That guy was absolutely right. Koreans aren't the only Asians to do this either. For a Japanese girl, being kawaii (cute) is very much a part of their culture.
He wasn't just being a weirdo. He was telling the truth. It's not just a Korean thing. My wife is Chinese, and she covers her mouth when she laughs as well. I can't think of any American women who do that.
Along with what everyone else has said, it seems like something that younger Korean/Japanese women tend to do that gradually dissipates as they get older, which is likely due to gaining more confidence and autonomy in their lives. Korean/Japanese girls tend to have a few close friends that they may be really expressive with but they’re generally a lot more shy around others. One thing I noticed is when something embarrassing/cringey happens in public, they tend to turn toward their friends and laugh quietly. Contrast this with western women who also tend to turn toward their friends but openly laugh and make light of a situation.
In Korea emotional reactions are intentionally hidden, even with family. In America we're much more open and public with those expressions. It's a cultural difference.
My wife and daughter are from China and this is very much true for them. Of all her friends my daughter is the only one born in China and she covers her mouth to laugh, drink, or even talk if it not family or close friends. She has lived in the US since she was five and is now 14. Her friends tease her about it.

My comment is there's some truthful to what he's saying because people do behave different and different part of the world. And by the way, I do like your smile.Keep smiling baby
Its a FACT! Because there FEMININE!
I noticed it on both my tours between 1976 and 1980. My girlfriends did it even when it was just the two of us in private. After I got used to seeing it done I didn't pay it any attention. It was just part of learning the people and their customs.
I like like that you were like thinking about this and like, you posted to like find out if like, this was like, a real thing. Like awesome for like wanting to like know. Like.
He's just flirting on you
I think it has some truth to it . Koreans seems to do the shy, naive, innocent act but Americans are more bold outgoing and take the attitude of what you see is what you get.
I think. Asian women like yourself are by far the most gifted people on earth.
Beauty defined. I love you all.
According to psychology it's like 50-50
That guy was absolutely right. Koreans aren't the only Asians to do this either. For a Japanese girl, being kawaii (cute) is very much a part of their culture.
I think it's true. Never been to Korea but in the dramas, movies, variety shows, etc they all do it.
Definitely true...he's not being weird..it's actually the way that they do it that makes it obvious..not a bad thing
Most korean girls do that for sure, a lot of japanese too. I like your smile. I wish I could see it for real every day.
He wasn't just being a weirdo. He was telling the truth. It's not just a Korean thing. My wife is Chinese, and she covers her mouth when she laughs as well. I can't think of any American women who do that.
True. Mannerisms of Korea-raised versus outside of Korea raised is different.
SuA from Dreamcatcher must be 100% American because I've never seen her cover her mouth when laughing 😂
I absolutely love your hair colour
This is very real. I see it a lot from Koreans, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.
It’s true, and it’s not just Koreans, Japanese and Chinese girls do it too
That is a great style. Looks cute and sweet
It's very much a thing. Not EVERY Korean person does it, but a LOT do, whereas almost no Americans do it.
It absolutely is a thing, not just young Koreans, my wife does it too, as do all of her friends.
My wife and daughter are from China and this is very much true for them. Of all her friends my daughter is the only one born in China and she covers her mouth to laugh, drink, or even talk if it not family or close friends. She has lived in the US since she was five and is now 14. Her friends tease her about it.
It is definitely a thing! Although, it is common amongst most Asians, even in Japan and China.
Show us that lovely smile😊
Of course it's true. Same in Japan. It's just a small but very real cultural difference that's been true for decades, if not generations.
me thinking of JHOPE nd JIN 😂
