I've never commented before but have been watching you since your early RUclips days when I was a teenager 🥺 You're such a comfort channel for me and I love how candid and honest you are. Anyway, I'm now 36 weeks pregnant myself and, like you, I'm a naturally anxious person. I've always been terrified at the thought of labour and birth and whether or not I'll cope with the pain. To top it off, I now live in Spain and will be giving birth here with only my husband and friends as support, and I am still learning the language. Watching you go through labour and birth, and come out the other side has made me feel so much more confident in my ability to do the same. Thank you so much for being you and posting the content you do!
As a medical student who doesn’t have kids, the best advice I heard someone say is mums need to be told it’s BREAST feeding not nipple feeding. The baby’s mouth should be full of breast so when they suckle, they aren’t tearing your poor nipples.
I'm 23 and plan to try for my first kid in 4 years, but I'm already trying to prepare myself for that exciting chapter. Thank you SO MUCH for being honest about not having sparks when the baby popped out... you are validating the complex emotions of so many future mamas! Also, tell Zac we still love him even though he didn't pass the *push* test. He was just trying not to hurt his favorite girl. 🥰
And breath! In through your nose (4sec), out through your mouth (6sec), make a low moo sound, you don't want to be able to feel your breath forcing onto your hand when you exhale. You want it to feel like your fogging up a window. You can practice while pregnant, wont make you go into labor early. This also helps with constipation. You breath when you stretch when you workout, which helps your muscles go farther. Same thing with labor
I had a four pound baby and still have a few minor tears that had to be stitched up! You’re totally right that it really isn’t anything you can avoid or do anything about. I do fear sometimes having a hopefully full term baby next time since I tore with such a little guy, but love this message that the body will heal!
Awww 4 pounds!!🥹❤️ Yes, the body heals and honestly it’s probably good your body gave birth to a smaller baby first to prepare instead of just going for it with a bigger baby right off the bat 😂😅
Sometimes you don't have time to wait to push. The baby's heartbeat might drop. Listen to your doctors, not strangers online. Having a healthy living baby is far more important that tearing.@@heatherp4504
We have a picture of me right after my daughter was born, talk about deer in headlights. And she was my second. I was totally in shock for two reasons, 1) my first took 2.5 hours to push out my second took 20 minutes and 2) we were told she was a he, surprise! Had a surprise baby girl.
Hi Clancy, you look marvelous today. This message is for Zac. I’m sure you know but just a reminder from a fan what a lucky guy you are to have found the love your life who really had put her life together to be a great wife and Mom. You are both are a great couple and now parents.
I'm childfree, but still find these kinds of videos so interesting! My mom had a traumatic birth with me because doctors gave her something to increase her contractions which put me in distress and then my mom had to have an emergency c section. My mom felt like the nurses were rushing the birth process. I was cut off from oxygen for awhile, so I'm very lucky to be alive and the only thing I got from that is a poor short term memory.
Fantastic content. I'm currently 30 weeks and hearing your perspective was refreshing. Mirror on the ceiling? Would have never guessed. Lots of blood? 😮 News to me. Thanks for the intel, girlie! Best of luck as a new mama! ❤
Great video! I understand that post birth guilt. After 18 1/2 hours of labor I had a c section. I was so exhausted and then with surgical meds I barely even remembered his birth at all. But hey it all works out. We have the rest of there life for making magical moments. 😊❤ You are doing an amazing job Clancy. He got a great mama and daddy! ❤
This video has helped ease my nerves. Thanks for the authenticity. Induction coming soon for me in a few weeks. I’d be interested in seeing a video of what you packed in your hospital bag, what you actually used, and what you wished you would have packed. Thanks.
If you’ve ever watched Momma Dr Jones she’s talks about the whole not immediately hearing the heavens sing when you give birth and meet your baby. It was so validating. I cried but it wasn’t how I thought I should feel. No one ever talks about that
Amazing video Clancy! Thank you so much for shedding light to this. As a FTM as well you’re right with every single point. Not everything is flowers and rainbows like the media likes to portray and speaking about this really shows what the truth can also be. We actually had the same birth story lol so I could relate so much. Thank you for making this video! Definitely will be sharing this video to every mommy I know lol ❤
I'm so glad I asked to see the placenta after. It was so cool to me to see an organ that I grew and that kept my baby alive - And I'm usually grossed out by things like that!
I suffered a 2nd degree tear, but I didn’t even notice it, because on top of that I also suffered a 7 millimeter hematoma on one side and a 5 millimeter one on my other. I couldn’t sit up. I couldn’t use the bathroom. I passed out on the toilet from the pain. My doctor had to carry me in his arms back to the bed. They had to reinsert my catheter because I couldn’t walk. I spent 5 days in the hospital.
They say you forget the pain of birth. And while that may be true for most. My experience left me traumatized and I will never be getting pregnant again.
As always thank you for being you! I watched the vlog because I support you and your life journey! At the start of the vlog I was thinking to myself I wonder how Carly was feeling about her pregnancy and what she might expect. I think that it would be a great vlog with you and her doing banter back and forth. Also, maybe seeing what questions she has for you as her best friend!! Not as the pregnancy expert but friends sharing. I understand that she might not want to due to those who feel like they can judge. But if you do decide to go through with this NO ONE should because you both are two strong beautiful women who have each other's back! Congratulations Carly and family!!! Clancy please keep being you and Kathy it's been good seeing more of you and looking forward to seeing you being you too!!!
When my daughter was born, there was a risk that she’d swallowed meconium so they swooped her right away. I was in so much shock about what my body had just went through, didn’t have a baby to hold, and couldn’t even comprehend what they were doing with her. They were just shouting all these numbers across the room. For some reason, the only thing running through my mind was when they told us in the birthing class to look at our placenta. So I asked to see it. I feel so much guilt that I wasn’t freaking out if my baby was okay or not and that the doctor probably thought I was a horrible mother for not asking about my baby. Thank you for talking about the shock and normalizing it!
@ I don’t know lol It was gross, but it was kind of cool to see. Just wish it wasn’t the first thing that ran through my brain in the shock after my labor
That placenta caused a wound in the uterus after detachment. If that wound was on the outside of your body, and able to be seen by you and others. People would be encouraging you to rest and heal!
@JustForTheRecord387 Oh I remember now, I was told to look at mine or remind the doctor to do so, as it was kinda folded in half, to check if it came out intact, it's very dangerous to have any left inside. A friend had this and had an emergency situation. So yeah, we should be equally looking out for baby and for ourselves!
Growth ultrasounds are very inaccurate and yes i tore twice with my 6lb baby. I couldn’t look at him for a good minute or so after I delivered him so, not smiling is no big deal. You can’t help how you’re going to react to any situation. Good job mumma.
I can totally relate to your experience right after giving birth. After my c-section, I was in pain, out of it and freezing cold. It was hard to have a special moment. However, I had my moment later with my baby after I was back in the room and got some pain meds. ❤
My last birth was very traumatic & I'm 29 weeks now & so scared. I'm really trying to do things completely differently this time. I had an induction last time & that's what caused most of the trauma & complications, so my first step is to steer clear of Pitocin this time. And I have other things in my mind I'm determined to do differently, but I'm still so terrified.
I want to send encouragement 🩵🤍 I had a similar experience with traumatic first birth (medically necessary induction at 40 weeks, several complications.) Going into my second birth I was so scared... crying, freaking out on the inside. It went well though. Went into labor naturally in the 40th week. It was quick and while the experience wasn't perfect (I had covid and had some short-term complications from the epidural postpartum)... it was not traumatic like the first!!! There is hope for a redemptive birth ❤.
Omg I’m so sorry you went through that - I cannot imagine! But I’m sure it’s just made you that much stronger/ready to deal with the challenges of motherhood!
the same thing happened to me with the epidural but during my c-section. It was a nightmare. I found out later, that they can adjust your body or bed and it will then take over the spots that werent being effected by the epidural. I dont know for sure if that's how it works, but I think there is def something they can do to fix it. This time around I am having a doula so I have someone to help advocate for me, but I also have a birth plan and it includes things outside of what I want, not just my perfect idea of how birth can go. It includes if i have to have another c section etc.
I think I remember having a very similar experience!! Thank you for sharing this. I seriously thought they removed my brain after my unplanned c section😳🤷♀️😢 I look back and realize I was a complete wreck but oh, that sweet baby boy……I’d do it again in a second!! That sweet boy will be 26 years old next week!!!😂😂❤❤ Suffice to say…..yep, I get you girl🤩🤩 You are my little sister hero❤❤❤❤ Keep trusting your instincts and soak up every day as you and Decker learn together💙💙
The natural urge to push comes when the baby is at the right station?? My Ob said if you start pushing at 10 cm no matter what it can take a long time, but when your body brings the baby down to where it should be for pushing, it usually happens pretty quickly. I pushed for a few hours with my first because I had an epidural, but with my second I didn’t get one and was a little more vocal about what I wanted to do including pushing and he came a lot faster even tho he was bigger than my first.
Love this! My kids are 8 and 5. My first I tore me like you, my second she was so early and was 2 lbs and slid out like a slip and slide. After I tore with my first that first bowel movement was awful. Anyone watching this taking some tucks pad and holding them on the incision with a tiny bit pressure helps so so much! Also Frieda mom - the entire line stock up on and ask for extra mesh pants, lidocaine spray and tucks pads GET EXTRA BEFORE LEAVING THE HOSPITAL! Also everything in your room, baby/post partum related TAKE WITH YOU! I would ask for more diapers/wipes/formula etc so I would have all decent amount to take home. You don’t want to have to worry about running out of everything that first week or two!
Your terrifying me - both my kids came out without pushing - on my third - didn’t work out … about to give birth soon - this third time I’m in the worst shape I’ve ever been pregnant - and if I had to push not sure I could …
I always warn 1st timers to bring a large cheap pair of flip-flop shoes, or something like that. It is very common for your feet to swell big after birth, especially if you have a long labor with an IV in. Your feet can swell up HUGE and the swelling can last two weeks. With your feet in that condition, there is no way to get your shoes on to leave the hospital. Our first baby, my husband had to run to a store to grab some so I could be discharged, and having 6 babies, I have needed them every time. I now live near the hospital and had two friends think they wouldn't need them, then call and ask me if I could grab some and bring them to them lol. Best to just grab a cheap pair you can slide jumbo feet into if needed, just to get home.
As someone who as vasovagal syncope (fainting) episodes triggered by blood, birth terrifies me! But, if I do have a child in the future, if there's a freaking mirror on the ceiling, it's coming down! 😅
FOOD PLAN - YESSSS!!! After having my first baby on Christmas Day, a neighbor brought a casserole and we had a huge batch of homemade Italian chicken soup from my father-in-law - live savers cause we had no food plan. It is essential!!!!
I’m just shy of 32 weeks with a 92nd percentile baby and I have a heart condition. We are currently talking about an induction or scheduled c-section, so I feel very seen by this video!
The first baby was a huge shock for me. I didn’t smile either. I was happy but I was also in shock & maybe a little traumatized lol 2nd & 3rd babies are also hard but you know what to expect to a degree & that calmed my nerves & I was able to enjoy it a little more! Also, every first time mom should over pack lol it’s like your right of passage 😂 I just had my 3rd & I brought my fan & drivers license. Not as fun lol
Had a birth plan and it was not followed at all in the end 😅 so funny how it can go not the way you planned at all! Was induced and had every intervention possible since I wasn’t progressing and pushed for 4 hours then they tried the vaccumm and it wasn’t working then had to do a emergency c section, then my son came out not breathing and had to stay in the nicu then I had preeclampsia right after. It was pretty traumatizing
I had two inductions - the first was 12 hours - I remember so much pain prior - but again … I think I pushed twice - second induction and - five hours with no Pitocin and i actually didn’t have to push - she just came out … lol ! Never heard of it before
I had heard about after-birth contractions but never experienced them with my first. I had my second baby 6 weeks ago, and wow. That was something I was not prepared for. It was the same intensity as contractions around 8cm. The worst part was they would last for minutessssss, there was no way of knowing when they would end. And while breastfeeding, they would come one after another. I guess it’s normal to not experience it with your first, and they say they get worse with every baby.
For the first month after my child was born i kept thinking "i could put her back and id be fine with it".. just took me a bit of knowing her to looooooooove her.. i did wonder if it was me or the fact that she wasnt on me right away.. turns iut we just needed time..
I had that happen with my first where i forgot just how bad it was (emergency c section after 37 hours) so much so when i had my second 5.5 years later, i was like ''oh yeah! nope we arent doing THIS again''.. love my babies but no way!
For anyone scared of the foley balloon, it’s not guaranteed to be uncomfortable 🙏🏼🙏🏼 mine only hurt during insertion and then didn’t even notice it! For both of my pregnancies (maybe it’s my body?) but I was so scared going into it!
I had a pretty traumatizing birth experience. My placenta ruptured and ended up going in for emergency C section at 27weeks 4 days. Still currently in the NICU. Baby is okay, but when they it’s a roller coaster in the NICU, they aren’t joking. Almost near the end, and just a few weeks away from being discharged. I don’t think anything can prepare you from giving birth early. Only advice I can give, and was also given take it one day at a time. You will have good days and days, and every babies journey is so different. ❤
I chose to be induced with my last bub (due to a previous fast labour and not wanting to be stuck at home trying to birth with a toddler climbing all over me 😂). It was honestly just like all my other labours / births after the initial breaking of my waters. In saying that, he was my fifth baby, so my body probably just knew what the go was!
Goodness it’s not that I care so much about having a vaginal birth, I just really hate the thought of a spinal and an operating room and my guts on the table lol
Would love to know if an episiotomy was ever part of the conversation for your birth?? I had to have one with my first baby and I think it was the key to not pushing for very long. I only pushed for 20 mins with that birth because of it.
@ The recovery is far more similar with severe tearing so it still isn’t fun for the first couple weeks, but I think it helped with pushing and getting baby out quickly. I’ve torn with all of my births (I’ve had 4 and preparing for my 5th), so I’m more or less used to it now. Congratulations on your baby boy.
Girllllll the EXACT thing happened with epidural for both my babies in the lower left pelvic region after a few hours!! The nurses said it was probably the positioning of baby causing so much discomfort as he was coming down and getting ready to come out😅😅😅
My sister didn’t have a birth plan because her husband had a friend and his wife had a fit when her birth plan had to change to c-section.my sister was told she would probably need a c-section and she actually wanted one so she was happy when it was decided
Oh my god I forgot about that whole thing with breastfeeding !! I’m going to pump again and breast feed - the cramping sucks but it heals - forgot !! Omg
Also it’s not the pain of the epidural that scares me, it’s all the risks that come with it that freak me out lol spinal headache, hitting the wrong spot, allergies, etc etc etc 🥹😂
One of my nurses had the same name as me, Alyssa, and I mentioned that my name was inspired by Alyssa Milano. She said, "That's what my dad told me, too! Does she make those Milano cookies??" 😂 She was about 10 years younger than me, so that was crazy. But she was an amazing nurse!
I disagree with birth plan. You need to be discussing what your preferences are in advance with your midwife or OB. As a VBAC mom my midwife originally was like when do you want your repeat c section? Nope nope, I started those conversations early so I knew what a VBAC could look like. I planned for both a VBAC and a CS in my plan, I got my VBAC but I knew that wasn't assured. And waiting to push is a game changer, I asked to wait till I felt urge when I was told I was 10cm. I felt the urge about 20 min later and it took 20 min of pushing. I loved the mirror and I never would've thought I did either, it was motivating, it was just really cool. And I was like a month or two in honestly before I really connected with my first. The emergency CS, the healing, he has a dairy allergy, CMPA, he never slept and was miserable for the first three months. It doesn't mean you don't love your baby, trauma or shock in labor and a tough newborn phase can make it hard to connect, but you most certainly will and it's not abnormal
I don't understand why they won't let you eat during birth. I'm in Europe and the midwife told me that I will be able to eat whatever I want during birth.
I wanna add one thing that I wish I woulda known. That you push for 10 seconds, 3 times in a row. I thought you just did one time of 10 seconds. That was super hard and tiring. Also how much I screamed/swore lol
My epidural wasn't working fully with my first, so I could feel the midwife stitching up my episiotomy. It was not a magical moment for me in the slightest. I was kind of in shock and just staring around at all the commotion.
God I love your honesty, you have a unique ability to be so genuine and really pinpoint things that I felt after having my son that I’ve never heard elsewhere. I feel so validated and seen! Wish I could have watched these before the birth of my son!

Pizza delivery right after delivery!! And champagne of course!❤
I suffered with hyperemesis gravidarum during my pregnancy I wish I’d known about that prior to pregnancy
Omg I’m so sorry you went through that - I cannot imagine! But I’m sure it’s just made you that much stronger/ready to deal with the challenges of motherhood!
Seriously, the l&I nurses are incredible!
the same thing happened to me with the epidural but during my c-section.
I felt you on the makeup lol 😅 I left the hospital like “why did I bring all this stuff?!”
It’s so crazy that I started watching Clancy back in 2019 and now she has her own little family 🥺
Clancy: I hope this video won’t scare you. Also Clancy: it was the worst possible pain, it was excruciating! 🤣
Hahaha my personality in a nutshell 😂
Love this! Thank you for sharing your experience and all the tips! Love you Clanc!
Happy Wednesday, Clancy ❤
Thank you so much for sharing. Your videos have meant so much to me. My due date is March 5 and your videos are just so comforting.❤❤
This video was so informative and empowering knowing that I may be going through this process in the next 5 years! Have a great day
Love you clancy!❤
Aww you’re so sweet!🥹
I love this!
Your terrifying me - both my kids came out without pushing - on my third - didn’t work out … about to give birth soon - this third time I’m in the worst shape I’ve ever been pregnant - and if I had to push not sure I could …
Clancy I love your videos
Getting up and walking, squatting, or bouncing on the ball while you’re contracting helps with pain like counter pressure.
Thanks for being so honest
Hi Clancy I'm a first time mom and I'm 13 weeks pregnant 🤰🏼 with my first baby 😊
I'm none of the above, but I'm still here because you're Clancy and my favorite youtuber.
Hahaha awww ily😂❤️
The first baby was a huge shock for me. I didn’t smile either. I was happy but I was also in shock & maybe a little traumatized lol 2nd & 3rd babies are also hard but you know what to expect to a degree & that calmed my nerves & I was able to enjoy it a little more! Also, every first time mom should over pack lol it’s like your right of passage 😂 I just had my 3rd & I brought my fan & drivers license. Not as fun lol
I am 25 weeks pregnant with my first child (a boy) Thank you for making this video. :)
Almost 29 weeks and so appreciate this video
Had a birth plan and it was not followed at all in the end 😅 so funny how it can go not the way you planned at all! Was induced and had every intervention possible since I wasn’t progressing and pushed for 4 hours then they tried the vaccumm and it wasn’t working then had to do a emergency c section, then my son came out not breathing and had to stay in the nicu then I had preeclampsia right after. It was pretty traumatizing
Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry you went through that 😭 birth is CRAZY but I’m glad it sounds like your son is okay now!
Omg! My epidural only numbed half my body , they had to adjust something and re do it and it finally worked!!
I'm watching this whilst having contractions! 😊
lol I also laughed at myself for brining makeup after my first baby. I learned my lesson for the second.
34 weeks here he’s measuring 96 percentile thank you ❤❤❤
I had two inductions - the first was 12 hours - I remember so much pain prior - but again … I think I pushed twice - second induction and - five hours with no Pitocin and i actually didn’t have to push - she just came out … lol !
I’ve never thought to watch a video like this! So excited! I had a baby 3 months ago so l’m wondering if we’ll have similar thoughts!
I only went into spontaneous labor with 1 of my 3. It was honestly really great, but the end result was a beautiful baby each time ❤
I chose to be induced with my last bub (due to a previous fast labour and not wanting to be stuck at home trying to birth with a toddler climbing all over me 😂). It was honestly just like all my other labours / births after the initial breaking of my waters. In saying that, he was my fifth baby, so my body probably just knew what the go was!
My aunt had to relearn how to walk after her epidural 😅 so scary !
Thank you for sharing ❤
Totally get u Clancy, I tried my hardest to push but it was just the hardest, they had to assist me. My Baby head was big almost 9.
If it isn’t the legendary Helga but without her guitar! 🎸looove u
Hahahaha iykyk😂😂
Did you try perineal massage prior to birth?
I had such a similar birth experience as you! 😅 it was a lot but obviously so worth it! 💕 Congrats!
Craziest experience ever haha but SO worth it!!
I think it would have been more of a last resort before c-section! But they never did bring it up!
About to give birth (via Planned C-Section) in 9 days and this helped so much. I’ve heard so many women forget about the pain
I pray all is well with you and baby ❤
Omg
But my tear with son !! It took several weeks - and still didn’t feel right for a year ! Didn’t tear with my daughter
My son was 6.14 and I did tear -
My daughter was 7.14 no tear
The placenta is disgusting - my husband doesn’t like cutting it haha -
Glad for another video!
Thank you for watching!
@ ofc! Can I ask you a question please?
Hi Clancy, happy Wednesday!
Happy hump day!! ❤️
I gave birth 3 weeks ago and this video is just so accurate 🤣
Also it’s not the pain of the epidural that scares me, it’s all the risks that come with it that freak me out lol spinal headache, hitting the wrong spot, allergies, etc etc etc 🥹😂
One of my nurses had the same name as me, Alyssa, and I mentioned that my name was inspired by Alyssa Milano. She said, "That's what my dad told me, too! Does she make those Milano cookies??" 😂 She was about 10 years younger than me, so that was crazy. But she was an amazing nurse!
I'm having a baby in March. Thank you so much for your realness!
Wow your hair is so long now ❤
I don't understand why they won't let you eat during birth.
