@@baneintherain If not then why piss off the playerbase? it says on the FAQ it was optional and features were marketing news about ps games so it was worth something to sony for that, why do ANY of these companies want to make you signup an account with them? tell me you dont know about marketing whilst telling me you know nothing about marketing, tell me this if a steam players account is linked to psn when a player plays that game is it then counted as athe psn account playing it also? until i get that data ill reserve judgement. they wouldnt require it if it didnt make them some benefit ill tell you that for free.
Are superchats not a guaranteed read anymore? I supercharged during the helldivers 2 story and it never got read on the show (even at the end). It’s kinda lame to spend money on something and then not have it other like that. If they’re not a guarantee for reading them, that should be made more clear.

I do not agree with Tim's RE take. So long as these games are amazing, there is no point in slowing down. One a year is more than fine if the quality holds up. We aren't getting any younger to be waiting multiple years for one entry to a franchise we love.

They're also fairly short games that can be beaten in a weekend. They're meant to be replayed but for a casual fan like myself who plays the story and then moves on they're awesome! I love getting one high quality game a year.
at least i hope this means they can add cross progression, would be nice to not start over if i ever get it on the ps5
Players on PlayStation have needed to create an Xbox account to play minecraft for years. I dont see the big deal with this at all

The issue is, it was optional at launch. Then changed to required after people have spent time and money and cannot refund.

It's not the account linking specifically. It's that they sold it without it to a bunch of people who will now not be able to play it when the account linking becomes enforced. And to people who don't like the idea of account linking who would not have bought the game if they'd known. It's the "fake out" causing the concern more than what they've actually done specifically.
I think the biggest point that a lot of people are missing about the Helldivers controversy is that it was originally seen as optional to connect to a PSN account, and now it’s being required. If they had of required it upfront, the people that live in a country where you can’t sign up for a PSN account could have immediately refunded on steam. Now, months later, people have invested tens to hundreds of hours in a game, and are being told they have to sign up for a PSN account or lose access. I hope they are able to revolve this with those people, because it seemed like quite a few countries (90 iirc.) Otherwise Arrowhead is going to owe thousands of refunds for a game people love.
Lot of people in this comment section missing this and are happy to just parrot “well it’s always been like this”. Happy to do whatever takes minimal effort from them and belittle anyone who raises concerns.
Sony won’t sweat the cost, it doesn’t affect Arrowhead.
Everyone has a screen popup on launch telling you to link your account. It was also on the Helldiver's 2 steam page saying it requires a PlayStation account. It was delayed due to bugs and server issues. The Helldiver's team and CEO are currently talking to Sony to fix this or roll it back. Or at least keep it optional. Please do not downvote the Helldiver's team. They are bound to Sony's contract and they are going to bat for us.
@@vajer Literally everyone can make an account. You don't need to live in the location to make a psn account in that location.
the helldivers issue isn't the linking the accounts, it's that you can't make accounts in a TON of countries the game was sold in. this discussion is gonna age horribly, do more research to why people are upset. glad Sony walked back this nonsense
It isnt a big deal to make a free PSN account. Takes 2 minutes and so many other companies require the same thing. Besides the fact it's been there in the ToS since day 1.
True but allowing people to buy and play a game in countries where PSN is not available just to block them out of the game few months later with treats of bans if account region and game region do not match is a pretty fucking bad thing on Sony's part
@@KingfishWatch instead of instantaneous outrage, we could wait to see what the measured response is from Sony about people playing in said regions . And if Sony makes the ridiculous decision to "lock people out" then there's a reason to be pissed. Until that happens, the sky isn't falling. @@baneintherain This announcement was their measured statement, no need to wait for a "response". It was signed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, they know their service is not available to parts of their playerbase, due to the country they live in.
There is no history of them banning accounts just for making an account in a different country, but it is against their ToS, which they don't seem to enforce as long as the make money off that accounts purchases or the data collected from the account.
But if you trouble their customer support for any issue with your account, they can just deny you any help on grounds of having false information on said account.
This is Sony telling people to violate their own ToS to continue playing a game, how does that make sense?
This game should have never been available on Steam stores in countries where PSN is not available or the PSN account link should never become mandatory. Make it opt-in for those people that want to use cross progression between PC and PS5, if such a feature is implemented down the line.

They sold it on steam without the need for psn knowing full well that when they introduce PSN entire countries would lose access. Sony knew it and did it anyway. With the game that the pc audience made successful in the first place. Just so they can inflate PSN user numbers.
It said from the very start of helldivers you’ll need an account. They couldn’t keep up with the amount and put it on hold. Now they can handle it. Stop complaining and learn to read people.
Fun fact: Devil May Cry (2001) was originally supposed to be RE4, but the concept wasn’t what Capcom was looking for, so the creator ended up making it as its own standalone title.

Looking at the responses from Arrowhead, it really seems like Sony blindsided them with this, too...which is bullshit. It's fine, they'll figure it out and a bunch of people will bitch and moan, but they'll do it because they have to. Anyone who claims they're gonna get a refund or boycott or stop playing because they need a free account that takes all of 30 seconds to sign up for are just straight up liars. As a wise Tam is partial to saying, Grow up.

It’s the future geez it’s not that big of a deal. If you play on Steam guess what you need one of their accounts well, if you play a PSN game online, they are saying we need to be able to track how many people use this service. They have to justify to investors how much money to put into it. They need to be able to predict themselves how much money to put into this, need to find Waze so that PSN can generate more revenue for them. This is all in line with that way of thinking period they’re trying to bring you into their digital infrastructure, even if this might be the infancy stage of what is to come.
As long as it's a free account and not one that needs any sort of spending, I don't see the problem, I understand it's annoying but oh well.

Helldivers has been sold in over 100 countries that can't have psn accounts. That was the problem. Yes, a lot of the outrage is fake rage for rages sake because the loudest voices aren't in those countries.

Halo absolutely does not require you to have an Xbox account linked. I’ve been playing halo for over a decade through Xbox and pc and never have I ever linked an Xbox account to my steam account. CoD and fortnight ask for you to make an account with the DEVELOPER’s website not PlayStation network or Xbox or steam. Those are platform networks this is absolutely different and I think you are the only one that doesn’t understand that. Sony has a scummy business model and this is exactly why. Uninstalled

This isn't business related though, and while Halo may not do it, MS does require Xbox accounts for some games even on PlayStation.

Fast forward 6 months to when playstation makes the announcement of how they have 'X Million people playing helldivers through the playstation network'....... Its marketing BS and forced adoption.... This was a great epsiode btw. Glad you guys nailed that the 'outrage' isnt the story, its playstation not getting out of their own way

The Helldivers 2 thing is a minor inconvenience being blown up to seem like a bigger issue. It radiates the L4D 2 “boycott”, in a week and pass the deadlines it’ll still be the biggest game. The biggest real problem is countries where PSN isn’t available, that’s an actual problem. Also people saying “hey Sony gets hacked” which yeah that’s 100% true, but so does Steam. I’ve had friends get multiple accounts get hacked and compromised, no where is truly safe. It’s sadly the world we live in. Our data is everywhere guys, yeah I don’t like it but at some points it’s just impossible to avoid.
It's a minor issue for most people, but a big issue for the people it's an issue for. No matter whether should feel safe/happy to have their data out there, if they don't want to it's there right to not want it out there. Just as they're perfectly justified to feel pissed that they were sold a product they would not have bought if they'd known what would be required post launch. To say nothing of the people who are in countries where PSN is unavailable.

If you think the PSN account linking is not a big deal, consider the fact that the PSN is only available in 69 countries. If you don't live in a supported country, the size of the hurdle they just placed in front of you is enormous, if not insurmountable.
Yeah, this is the only take on it that makes much sense to me. Hopefully, they can find a workaround for those countries. It would suck to buy a game and play it for several months then be de facto banned based on where you live.

Wild to me that people are complaining about this but not the monthly battle passes that helldivers is dropping with pay 2 win guns in it for 10 dollars despite the pass containing wayyy less content than other 10 dollar battle passes. But I guess it’s all made better by the fact that you can find 20 super credits an hour by playing the game.

@@karateffekt1106 if the people who bought the battle pass are having a much easier time with the game because they now have over powered gear, I personally consider that p2w but if you don’t like that term, pay for an advantage is also applicable.
Bottom line: Its crazy people are angry about this if they are not in one of the countries with no PSN.
If they are using Helldivers 2 to get more PSN accounts, then from now on we'll know their numbers are inflated and in some part fake. People being forced to sign up for an account they didn't need before and don't use in any way now isn't a boon to PlayStation. It makes them look disingenuous with their numbers.
