Another thing that annoys me in a similar type of vein is when docs try to get too sympathetic towards a killer's childhood. Was it nature or nurture is such an annoying argument that i swear is in so many crime docs. It always gives me the impression of an excuse for people like Dennis. Plenty of people have awful urges or have gone through terrible experiences and do not do the type of things these awful people have done. I think it's just an insult to those people that work on themselves, persevere through rough childhoods and times, and choose to get help instead of diving into such selfish, harmful desires. Really such a stupid argument.

That's what makes me so interested but also terrified of this individual Bundy was a malignant narcissist who had problems with ego all his life, and when he was betrayed by his parents and left by his girlfriend it filled him with insurmountable amounts of anger and rage Rader was born into a good family, with completely normal siblings. He was given a completely normal life and became a serial killer entirely because he wanted to, with 0 outside factors What's so terrifying to me is that if I ever have children, even if its an incredibly miniscule chance, I could have a child like Rader
Are people born like this, or is it learned and evolves over time? The scary thing is that they seem to live a normal life among the population. Anytime a kid gets pleasure from torturing animals, that should be a sign that an individual is not normal.
I believe they are born this way and it just evolves as they grow up and understand things better. This animal should've been BTKilled the same way he did his victims. I would love to have a chance to almost kill him, then let him revive himself and then strangle him again, loosen it up... Just over and over again.. then take him out, tie him up and let others throw anything and everything at him.
If I had a kid who tortured animals in ANY way.. omfg. I'd report them immediately to the police. I'd like disown them and put them in serious counseling
I remember kid from childhood who tortured animals ( like blowing frogs like balloons) and as far as I know grew up to be normal. And also those who were the good ones and grew up to be criminals. And also some serial killers actually lived animals and wouldn't hurt them just people
One thing that so many serial killers have in common is a trigger. I believe it's a genetic trait and something flips that switch in the brain, for some it is abuse from their mother, sexual abuse as a child, divorce, home life, etc. God only knows what causes the switch to flip. I grew up severely abused as a child, and after the abuser died, my mother was an alcoholic bar fly, bringing men home, having 3 children with 3 different men. I was emotionally and physically abused by her and my stepfather, and I was extremely violent towards people but never did I harm animals, women or children. I distrusted women and had hatred for them but my moral fabric was just too strong for violence towards weaker individuals. I married, had 6 children and voluntarily sought help for the aggression and violence. Still married to the same woman 17 years later, I don't hit my children or even raise my voice, I guess it just wasn't genetically imprinted in me to have that metaphorical "switch" in my brain. Any abuse towards animals at a young age should be a mandatory red flag on a person. Call it a marker of sorts, but definitely those who exhibit the tendency should be monitored. And no, I never raised a hand to my wife, she is the biggest reason why I am not in prison or dead, she stuck by me and helped me through the darkness.
The way he recounted his crimes was as if he came to terms with his deviant psyche. Reading between the lines, you can almost hear him say, "Oh well, this is something that is beyond my control. I get sexually aroused by torturing and killing people. I had an itch that needed scratching. My victims were just a means to an end." And that is exactly how he saw his victims-as playthings to be disposed of when he satisfied his sick urges.
He is recounting these murders he's committed in such a matter of fact manner, I mean just completely disaffected. He's almost glib when he describes certain killings. Disturbing af.
A lot of serial killers are like that. I've watched interviews with several and they describe their crimes in a nonchalant manner. The most disturbing interview I've watched was with Tommy Lynn Sells on death row. He was being interviewed by Dr Michael Stone. You could see and hear his excitement while describing what it's like to use a knife on someone. Like he was reliving it.
Dennis Rader is an example of how impossible to disguise evil. They could be your next door neighbors. Be aware of your surroundings. I always carry pepper spray, a personal alarm, and a box cutter with me, to protect myself.
ted vin no it’s not they just released the cast from their contracts but the show is still on they might just introduce a new cast or something. Not entirely sure about the specifics. Honestly it would make sense because if they want to continue the BTK story they can’t use the same main characters, as the people they were based on weren’t directly involved in his capture.
Could you imagine being a parent of those boy scouts finding out about him, and seeing those photographs he took of himself hanging in women's clothes knowing your child was sleeping right near him in the middle of the woods. My children will never belong to any scout group or church overnight functions. You never know who the hell those people are.
My sister was on a campout with her boys on a cub scout campout at camp kanza. He was there with i think it was the park city cub Scouts. My sis seen his face and freaked out. He was in the same group camp they was in
You can say the same though about teachers, uncles, careers, nurses… where draw the line? You can’t assume everyone is potential threat when threats are potential in every aspect of life.
Came back to rewatch this after the Idaho arrest and the interview with BTK's daughter. Plenty of similarities from the beginning: murders in a low crime neighborhood, leaving the boy scout camp to commit murder and reduce suspicion, thinking he was smarter than everyone, and so on. Several similarities that make you think what Bryan Kohberger would have done if he wasn't caught in his first attempt.
Plot twist: He pulled off the perfect crime. There's was a serial killer about, with a very distinct calling card. He got rid of his wife under the guise of just another BTK killing.
@@didisaythat4230 But he confessed to the crime though. He wouldn't claim a murder he didn't do. Plus, he knew details that no one else knew besides police. And there was a drawing of his wife, by BTK. So no.
@@didisaythat4230 I wouldn't go so far as to say "all the time" perhaps "sometime" would be more accurate. Who knows if some of those confessions are the result of coercion or plead bargaining or perhaps trying to protect the accused, as happened in a NY state case some yrs. ago

Wowwwwww thats crazy the wife literally was a few words from death kinda wonder how people feel after they find out they were married to a killer like that
Things have gotten even more chilling in the past week or so. Apparently they (whoever currently resides in the home he bought) found 2 hidden trap doors in the house, a journal recounting kills, a trophy room, and with said new evidence they tied a cold case for DECADES in Oklahoma to him, which means it's uncertain how many more "cold cases" were also done by the BTK Killer.
He left semen, left fingerprints, left voice messages, left items at the scene of the crime, and wrote letters to police over a period of 30 years ! Either he's the gold standard of serial killers, or he was helped by police incompetence. I think, the latter.
@@zoodiac57 Rader was random and infrequent. Kinda think he liked the fear he instilled in the community more than the kills. He was communicating early. The keystone kops were 25 years late. They dropped the ball. Blood is on their hands too.

I wish the Otero family had never come here. I wish that they stayed in Puerto Rico. They'd still be alive, and the eldest son wouldn't have suffered so much. I wish him and his oldest younger sibling the absolute best. I'm sorry.
The way he describes the murders so calmly then the pictures after of how he killed them is completely chilling and terrifying how he can stand in front of everyone and say how and what he did to these people say it so calmly like he’s talking about what he had for lunch its shocking. His FIRST murder was an entire family its absolutely insane he would find people and stalk them And just choose who he decided to murder on he literally even reported his own murders he studied these people and had a process he wrote letters and all it was like a game he is truly one of the most sickening serial killers I’ve heard of

I do not understand the thinking behind letting Rader recount all ten murders in public. He had already confessed to the police, in detail. Letting Rader speak publicly of his crimes is EXACTLY what he wanted. His craving for credit was only exceeded by the evilness of his crimes. I feel sorry for the families, not only for their losses, but having to go through this unnecessary recounting by Rader in court. He had plead guilty--that was enough. It must have been tormenting to all those who were affected. I have never seen anything like this, before or since. If this was the judge's idea, shame on him. If this recounting was technically "required" then the Kansas state legislature should really take a look at changing the law.
I have to think that the judge did that in the hopes that it will elicit shame upon him, like it might for a normal human being recounting their sins. But you are right, the man has no shame, and in fact probably enjoyed that he was able to share everything that he did, because instead of shame he feels satisfaction from the attention, and knowing the fact that what he did is now timeless because of the recounting and attention.
Most of the murders were not prosecutable without his confession, which holds up better when given by the suspect in court. I think this was the main reasoning. It helps prevent him from being able to appeal successfully.
There is something So Dark and Sinister in his eyes. Even in his younger pictures, He Had this Evil look. The way he described his murders, he had totally no Remorse.
I am so glad my mom wasn’t a victim. I know Richard E. LaMunyon and I think his time dealing with BTKs murders really damaged that man. It breaks my heart. He refuses to do anymore documentaries on this man. He is alive and thriving. But I think he struggles with ptsd. 💔
I've often heard people call him crazy but i never thought so. Some people just don't have a sense of apprehension at all. It's your built in feature that warns you of something extreme or dangerous. He's an example of how society would be if no one had any inhibitions or value of human life.
I remember I did a report in middle school about this guy and that was before he was caught and they still didn't know who did it it's just crazy how long he got away with it
Most likely WANTED to get caught, he damn well knew they could trace something to a computer!! And, the way he just matter of fact talks in court, I believe it was a game for him.
30:19 is one of the scariest things I have ever seen. Who is acting that goofy and comfortable during all of this? Dahmer and Ridgway were complete cowards during their trials... but not this "man."
Being able to narrate a detailed process of his bind, torture and kill while having that stoic expression is certainly a harrowing experience to hear. His admission towards the crime just proves he isn't guilty of what he's done because that's one way of satisfying him. What's even disturbing for me, is how he tells people his crime like he's telling you a bed time story (as-a-matter-of-fact demeanor).
That intro song, though. Make me picture the old west; a town full of corruption, a no nonsense cowboy and a showdown where the cowboy takes down a whole organization nearly single handed. I could write a whole story just listening to a recurring loop of that music.
"look at that, he misspelled that the way u do". Ummm maybe they should have let us know what he had sent the paper? Or even what the word was? So much is missing here.
Doesnt matter. Just shows his calculated thoughts and how he was willing to kill his own wife to avoid being caught. This bringing more heat onto himself. Pretty impossible to kill your spouse and not get caught. Even in the 70s.
@@pinkpugginz It does matter. If it was a word ppl commonly misspell in the way he misspelled it, then that’s something you can disregard. If it’s a much less common misspelling then that more so raises the question of why his wife didn’t become suspicious.
I was telling someone the other day. I couldn't even imagine poking someone with a knife. So I just don't understand what motivates someone like this regardless of what they've been through in their life. To the point of going and torturing and killing people. You have to have absolutely no concern for other people and what they want and just only be thinking about yourself. Just can't even wrap it around my mind
The existence of such people makes me so angry. Sometimes I even think that they should be tortured the same way they did to their victims. Life is so precious. And how they feel they have the right to take it from other people. Ugh. I just hate them. People who kill and have full intent to do so.

Rader was born into a good family, with completely normal siblings. He was given a completely normal life and became a serial killer entirely because he wanted to, with 0 outside factors
What's so terrifying to me is that if I ever have children, even if its an incredibly miniscule chance, I could have a child like Rader
@@Fellhatthen don't have children?
If I see my spouse misspell the same word as an unidentified serial killer, I would not have said a single damn thing.

And also some serial killers actually lived animals and wouldn't hurt them just people
@@agnediciuniene9861 most serial killers start out with animals but I hate how people hurt animals. Its makes me so mad
My victims were just a means to an end."
And that is exactly how he saw his victims-as playthings to be disposed of when he satisfied his sick urges.

Growing up in the early 2000's my mother was relieved when he was caught. I was born in 91 she told me she feared this man like no other.
If he appeals later on and recants the info only the killer knows is on record
People are stupid back then. Lol
Because Wichita wanted attention. Dennis Rader is the only important thing to ever come from Kansas.
