American sculptor Richard Serra (born 1939) is an accomplished printmaker, who has made over 200 printed works in a span of 45 years. Like his sculpture, Serra’s prints reflect his interest in process, the expansion of scale to monumental proportions, and the artist’s ingenuity in pushing the boundaries of traditional methods and techniques.
Richard Shiff is Effie Marie Cain Regents Chair in Art at The University of Texas at Austin, where he directs the Center for the Study of Modernism. His broad range of publications includes Cézanne and the End of Impressionism (1984), Critical Terms for Art History (co-edited, 1996, 2003), Barnett Newman: A Catalogue Raisonné (co-authored, 2004), Doubt (2008), Between Sense and de Kooning (2011), and Ellsworth Kelly: New York Drawings 1954-1962 (2014). He writes frequently on sculptural practices, including the art of Joel Shapiro and Donald Judd, as well as that of Richard Serra.
Richard Serra: Prints is on view January 28 - April 30, 2017 at Nasher Sculpture Center. Support for the exhibition and related educational and outreach programs has been made possible by a grant from the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation.
