he's right, alot of the top guys in a way grow up together these days by playing high level youth travel ball, high school ball, college ball, etc. They may not be best friends but they are aware of each other from a young age, harder to have a beef with people you've played with and against for so many years especially if you're likely to end up on the same team in a few years like many do in the modern NBA.

I think the problem is correlating trash talk with rivalries. Everyone can talk trash in the league, you don't have to be rivals to do that. Real rivalries come from battling it out, tough defense, grinding wins against each other. Those have become far and few between. Especially when you have guys taking rest days when they're playing a "conference rival." We need guys looking forward to matchups, going hard, talking if needed and backing it up and proclaiming "we're the best" after they win those hard-fought battles!
