Good, straightforward advice. I approach the hobby the same way u do except I don't really do water changes anymore. I remember the last time I did, it wiped out the entire inhabitants in my small 10 gallon. Only used my test kit once or twice since I got it. I think many people tend to overfeed their fish. I also don't go by strict feeding schedules as fish in the wild also don't go by strict feeding schedules. I sometimes feed everyday or every other day. Overfeeding your fish make them feel sluggish and less active from my experience.

You are correct Sir! I did have a nasty bout with the city water once but fixed that with a carbon filter set up. Never had a problem since. I did get away from weekly changes for awhile and started having different problems. Snails started dieing and I finally made the connection with the calcification I wasn't getting back into the water.

New here, appreciate your content. With respect to this video, years ago as a young man I had several tanks 55's and 135's and had alot of success with those. Life got in the way so got rid of it all. But recently I decided to get a small tank 29 gallon for my office. Well I found times have changed and I jumped on board and did all the things your advised to today, and fish immediately started dying. So now I have ignored all of that and a couple days ago re-did the tank to the way I would have done it 25 years ago similar to what your doing and the fish are already doing much better.

Excellent video bruh. I agree with most of what you’re saying. Some fish are specialty fish and thus have specific needs as you mentioned discus, however I will mention that some fish really need water flow, or some need as less flow as possible such as angels or they will get stressed out. I don’t like chasing ph unless they are specialty fish like stingrays or wild Altums for example. But I almost always have issues when I mess around moving stuff around and stuff. Most of my tanks are overstocked, and for that reason I to put guardrails on such as water movement and large filtration. Good subject matter and good explanations though. Bigups to you, nuff respect, and I wish for your continued success 👊🏽

Bro I dig your videos but I don’t see the benefits of telling folks, especially new folks that are learning not to test their water/dissuading them from testing water. There are so many situations where testing is important. Making sure your system is cycled, making sure your water is soft enough for soft water species/hard enough for hard water species, if you’re breeding/raising shrimp/snail/other animals that need higher KH, if you’re working with plecos that need lower KH with specific PH, figuring out if you water is even appropriate for certain species. Testing is important to getting parameters right because living fish don’t necessarily mean thriving fish. Also, testing can help you pin point problems and make informed decisions on how to correct them. Heck testing water while acclimating tricker animals like some shrimp species for example can mean them making it or not. With that said tho, each person can rock how they want in their own fish room. It’s all love and learning.

I test to make sure the balance is still there and nothing has crashed and I rarely if ever loose life. We all have our systems.

Sir, I have always heard that dirt tank like yours often blanch ammonia back into rhe system over time. Just doing water changes mitigates this process??

A good way to make water changes is to reuse the same water after all the 💩 has setled at the bottom of the bucket.

Dude. I just lost seven pseudotropheus saulosi, four boesemani rainbow, and four neon tetras. Two tanks... I did a water change, and I think the water I added was too cold.

    • @BossAquatics

@@BossAquatics I figured out what happened. I took a shower before doing water changes, and those tanks were last. I guess the hot water heater couldn't keep up.
