I did this a few years ago for my 8th grade field trip (I’m a senior rn Lol), and I ABSOLUTELY loved this exhibit, it’s not sum you get to experience it everyday and I hope to go back there soon with my boyfriend who’s not American Xd, I think he’d like it too ✨- we’re geeks for old stuff like this
I remember doing this back in the 70s when I was a little kid. The way I remember it, the demonstration with the gas detector was last. I don't remember seeing the last room the way it is here with the computers showing the images. They may have revamped some of the rooms.
I did this back in the 1980's as a kid many times. Still remember everything, it is crazy. They didn't have those computer screens at the end though from what I remember, or if they did it was old CRT monitors.
this was the first atraction in the msi. so it was basically: "hey you! come check our museum!" after the tour... get out we dont have another atraction.
@@benhaushalter5067 It was built using real mine bits but it is fake. The stairs at the start take you up to the top and the elevator takes you down to ground level and inside.
A real mine doesn't have any lights at all. This mine is adapted to be safer than the real mine that it replicates, so they don't injure or kill anyone going through it. They even tell you that an elevator in a real mine shaft doesn't have walls and a ceiling.
The Coal Mine is an extra ticketed experience at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Here is a link to tickets. www.msichicago.org/visit/tickets/

I went here in the summer of 2010, and I felt the same way as a kid.

I remember I bailed on this as a kid from fear and ate candy in the waiting area

I went here 10 years ago and I don’t know why I just randomly thought of it and searched it up.

Is this an actual mine or build specifically for the museum?
Just the museum I’m pretty sure

On one of the first trips I took here I was selected to yell “fire in the hole” during the tour
“It’s a credit” 😂😂😂
