- Alexei Yagudin won the gold XIX Winter Olympic Games in 2002, receiving first-place votes from EVERY judge throughout the competition. He received all 5.9s on the scoreboard for technical merit and 5,9s and four 6.0 scores for his presentation. No other man had ever earned more than one perfect mark at the Olympics.
Shortly after the Winter Olympics Yagudin won his fourth World title and received six perfect 6.0s in the short program and another two perfect 6.0s in the free skate, becoming the first skater to receive six perfect marks for the short program, including the first ever perfect mark for required elements.

Alexei was and still is untouchable in artistry, power and passion. He is also the skater that set the expectation from judges on what footwork should be. The best skater ever.

Words can't describe how I feel watching him! He is and always will be my favourite skater ever! So much heart, so much artistry, so much passion! Pure class! The best skater in the history of figure skating. His elegance, his strength, his power, his security, jump height, interpretation, transmitting energy but gentle movements, footwork, speed, the list of favorable adjectives is endless. The choreography is great. I always like more than Plushenko, he has something special, Plushenko and Yagudin are the best but for me Yagudin is better. I always love to see the fight that kept each other for the gold medal. His emotional reaction at the end while he was waiting for the scores of the judges is endearing, showing how nervous he was really but doesn't appear while he was skating. Thanks to Russia for giving us such good skaters.Thank you! I love it!
I agree Alexei is the best in the history of figure skating and although there were and are other great skaters, non of them trump Alexei's artistry, power and passion. I always preferred him over Plushenko.
Today skating void of a storyline instead crazy spins and jumps racking points. Alexi models masculinity of style and grace. In addition, his footwork and choreography sublime. Unfortunately, the Russians altered strategy in the art of sophistication executing traditional skating skill in the Olympics. The aesthetics lost and storylines negated by jumping the ice behaving as water lilies.
Still i prefer modern skaters, quads are just fan to watch
No male skater today can touch him. He is the best ever. I watch him over and over. The grace and beauty of his jumps and his foot work are out of this world.

The footwork don effortlessly and with robust energy towards the end of the program....the beautiful jumps...the artistry of the program is why he deserved this win.
During a long time I had this footage in a videocassette and in the late late hours when I was too tired and about to fall asleep on my desk instead of completing my schoolwork for College I went to the livingroom and played this and renewed my strength and will and went back to my room and worked until dawn.
Magic energy that art can bring to you.
Oh yea! Sexy Alexei!!! I remember that performance well and I loved seeing it again. I remember his emotional finish and at the kiss and cry. What a beautiful skater he is. He was certainly one of my favs to watch. He always skated with such passion. And that footwork!!! WoW.

There is no comparison between Alexei and Plushenko. Alexei was the epitome of Premier Russian Skaters. His presence on the ice was awesome. He held the audience in the palm of his hand. He was a true Champion's Champion. He was not arrogant/haughty. A true Gold Medal Olympic Champion for the Ages. Plushenko could learn a lot from Alexei. I'd pay to see Alexei perform today. He's awesome!

shoromeo No. Plushenko skated longer and has more medals to his credit, but he was never better than Alexei at his peak. Alexei was the most complete male skater ever imo, it was as if the ice gave birth to him.
shoromeo It is just my opinion. They are both highly talented in the true Classic Russian style; but, to me, Alexei was one with the ice and could captivate an audience.

I loved Alexei's short & long programs. The entire 2002 Olympics, held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, were spectacular as I got to attend the ice dance competition and witness the surprise award ceremony for the pairs skaters, where both the Russian and Canadian Pairs, Sale & Pelletier, were awarded the gold medal. We listened to to nat'l anthems and cheers & applause that knocked the roof off. There were so many other venues open to the public. Try to attend an Olympics if you can; the tix are free. You won't regret it.
I watched the gala evening. And I was amazed at the audience's incredible attitude for the Russian couple. And by the way, they slapped the creators of the shameful joke of history. I admire them, the audience in the SLC 2002 ice stadium.
