The true beauty of this performance is the slow section starting at 1:08. He is deliberately very slow, slower than many other performances here, and it creates a wonderful contrast to the frantic speedy waltz that precedes and follows it. His voicing of the melody is wonderful, he really uses the beautiful sound of the Steinway to make this section shine.
It is a shame that some random guys in the comments critise the playing from the maestro, in this performance, the touching and the voicing is beyond human level. You may not like his performace, but for me, this is my favourite performance of this Waltz, and probably among all Chopin works. If anyone criticise his playing, I think they doesnt know too much about piano nor music.
op 64 no 2 is one of the mental cinema pieces where most of us are prejudiced towards a certain interpretation. for me horowitz doesn't present a good match but that's a matter of taste; nonetheless his technique is relatively flawless as always
I was a concert pianist for the better part of a decade, before moving on to a more normal and sane life, so I imagine I know something about piano and music. I don't like this interpretation at all. His other recordings of this work are much better. Here, he disrespects the music.
@@monicacaramelo7085i saw somewhere that he had a handspan of 26cm which is very large, rach had one of 30cm, personally i have one of 25 and still find a couple tenths a bit annoying so its probable his hand was in that range, i can play a messy 12th with my handspan
Horowitz and Lang Lang. That’s what I need if everything blows up. They are the two most emotional pianists I found after listening many. Not meaning others aren’t good but these two are unique and beyond piano. They die for us while playing.
I love what he does at 0:35, very different from how others lets say Evgeny Kissin play it very evenly. Any one has an idea how is this thrill played to sound like this?
I think this is just played very fast, like, how it should be played (without taking time from the other notes, like if the thrill per se was a note itself). Some pianists do it longer because it sounds good or whatever, but this way sounds better imo.
Ahh yes, “NightlySalvation5692”, the beacon of enlightenment in the sea of RUclips critics. Who needs years of expertise, mastery and poetic voicings when you can have the profound silence of a spud contemplating its worthless tuberous existence?

there’s just something about elderly gentlemen who are able to play the piano. This performance is simply beautiful and perfect
it's Horowitz 🤣one of the greatest not any random elderly gentleman
Sensacional.

I grew up with classical music and don't like his interpretation either. Not that it wasn't good, it's just not for me.
1:07 Absolutely divine ✨️
Absolutely, utterly and completely enchanting.
The best pianist ever!
Juda ajoyib ijro etilgan
Horowitz's hands are so huge that he doesn't need to do the rotating wrist movement for the piu mosso part.
I think they are huge too, but once he said that he reached a tenth "very unconfortably"

Magnificent performance; completely dazzling!
I was lucky enough to see him when I was a little girl!
Bittersweet smile and grief in a same piece
IMO The best performance of this piece on all RUclips
King 👑 ❤🙏
Maravilhosa apresentação.!!!
Very confident performance 🥰🥰🥰❤️
The first part is so well played by him
everything is
fast. but still it is from the maestro
the d flat major part is so moving from Horowitz
No one plays the second section like him, the floritura so hushed...
The best

except Lang Lang sucks
This is the first piece by Chopin I learned and first post on my channel too :)
All these schmucks in here criticizing him have no idea what they are talking about
Inchiniamoci tutti davanti al Dio del pianoforte
¡¡ Excelente !!
fantastico el picado de la mano izquierda
Kissin performs this Walts like no one in the whole Universe!
Totally
He was amazing but rubenstein is by far the best
That's Horowitz not Chopin IMHO! :P

He does it a bit like a baroque mordant. Try to listen to Glenn Gould doing mordants in Beethoven or Bach.
Que belleza!!
the boss
Yes! You can tell what a pro sounds like from the unique aesthetic interpretation of the piece!

economy of motion
Amazing
The best !
I cannot hear what should be "best" about it. It's typically Horowitz but IMHO not Chopin at all! :P
2:58 It's artistic
Best🤔
😮
He plays phrases not notes
I think this is filmed in the White House, no?
White hairy cave
Yea
Kissin is better
Way too fast
You couldn't be more right bro, I agree
Too much staccato!!!!!!!
yeah maybe
Then don’t listen to him
He is ruining all the beauty.
what no
And you my friend are ruining the sanctity of this place by being here.
Trash worst master performance I’ve listed too tho
Tou duck
i bet he's better than u
I bet you’ve never laid your hands on a piano to play at his mastery ever
hmm no

Marvelous, bravo!
