Click bait anyone?! I have windows 7 on another machine and it has still gotten security updates.

the only updates 7 gets is to windows defender and the 7 defender is only "anti spyware" not anti malware. You use to have to supplement with Microsoft Security Essentials a now defunct free app. I recommend using a third party firewall like Comodo and Malwarebytes premium which still supports 7 i think if you plan to connect to an ISP with 7.

nah bro they decided to do it due to majority market share and also a critical bug fix

Windows 7 Pro and enterprise has only just gone out of support, the home versions went out of support years ago

Move to Linux. Mint is a good choice.

If only Linux natively supported DirectX... You will probably say: "Man, Linux has Wine and Proton. There's nothing to worry about." Unfortunately, anti-cheats don't work on Linux since almost no one is using it, except data centers, developers and advanced users. Also those programs need a deep kernel integration to monitor the system and this is against Linux's "freedom" policy. They can also make your OS bricked if they want, so someone has to write a suitable driver for every anti-cheat system to ensure system's integrity. Also DX is a proprietary API, which means you will have to pay for its native support to Microsoft. Proton and Wine solve this problem by converting DX to Vulkan and OpenGL. But there's a problem too. Some PCs either don't support Vulkan or have its predecessor - AMD's Mantle, which was born dead. I tried to use Fedora. It's good and smooth, but when it comes to games, I have to boot into Windows to play them properly. For example, World of Tanks is marked "gold" on ProtonDB, but this game struggles to launch. Maybe I have to do something in WineTricks, but the fact is a fact. I can't even install AMD's drivers, because there are conflicting dependencies. And my Realtek speakers are shown as "analog output". No Dolby surround, LOL. Even my printer goes nuts when it tries to scan as PDF, even though CUPS, required app and drivers were installed. We must wait a year or two to fully abandon Windows 10. One day, someone will eventually hack our 🍑es, like it was with Windows XP. All you would need to do is just to stay connected for 20 minutes. For now, we are forced to stay on a sinking boat, hoping that someone will save us.

@@_FIRSTGAMER_ Understood. I've never played games, so haven't had those problems, and don't have a printer. I need Windows for one application (to communicate with a GPS), but use Win10 in a VM for that [i.7 11700k CPU and 32 GB of RAM].

@@JCO2002 If you don't play games, why do you have a "gaming" CPU and such amount of RAM? Are you using professional software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Autodesk AutoCAD etc.) or working with 3D (Blender, Maya etc.)? Or you just need something powerful enough for virtualization?

@@_FIRSTGAMER_ I mostly need a fast desktop for QGIS (mapping software) and 4k video editing. It might be overkill, but I ordered two 16 GB Crucial RAM sticks for the two open slots last night, which will give me 64 GB of RAM total (the CPU supports 128).

I'll never update to windows 11 because how slow it is.

Buy a win10pro key from any provider online, upgrade home to Pro and continue to receive support and updates for a couple more years. It's only home support ending. MS has tried to end windows 10 for enterprise but the enterprise told them where to go.
