandlucia)? I have a medium size snake plant and I water her from the bottom, she is very happy!
      2. Hmmm I don't trim my plastic pots, because I always save the old ones for when I repot my smaller plants. I would recommend this because it's loving for your plants and for the planet, it's such a great feeling ❤️! Thank you so much for your questions! Let me know if this is helpful, and I'm here for any other questions you may have ❤️❤️

    Hi Lucia, I was wondering what the advantage of this method is. When is it better to water the plants from the bottom rather than the top?

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  5 лет назад +17

      Hi Zoee! Thank you so much for your question 😊! In my experience, this method works better than watering from the top. This is because from the bottom, the water goes through the drainage holes up, and fills up the pot getting to the roots.. Whereas when watering from the top, depending on the soil, water can go to the sides and down the edge of the soil (not getting to the roots)
      I water all of my plants using this method 😊 and it has worked really well! Sometimes I add some water to the top (while the rest of the soil soaks in the water from the bottom) that way I make sure that water gets to every single hole of air in the soil :)
      Please let me know if this makes sense and if you have any other questions 💚!

    Hi Lucia, Do you find bottom watering like this works well for plants that are in terracotta pots too? When I tried it, it seemed like the pot itself (instead of the soil) soaked up the water.

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  4 года назад

      Hi! I have since changed my method with the plastic pots and I think the new method may also work better for the terracotta pots ☺️ I now water from the top and the bottom at the same time... So I water from the top, let the water go through the soil and draining holes to a container, where I leave my plants for about 10 to 15 minutes... You can see my new method here :

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Sorry I missed your comment earlier! hmm you can overwater your plant with bottom watering as it depends not so much on the method but on the frequency that you water her.
      However, bottom watering will help to prevent overwatering, as when you are done you make sure that your plant is not standing in water. But always check before you water just to make sure. I usually let the soil dry in between waterings with most of my plants and it helps me prevent too much water :)

      Hi! I usually try to filter the water for my plants, and especially for my calatheas I let it stand for at least one day (the water in Berlin is very hard and they are very sensitive to hard water!) I'd recommend leaving the water stand for one day or filter it if you can :)

  • @OJa-cn1jk

    @MJsmom10 5 лет назад

    Hi! So I’m guessing bottom-watering doesn’t really work unless plants are still in the nursery pots? All, except 2 of my 10 plants are in actual pots (with & without drainage holes), and of that, my 2 Snake Plants don’t have drainage holes... but I do have 1-2” of pebbles in the bottom of each pot.

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  4 года назад

      Hi! Yes, for the bottom watering method, you should have a pot with drainage holes so the water goes down 💙, I always recommend this method because you actually make sure that the water gets to the roots... It also helps to save water, as you can use the same water for various plants you may be watering that day ☺️🌿🌷

      What I am doing is using a foliage fertilizer like GS plant foods 'Ocean Magic Sea Minerals", and i also put a little bit of worm castings on top of soil and just add vey little water to the top :)
