“Lyrically, "Take Me to Church" is a metaphor, with the protagonist comparing his lover to religion. The song grew out of Hozier's frustration with the Catholic Church which, as somebody raised in the Protestant Quaker faith, he saw as dominating the social and political outlook of the Irish state. "Growing up, I always saw the hypocrisy of the Catholic church", Hozier said in an interview with Rolling Stone. "The history speaks for itself and I grew incredibly frustrated and angry. I essentially just put that into my words." “The song is about asserting yourself and reclaiming your humanity through an act of love.””
This song actually compliments Lucifer’s character perfectly: he too has came to resent the church (well in his case, his dad and life) and he sees hell as not home and heaven as hell, but he does find his sanity, heaven and strength to forgive himself in Chloe and his love for her, and that love to him is what The Church was supposed to be, but ever was.

Lucifer and many other series have great ost bcs people link the songs to the series, especially certain events. Music is part of the world building. Using a popular song like this which was already used in plenty other series would not be that great.

This is one of the best Lucifer collage videos ever - the defiance, the anguish, the love, the longing, and all this set to Hozier's musical perfection. Beautiful.
Lucifer is an amazingly well-written character player by an excellent actor! After the first episode I found myself hooked to the show, being the fact that crime and mystery are among my favorite genres.
The more I got into the show, the more I found myself relating to Lucifer on a very personal level. He’s very damaged, but he hides it behind an arrogant and flamboyant attitude, but once you get to know him you find that he is much more than that. And for this, Lucifer Morningstar will forever be one of my favorite cinematic characters.
Well said Hannah! He is such a fascinating character. I knew this show was something special by episode 4 when Chloe sees the scars on his back. I could never imagine another actor playing Lucifer.
@@knightvision1228 Same, I seriously cannot see Lucifer being played as anyone other than Tom. I loved that scene, Tom conveyed so much seemingly real emotion, and still continues to do that with his work.

i honestly believe their casting met the perfection level of LOTR. If anyone else had scored the roles Tom and the others wound up getting, it would've been an unmitigated disaster, and worthy of the cancellation Fox sprung on them after 3 seasons. Them getting picked up Netflix was a vote of confidence, both by fans and the streaming service, that is a testement to the amazing ability of this show to pick you up by the lapels and make the viewer its bitch til it decides it's done with them.
Tom's portrayal of Lucifer's Borderline Personality Disorder was spot on...I've got Bipolar Affectative Disorder, and the show actually inspired me to go talk to my own therapist and doctors to make sure I hadn't been misdiagnosed.

I discovered this series a month back & i am BLOWN AWAY by the sheer brilliance of the show! And just as i was doing that, got to know, 5th is the final season. (?!!!!???!?!!!!!) It felt like a nasty kick to the gut.

1. D premise of the show is SOOOOOOO dynamic that an imaginative storyteller can take it absolutely anywhere s/he wishes to, without it EVER getting old/staid.
2. A STUNNINGLY talented ensemble cast with an INSANELY, skilled, charismatic lead!
3. A wonderfully loyal, fan base guaranteeing you SOLID viewership numbers. (i mean they brought back d goddamn show from d bowels of hell!)
4. Lacs of viewers like me, from India r discovering this GEM on ur platform & CANNOT GET enough!
So Dear NETFLIX, my Q 2 u is- WHY, O, WHY, IN YOUR INFINITE WISDOM R U BEING STINGY WITH JUST 2 SEASONS???!!!!!!!??????

The more I watch, the more I see. If Lucifer can love, if he can have real tears in his eyes, if he can be vulnerable enough, trusting enough, to love only one person (although I think he is capable of loving people), he cannot be wholly evil. I never thought he was pure evil, and remember when he was upset that others blamed him for their bad choices. This text of personal responsibility for one's choices is throughout the whole epic of LUCIFER. This was so beautiful and poignant, Kristin. Well done. Well done. Thank you.

I think that if Chloe and Lucifer finally get married in season 5 it will symbolize the "ultimate reconciliation" between Lucifer and his father. It would be his way of showing him that he understands that his father made all these choices only for his own good and not to manipulate him as he thought and that he knows he still loves him despite everything that may have happened. I like the fact that wedding has a totally different dimension for Lucifer, because for him it is a question of uniting already in front of God as Satan himself, but especially in front of his father, as a son. A marriage would mean an awareness and an evolution in his maturity for Lucifer, who would realize that he is the sole master of his destiny and that he doesn't need to prove it, and even if his actions are influenced by the outside.
