I love seeing your planting method here Roy. I started at the beginning of your RUclips channel and am working my way to the present day. I learned this from watching Erin, The Impatient Gardner's channel after watching half of the videos I wasn't seeing how her projects turned out. So I enjoyed starting from the beginning and watching them all over again. That's how I found you. These RUclips channels are such a blessing to me, Roy and Erin. They give me so much joy and relaxation after a hard day. Thank you so much for all of the hard work! - Carol from Tennessee
Thanks for the great video! I’m a homeowner who has finally gotten brave enough to do some cold stratification on a much smaller basis. Any advice for a much smaller operation!
You should be okay - ten times sand to seed, make it moist, label it, put it in a baggy and then in the fridge for 8-10 weeks. The book The Prairie Propagation Handbook is invaluable and can be purchased at The Wehr Nature Center (friendsofwehr.org/)
So you stratify the seedlings in silica sand? Really liked your tips as I have been struggling to grow plants from seeds that I have stratified. Also your timeline which is more suited to my gardening zone. Just to clarify, you transplant from the trays to 2 1/2 inch pots? Really have had a lot of failure growing wildflowers from seed. I usually start them in baggies in January and this year put them in perlite but very few germinated. I waited for them to germinate in the bags so perhaps I need to put them in trays instead of waiting for the seeds to germinate in the bags. I am going to try your tried and true method this year!

That's wonderful... thanks for watching!
Love the tamping board! And topping with course vermiculite is a great tip.
You are a gift! I am so inspired by you! We have 80 acres of native prairie and I love to garden.
Wonderful... thank you!
Useful video, thanks.

Hi Maggie...yes we use 2.5" pots.
Do you use vermiculite on smaller seeds that are normally surface sown, as well, or just larger seeds?
I cover lightly with course vermiculite so light can still get thru. Thanks for watching!
