I have mixed thoughts on clear cutting at least here in the Pacific NW, So I leave that to thoes that know better.. now thinning that is different to me.. another good video Chris, Thank-you for taking us along..
Thanks Chris and Kenny for taking the class along on a field trip to see this timber sale and logging operation. It’s cool to see Kenny in his comfort zone interacting with the county forester and reminiscing. He’s brimming with knowledge.
As a deer, bird, and rabbit/hare hunter & beagler, really nothing warms my heart more than a fresh clear cut right next to a slightly older cut! That mosaic patchwork creates that many more edges for wildlife to thrive.....i say keep on cuttin' boys! GNI!!
Great Vid Chris and Ken! lots of people have no idea what's going on when they drive by a logging operation! they think it bad to clearcut or select cut when in fact it's great for the wood to regenerate! loved the vid and looking forward to the next!! GNI !!
Great video brings back lots of memories of working in the Bush I really miss running the equipment and the other fellows but I'll never go back to working for someone else again and I sure love watching someone scale logs I've done lots of that before running my sawmill
Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A fascinating insight into a world of commerce that I can't imagine exists here, where our national forests are planted with I believe sitca spruce or some such soft wood that is not indigenous to this part of the world.
Chris and Kenny, thanks for taking us to the Forest on that big tract to watch them clear cut for land for management. That is a lot of cords they are cutting! Great to see them scale logs. I've seen it a couple of times when they cleared out our woods on a timber growth for regen. Tomorrow are you back in the woods with Kenny or in your woodyard? I'll be back and so should you! Poke the buttons! :-)
I've hauled out of Norton's in Spooner. A couple of times. If I remember right it was rough cut boards and a load of ties for Bangor. And LP Hayward. They make OSB. There's a bunch of pallet mills around too. I'd bet they do half the saw logs in the state. The paper mills still get most of the wood but pallet lumber is a huge thing
Great video Chris it's good to show videos like this about properly managing our force and the good benefits that there is behind it. The tree hookers need to learn to learn to understand that we need to log our force to leave behind the strong and get rid of the weak trees and it is good for the wildlife also.
Great camera work Chris and good interview by Kenny. You guys could make a living at this. Lots of $ invested in all that forestry equipment and seems like there is a "used car salesman" involved in most every business.
Is something how people think leaving the woods alone is healthier for it when the exact opposite is true. Haphazardly cutting a woods is a bad idea, gotta have a plan. Even more importto havr a plan as far as what type of wildlife you want to attact if that's the goal! Wish I still had my 10 acres. The pines would be getting close to the first thinning. Either that or I'd cut them myself to sell as firewood.
ruclips.net/video/sRPP4Ilpxso/видео.html At the end of this video, he shows the neighbor's woods that has veen left alone for a decade or more, and it's all scraggly and shitty. The woods he's in, that he actively manages, is gorgeous! Wild woods, doing it the natural way, needs like a hundred years to get into a groove. We can't just leave woods alone and hope it does it fast, it'll be nasty.
Good morning Chris and Kenny!!😀😀 I always love to get into large jobs like that. But down here in central Wisconsin a large job is only about 500 cords. Occasionally we get one that size. Thanks for taking us out to the woods with you!!😀😀👍👍 Logger Al
Yeah i send in a 40 foot 5" log and get 10 board feet. + 10" to 12" trim. Cut it in to 2 16 foots one 10" and one 6" and get 50bf for the 10" and 10bf for the 6" LOL . Those mills are making $$$$ considering the scale is based on old 1/4" teeth and no longer full size lumber ie a 2x4 is 1.5"x3.5" Out west dugfir mills push as much as 300% more then what the scale book says. they use scribner scale out west.

Thanks so much Daniel, the pros know best.
Thanks Chris and Kenny for taking the class along on a field trip to see this timber sale and logging operation. It’s cool to see Kenny in his comfort zone interacting with the county forester and reminiscing. He’s brimming with knowledge.
Thanks so much Man!

Well said Russ, food and habitat for critters!
Great video on showing how forestry is important to our ways of life. Thanks for sharing. Have a Safe Day
Thanks David!
Great Vid Chris and Ken! lots of people have no idea what's going on when they drive by a logging operation! they think it bad to clearcut or select cut when in fact it's great for the wood to regenerate! loved the vid and looking forward to the next!! GNI !!
Very true, it all grows back and fast!
Chris thanx for sharing the grading process and how the operation works.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video … I really enjoy learning about how the forestry industry works. Thanks for sharing. Maintaining forests is essential.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
Great video brings back lots of memories of working in the Bush I really miss running the equipment and the other fellows but I'll never go back to working for someone else again and I sure love watching someone scale logs I've done lots of that before running my sawmill

Yes, tomorrow I will be back in the wood yard with the 572 and 592 saws cutting!
I've hauled out of Norton's in Spooner. A couple of times. If I remember right it was rough cut boards and a load of ties for Bangor.

Cool, yup wood is used for a lot of things for sure! Thanks for watching Andy!

yup! Thanks Dana!
I used to dry and grade exotics like Rosewood for the furniture timber trade and the saw millers were nothing like as bad as their buyers were.
Cool, thanks for watching TBone!
My grandson is going to love this one!
That is great, I made another one from this logging job showing just the machines working that will be on in about a week.
Did you ever find out why Bolts were not being cut? Thanks for another great video. The timber industry can use all the good press it can get!👍
I think it was because of what the buyer wanted.
What is Bolts? A type of tree?
Bolts are small size logs under 10 inches but still saw able usually sawn for pallet stock
Nice video. I also log around Shawano Wisconsin. Nice regrowth on this cutting block.
Cool, thanks for watching!
At 4:10 did Kenny say Biewer’s? Biewer just built a brand new pine sawmill here in MS, just started up this month. GNI 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes, I think he did, some wood does get sent to one of there mills.
G’morning Chris. What an awesome video. Love the information !! Sweet to see ! GoodNightIrene
Glad you enjoyed it Corey!
Pretty cool to see an operation like that. I'm learning how to scale this summer to help when milling. And bidding sawmill jobs. GNI
And to avoid over paying for wood!!!

Great video - fascinating & educational at the same time.
Thanks so much Graham!
If I could just have those machines for a day🤔🤔🤔 It “wood” be incredible!🤣👍🏻👍🏻GNI
Yes, they are awesome!
Thanks for the tour !
Any time Bruce!
Thanks for the video. Does Buck use the Doyle scale ?
I do not know!
This was very informative! Thanks, Chris !
Glad you enjoyed it Chris!
Thanks for the Education. ???, are you going to be in Woodyard tomorrow?
The video is but I will not be there working for a couple days.
Pretty cool! My question is why the hell is wood so expensive again! a simple 2x4x8 is 9 bucks around here!
The main factor is fuel costs and with covid the mills where not producing so the supply was shut down for a while too!
One of my best friends use to cut timber for about 15-20 years then he needed a break from it then started hauling the timber instead.
Yup, change is good!
Very interesting thanks Chris👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very interesting Chris, nice job! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
I live in Wisconsin. Great video! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Who ended up with the Xtra hat ?
The hat competition has not begun yet!
Approximately...how many cords on that final log truck shot?
Most loads are usually between 12-14 cords or so. Maple and oak are usually less and ash and white pine more because of weight.
@@InTheWoodyard Thanks. I just received 15.5 cords of Maple. 🍁
I need one of those processors and a coupla those log haulers. I could get me a lifetime supply of dead Ash in no time!
Yup, they work well!
Great camera work Chris and good interview by Kenny. You guys could make a living at this. Lots of $ invested in all that forestry equipment and seems like there is a "used car salesman" involved in most every business.
Thanks for watching Larry!
Good work sawrus Trees-R-Us Oregon
Thanks Darrell!

It was!
Park falls?
Within 40 miles yup!

Imagine how nice a firewood yard would be with one of those grapples. Lol
Yup that would be great!
It's nice just got mine a month ago
A firewood operation near me has at least one as a yard truck. They've had one on a military chassis on facebook marketplace off and on for a while.
Good morning everyone
Hello Stanley!
Morning from VA
Morning to you too Fabio!

Yup, some of them do very well, especially when cutting private sales and the owner does not know what is being done!
Fun!
Yes!
I have a new chainsaw coming. Neotec 872. It's a clone saw.
Nice! Let us know how it cuts!
🤘
Thanks Jeff!
