The Forgotten PRIMAL MOVEMENT

  • Primal Movements... we think of squats, running, climbing, lifting something up from the ground. But one of the movements our ancestors did way more than us was interact with the ground. Ground interaction can help mobility, core strength, awareness and develop a more confident, pain-free body. Whatever gets you close to the ground whether it's animal movement, natural movements, primal movements...will benefit your body immensely.

In Eastern cultures the ground is an essential part of the day, but in our own western culture it almost seems try to avoid the ground as much as possible. Well here are four reasons that Josh and Trevor believe we need to rethink our relationship with the ground that may just surprise you. Do you touch the ground daily? Do you take your shoes off and feel the earth? Consider integrating the ground in your daily life and let us know how it goes for yo. These are functional movements that we should all be doing... the forgotten primal movement.

Dancing the Argentine Tango. The interaction is through the shoes and with our partner. Still, it's a great fun way to exercise our core strength to stay well-grounded while challenging our balance with interesting partner interactions. The primal movements that you promote help us to become highly functional dancers.

As a former Activity Director in a nursing home, exercise was my main activity. My program became so popular that I ended up visiting many homes in the county. Seeing first hand how much falls impact senior citizens is disturbing, it's also expensive, costing my state alone over 60 million dollars annually. ( hospital stay, family members taking time off work for care) so keeping the core strong and being acquainted with the ground is a must. Seeing seniors that were permanently disabled because they fell and couldn't move for hours is heartbreaking. Everyone should practice these moves in preparation for aging. Thanks for the awesome video!

I work with the geriatric population doing home health physical therapy. Most of the people I see are stiff, in pain, and unsafe. Just getting them reacquainted with functional movements and increasing body awareness does wonders for them. Then they start getting stronger and moving better and feeling less pain on a daily basis. It is wonderful to help people feel more empowered and be more independent simply by teaching them to move more.

One day, I just did it. Now I can go for about 30 seconds crawling through the house. I think I saw it on one of your videos. Continuously amazed at how well you guys deliver these beautiful nuggets of movement. I'll admit, I started spending more time on the ground after your squat video months ago. Now I'm hooked on stretching while touching the ground or floor. Whether it be my wrists, knees, calves, etc, the more time I spend on the floor, the better I feel when I do these stretches or exercises. In fact, I started goofing around more at the climbing gym by doing shoulder roils and back falls in a controlled manner out of the blue. Having learned much of this years ago when I was a kid in martial arts, it all came back to me once I developed a more intimate relationship with the ground, pad, or floor. Kudos guys!

These guys know how to show viewers instructions from a nice cozy modern home (which says to the more civilized of society that they're not cave men) while going out side and getting down to the nitty gritty with very important primitive movements and exercises (which speaks correctly to us more rugged and primitive types) who prefer less modern living and like to do things more natural and manual which is more effective in our environments. I’m not going to say that it’s revolutionized my life but I will say that I feel more connected to my health and the earth. Furthermore, it has put me on the path to realize that my traditional bodybuilding exercises that I’ve done for quite some time are not really doing me any favors. I’m incredibly strong, have very low body fat, and yet can barely walk down the stairs I cannot lift my arms above my head and overall I would say my body functions at 70% as a result of constantly being injured or having inflammation from improper workout techniques. I’m looking forward to this new type of exercise, losing some bulk and gaining function. Thank you

My dad actually taught us how to fall when we were kids, and I’ve had to use that knowledge a few times to avoid injury. I’ve been working on including more natural movements into my routine for the last couple years, including using the primal squat often, which has helped my back and legs so much to avoid pain and muscle tightness.

Awesome video! I'm 65 and still sit cross leg on the ground, always have favored the squat style. I was that crazy student in college not sitting in a desk but shoes off, crossed leg on the floor..😊

love moving around on the floor, my friends and i call ourselves floor people for that reason, also a lot of these movements are so critical and integrated into bjj which has been a huge blessing to practice

I have no Table and no Chair - only for living more on the Ground - so I can stretch, move, build natural strength all the time and it is has an big impact on my live.

This makes a lot of sense. During the first two years of quarantine, I would go outside and sit on the ground all day and I felt better, I had no back issues. Since I've been sitting in a chair again I've been having hip pains. Thanks for the video.

I am 66 YO. I learned a technique somewhat similar to this back in the 90’s. It is called Feldenkrais. However, your method really rocks! I will start practicing now. Thank you. Blessings for this 2023!!! 🎉

Grounding. Connect with the earth. Pure inspiration here! Usually sit in meditation pose but now I wanna roll on the ground as once did in childhood.

I am in looove with floor movements!! They have helped me become flexible, aware, stronger, and grounded. Crawling is my go to!!! But a nice 15-20 minutes flow is best!!!🧘🏽🙏
