Damn this band is perfect for extreme metal beginners. Weird they slip my mind when requesting metal songs because their first 4 albums are absolute classics IMO. You're definitely hearing the best stuff from their best album too. Bodom After Midnight is my favorite song from them. The vocals for Bodom are kind of generic, but after years of listening to this kind of stuff, I can understand like 80% of what he says nowadays without having to look it up.
So interesting to see you call the vocals, "generic." To me, not many metal bands have vocals like Alexi. The generic vocals are ones like Opeth and Atreyu and Arch Enemy.
I remember visiting my grandparents at the countryside for the Christmas vacations back when I was in high school. I frequently used to go hiking in the woods - deep snow and temperatures below -15 C, with Follow the reaper and Hatebreeder blasting I my headphones. It was amazing

Welcome to the wonderful world o Melodic Death Metal man ! My favorite sub genre in Metal. I really recommend Kissing The Shadows by COB, it's their best song, the guitar work is absolutely killer. If you want to try some other MDM band I recommend early In Flames, pioneers of the genre and it can't get much better than this, really. The songs The Hive or Golias Disarm Their Davis are excellent choices
MDM is the greatest subgenre in my opinion too. Early In Flames is great. Also Dark Traquillity from their earliest. But nowadays Wintersun is the most talented band for me. Also Wolfheart and forepassed Before The Dawn was awesome.

Are You Dead Yet? In your Face, Needled 24/7, If You Want Peace, Prepare For War, Trashed, Lost and Strung Out are some good ones by this band. They kick ass. Metallica and Megadeth got me into metal but this band is in a different realm of style.

This album was produced by Peter Tagtgren who also has a couple of his own bands. I highly recommend checking out his band Hypocrisy, particularly the song “Let the Knife Do the Talking”. So, so heavy and he always manages to incorporate catchy melodies

Probably not the best song to start with Children of Bodom. It’s a good song, just hard to get into. You should do Are You Dead Yet, Angela Don’t Kill or Needled 24/7. Great reaction though, it’s crazy to see how open-minded you are about the more extreme genres of metal. It took me many years to get into any death metal, but now it’s one of my favourite genres, especially melodic death.
Oh heck yeah it took me years too and just to get into too metal but I became feed up with main stream pop music and what my brother was listening too.
I don’t know, children of bodom sounds too happy for me. You have to do Jeff Loomis The Ultimatum or Tragedy And Harmony. To hear ultimate power do Autarch or Thetys by Conquering Dystopia. Please trust me you have to react to those songs ...it’s opening horizons, not kidding (my English top notch lol)
