If your paper is getting hung up on your discs, try running a dryer sheet over the surface of the discs. It makes turning the page smoother.

Hi Julie, I am a homeschool mom and after not using purchased EC's, I purchased the HP Teacher Planner and fell in love. I loved that I could punch any extra inserts, lists, papers and put them directly into the planner. I had scope & sequences, notes from list pad, etc. I've never enjoyed ringbound and with OCD i need to be able to change things, pull things out and replace when n eeded. I had purchased some adorable teacher printables on etsy and was able to work them into the HP TP and remove other things I didn't need. Its such a WIN-WIN! I remember years ago when the arc system came out and I loved it then but left it for ringbound and tn and spirals as the trends came. Now my go to is Stalogy a6, b6 and disc system. Thanks for sharing this. i think a lot of people need to feel its okay to not be with the trend and find what works best for them and your video shows that. The best thing is you can make your planner any size you want using this system and easily change disc size to allow for growth! Thanks forthe idea of moving old months to a different planner to 'store' them! Hugs! jen

I’m in the UK and discovered the disc system by accident through links in videos about other products. I currently have a happy planner mini planner but I’m not a fan of the complicated designs, I like simplicity. Then found the Cloth and Paper inserts. I’ve got a lot of items already so for me it’s just purchasing the inserts and some monthly dividers, which keeps the costs down (especially shipping wise). Thank you for this video as I found this very helpful.

I just started giving the disc bound a try a few months ago and it's slowly becoming my go to and catch all. The punch definitely makes a difference. I buy inserts and have printed my bbp workbook and put it on my discs. The versatility is what does it for me.

Currently using junior size 8 discs, but next year I’ll be a size down to 7 discs, which is like a B6 or HP mini size. Love the disc system and being able to customize the exact pages I want in any given month. I only use the punch from Levenger (because yes the punch truly does matter) and Levenger discs. I love all the colors they have available. I swap my covers all the time to fit my mood. So many cute covers available on Etsy. PTPAPER has wonderful inserts with a wide variety of layouts that can come dated or undated and she also offers printables. This was a good video for those starting out with discs. Junior is a good size to start with and you can always go up to a letter size with 11 discs or down as small as a micro with 4 discs. It’s fun to play around with all they options and I’d never go back to coil again. Thanks Julie

Then happy planner came along and I got caught up in that which is fun, but I need flexibility on a more compact scale and back to Half letter discs. The arc punch is amazing! I'm testing discs 2nd half of 2020, being work from home. 1.5 in discs works for me. I have two half-letter books - one for project/mtg data, one for daily/weekly planning. I'm in the market now for a easy on/off light divider so when I fold it back, I can use that divider as a "back cover" and keep the pages clean.

Follow-up 2022. I'm still in 1.5 inch discs for the year's daily/weekly planning. these days, project/mtg notes are mostly digital, so i downgraded that book to 1 inch discs with lined & dot grid pages for brain dumps/reminder notes about projects when i'm away from the computer. the light divider i ended up making myself with my favorite scenes and lamination.

Lately I’ve started making my own, steering away from the bright and bold colors. But I do love some stickers and decorative planning! I love the longer stem of the Happy planner punch though. I bought Tul paper inserts from Office Depot/Max and learned that the mushroom of the punch is different from company to company. 😑 And the discs matter also. I have some clear plastic discs from Martha Stewart that I love but the plastic HP discs don’t do it for me. Not to mention they have to be the right size. Otherwise it gets bulky. Thank you! Excitedly in process of switching from rings to discs (before that Traveler's Notebook...and I incorporate bullet journaling). I'm so happy to find so much online content helping me troubleshoot and find tips!
In a detailed comparison video by At Home with Quita I did see the biggest Levenger Circa punch is even better in my opinion than the ARC. And both definitely better than the Happy Planner one (unless someone wants to only ever use Happy Planner stuff as their "mushrooms" have a longer stem than ARC and Levenger). I'm wondering if the cheapest Levenger punch (cheapest of their 3) is worth it to just get me started on a budget even though it only does a page at a time. I saw a little single punch (with helpful little ruler guide) on AliExpress got some good reviews but very long shipping time.
Or maybe I'll just get dotted pre-punched pages on Etsy to get started without a puncher (I like completely making all my own layouts). Am DIYing covers and dividers out of cardstock, normal hole punch, scissors (can imitate mushrooms close enough that way). Dollar Tree cutting mats can make covers too! Plastic discs are like $3 a set at say Staples, nice! Can upgrade to metal ones later.

I’m in classic hp size, if they’re too small I think I’ll just have my most used inserts on them and inserts that can stay at home on the bigger discs. My 2021 inserts came last week and having to wait to use them is a test, using the undated dailies to fill in the between time.

I'm trying to decide if I want to go back to discs (which I used for years), or another A5 ring planner for personal stuff. Strangely enough, I prefer undated dailies for work, as I don't need to have details of everyday. So I just use the daily when I need it. I tried personal rings for about 6 months, but realized it was too small for my fading eyesight.

Hi Julie! Great video! Very helpful and informative! I’m trying the disc system because of your videos and I’m loving the set up. I have the top tab dividers and the CEO tab dividers (both from C&P) and every since I put the CEO dividers in I find everything harder to turn on the discs. I’m using aluminum 1inch from Stapes. I don’t think it’s too chunky either. The dividers just don’t turn easily for me and when I took them out it was much better. Do you find the same thing happens with yours? If so, have you done anything to make it better? I’m bummed because I want to use the CEO dividers too!!!

I've been using the disc system for a couple of years. I agree with everything you mentioned. I actually don't like using a cover because I like to keep it light weight and folding a planner back on itself is a big thing for me, LOL!!. Also, getting digital downloads first to try the layouts is helpful because inserts are not cheap! yikes!

I'm the same way; I prefer using the notebook itself with just poly covers, it's lighter weight that way. I use a combo planner band/pen holder to keep it closed.

The levenger punch is hands down the best I’ve tried. I returned and re-sold all the others i had and ended up investing in the levenger punch.
    I’ve tried:
Happy planner (both small and big)
    Tul punch
    Arc punch
    We R memory keepers
    Levenger (all three)

I moved to the disc system after realizing I needed and would make constant use of the flexibility to add/remove as needed. I was in a coil system. Right now I cannot imagine moving out of my disc system. I'm using Happy Planner because it was very affordable to do a test drive and after my test drive, I never left it. Another plus, I like something that can fold back on itself. I do use the 1.5" discs but I have added my budget, mental wellness, physical wellness sections to it so works well with the large discs.

I did use Happy Planner for a few years. I liked the functionality of it, just not the aesthetics to be honest. The HP cutesy look wore thin after a couple of years of it. I have Plum Paper now and ordered a Simplified Planner for '21. I am hoping that is where I find my final planner peace but we'll see.

Half letter discbound is my absolute favorite system.

  • @beccaplans
    @beccaplans 4 года назад +2

I made my own letter size discbound planner just using the HP discs from Michael's and I mix it up with HP inserts and my own pages that I've added with a 1-hole punch and I just cut slits in them to add the pages in. Once I'm able to get my hands on an Arc punch, that'll be the plan for 2021.

  • @calisongbird
    @calisongbird 3 года назад +1

Just curious- Instead of spending more money on dated inserts, why didn’t you just write in the dates on the ones you had?
Also, it sounds like you upsized to the 1 1/2” discs too early - meaning you didn’t have enough planner contents to warrant sizing up. That’s why they were unstable. This is why discs are offered in a variety of diameters. It is really important to stick with the diameter that fits the amount of pages you have. If you go too big without having enough pages, they’ll wobble. On the flip side, if your discs are too small for the amount of pages, the pages will tend to pop off the discs when folding the notebook back, or when turning the pages.
Another great source for beautiful, high quality discbound notebooks, punches, and accessories is Levenger.com. Their Circa system is compatible with Arc, Martha Stewart, and most other disc systems (maybe not Happy Planner; I think their system is proprietary).

I purchased more inserts because I wanted to :) Also I had more than enough inserts for the upsize in discs:) I am very familiar with Levenger. I have purchased from them several times. thank you.

Thank you, Julie! This was super informative and I always appreciate your honesty. I started some disc bound notebooks (dot grid) as a creative outlet and am having a lot of fun playing around with different size discs, covers, paper etc.
I can definitely see how it gets super expensive and your advice on not running out to buy everything in the beginning is very true. I found the staples metal discs on clearance for $5 and picked up like 3-4 different packs just because of the price.
Look forward to seeing how this system evolves for you!

While the arc punch does work beautifully, the more shallow stem doesn’t stay on the discs as securely especially as your book gets thicker.

I started with Happy Planner and then switched because everything was just too colorful for me lol Now I'm thinking about going to discs again for some of my stuff for 2021 but deciding on what that will look like. It definitely can get pricy. But with the punch, you can do your own inserts and vellum yourself which definitely helps.

I love a disc bound system! Current system is A5 with a Tul leather front and back. I love the slim profile of not being in an insertable cover also, but the clear covers weren't for me. Levenger discs and punch are my tools of choice. I started with an Arc punch and liked it, but the Levenger makes my favorite mushrooms. In 2020 I used Glam Planner foiled inserts, but I miss the sidebar whole lot (main reason I have hopped between A5 and EC in the past). In my current setup, I punch a bookmark insert every week to function as a sidebar.
What I can't overcome is the half sized weekend days simply aren't enough space for me. I am trying A5 wide for 2021.

I am getting into this system now. I have been using the disk bound system to keep track of my projects. I have decided to continue that and bring all my notes from all my notebooks into one disk bound book. That is the main selling feature of this system….and that it lies flat. I’m getting ready to let my Filofax, Franklin Covey and any other systems like that go. Thank you for the video….it inspired me to continue in my pursuit of this system.

The Happy Planner punch is good when you are using Happy Planner disc and products. The Arc punch is good when you are using Arc disc. When you mix and match products they don't lay evenly in the notebook.
