I’ve been working through some thoughts and feelings… and this came out of it. I’m not sure how relatable it will be to anyone else but it’s a reflection on my first six months as a fan (May 2020 - October 2020) and some life changing things that happened to me during that time - some wonderful, some challenging, and some especially painful. Because when you let yourself care deeply, you also open yourself up to being hurt.
But I spent too many years avoiding life before God brought this beautiful dancing man along my way and used Sergei’s life and his art to help me make a lot of much-needed changes. And while it seems that I’ll always have to choose between the two, I made this as a reminder to myself that if the choice is either to stop hurting or to stop caring… I don’t want to stop caring.
While only two or three other people in the world will know what all this video means to me, I know many times people bring their own meaning into these montages I make, so I am sharing in hopes that, if nothing else, a few other Polunin fans may enjoy watching him dance.
    * LOOKING FOR POLUNIN BALLET PERFORMANCES?
You're invited to visit this page on my channel where I have been working on organizing all the quality recordings of Sergei Polunin's performances I've found on RUclips. ruclips.net/user/IndiaInkplaylists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=2
Most of these playlists (over 30 so far!) compile near-complete or even full performances of ballets including Giselle performances with seven different ballerinas, Swan Lake with three different ballerinas, the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Spartacus, Mayerling, LaBayadere, Coppelia, and many more!
    * MORE POLUNIN MONTAGES: If you'd like to see more of my Sergei Polunin montages you can find them here: ruclips.net/p/PLVViYmp7YHMPehY1NLvbPar-u2f8jLenm

I am amazed. I watched Sergei dancing for the very time last june. Honestly, I was looking for Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake videos and youtube recommend me a video of Sergei dancing TMTC in a Theatre in London. I was fascinited. I watched at least 3 times in a row. I started reading the comments and there were several about the bad camera work. Someone commented something like "if you want to watch him doing it perfectly go to the original" and shared the link to Lachapelle's TMTC. That was the beginning of everything. Sergei made my last months memorable. I've learned so much about him but also about ballet, dancing, choregraphers. It has been a journey. It is weird we was doing this journey at the same time. I thought you have been following SP's career for years because your videos are so fantastic. Really sorry for the very lenght comment and for my bad grammar. English is not my native language (actually in this journey I've gotten better in English too)

    • @IndiaInk
      @IndiaInk  2 года назад +3

@@dsanchezbrett I love that London performance (clips of it are in this video) even if some people hated the camera work on it! You got to see his expressiveness up close.
I not only haven't been following Sergei for very long (although it's hard to believe it's already been almost 2 years for me), but I didn't even follow ballet at all before that. Although I would occasionally watch a solo if my sister shared a video with me. She shared Pam Simon's "27 Times Sergei Polunin Made Me Say Wow" and ... I said "WOW". haha. I immediately added a bunch of other Polunin videos to my RUclips playlist and within the month had all the DVDs available of his performances and was scouring the internet for whatever I could see. It is quite a journey! Glad to be taking it with you and many of Sergei's other fans.
No need to apologize for the length of the comment or your grammar - you're very easy to understand. And I love to chat about Sergei and can be very wordy myself! And thank you for the compliment about the videos. I've always loved video editing but hadn't done much editing work for about 10 years. But then Sergei's dancing inspired me to start again. It's very rewarding to have people I can share these videos with, and just maybe one of my videos might be someone's introduction to the wonderful dancing world of Polunin.

@@IndiaInk Sorry, I understood it was 6 months, my mistake. Anyway, your videos are great. I am very thankfull about them because your channel is one of the first I discovered looking for information about Sergei here. It sad because living in South America I have almost null chance to watch Sergei live... but I'll always have these.

Remarkable . . . that's the first and perhaps best word to describe how I felt about the video. Astounding, amazing, incredible, awe-inspiring, brilliant . . . all of those and their synonyms describe WHAT this man does, but the HOW and the WHY? One must be driven by something inside, something deep, something inextinguishable, something inexpressible, something that can only be observed, but can be expressed only through the silent medium of ballet. Thank you for posting this.

It was the first “recent” dance of his I saw when I first started watching him and saw comments about him losing his technique. All I’d seen were his older ballet clips so far. And it was 2020 lockdown time, so he hadn’t done much that year…. But I saw that video and was like, I don’t know much about ballet but that’s just gorgeous on so many levels. ✨

Interesting, India, I think the idea is to show the contrast between his onstage and offstage personality, although I’m sure you’re not aware that’s what you did😀. It really works!

Thank you. 🌹 There were a lot of choices made for my own reasons that won’t be at all obvious to anyone else. Which is why, at first I was concerned it wouldn’t flow well for other people. But I’m happy that what I hoped for happened- that people can see and make some of their own connections between the pieces and enjoy it. 🥰
You’re right, in guessing that showing that particular contrast wasn’t forefront in my mind when I started the project, although I did notice it in the editing process and thought it might help weave some of the pieces together for other people. And I do always like to show the different facets of Sergei’s personality whenever I can. 🙂

It’s always kind of funny/ interesting to me when people will point out (like you just did in your comment here) things I put in without really deliberating a lot and so by the time it’s done I had already forgotten about. 😄 (I be like, “Oh, right. Yeah. I did that. I forgot. Thanks for noticing.”😆)

@@IndiaInk next time, could you include some of his appreciation moments? You know, like the one where he kisses Grigorovich hand or his partner’s or the latest, where he carries Makatova onstage. Those nearly make me cry.

Love those!! 🥰 I will definitely keep them in mind for a future project.
I can only hold so many images in my memory and have hundreds of videos to choose clips from for each project, so it’s very easy to lose track of some of those golden moments mentally. Thank you for mentioning them. Feel free to mention any others in the future to help bump them closer to my awareness. 🙂
(And yeah… I’m talking about enough Polunin videos to fill about 2Terabytes of disc space. 😆 I need to make a point of reviewing my footage from time to time so I don’t forget a lot of good stuff. I really prefer not to reuse the same footage if I can help it, but I often forget what all I have…)

Watching again, drawn to this man . . . . Without the facial hair, he looks vulnerable, youthful, hopeful; the mustache and beard alter him . . . is their purpose to hide vulnerabilities?
