I had 13 years products of Line 6 , specificly HD POD 400- 500x and UX2. Two days ago I bought first time BOSS GX-100 , and it was great decision 👌 Simply manipulation , great sound !
@@SallamistaI have the Gx100 as well and it’s really hard to get a bad sound if you have even a tiny bit of knowledge in adjusting simple eq’s. I love the tones.
This is not the first time that I came across one of your comparisons...and as always happens, I got completely stolen by the beauty of your playing. Really, I'm always amazed by your great feeling and technics. In just 2 minutes (the duration of this instrumental intro) you make me wanna be a better guitar player! Really inspiring.
Your playing is always just so amazing but I'm SO IMPRESSED with your sound on RUclips. NO ONE captures true sound on here like you do. What an amazing video. TY!!!
I got the GX-100 a few days ago, and I'm liking it much more that the POD Go. And as for the "no snapshots" issue, you can totally achieve the same sort of thing with the GX because you can assign anything anywhere you want. For example, I created a preset where CTL1 switches between the two amps, as well as toggling delay and chorus. So there's two snapshots there--one dirty rhythm sound and one clean sound with delay and chorus. Then, on the same preset, FS4 turns on a comp, delay, the amp Solo function, and cranks the level a couple db for leads. So that's essentially a third snapshot. Then I've got just delay on FS3 and just phaser on FS2, and I assigned amp gain to the exp pedal, instead of volume. It's so freaking versatile.
Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, but for example, in your mentioned preset, if you want to switch from, let's say FS1 to FS3, does toggling FS3 automatically turn off FS1? In other words, is it possible to make this work in the exact way the snapshot mode on Line 6 works?
@@LithuanianGuitar Actually, that's an excellent question. Unfortunately, the answer is no (as far as I know). Each FS can be either toggle or momentary, but that's it. I haven't found this to be an impediment, but I can see how it could be for someone who's used to the snapshot layout.
I believe on the above you are only in stomp mode right? But i believe you can use memory mode like in the video so you can assign its footswitch like a snapshot like in the pod go? I’m planning to get GX100 over Pod Go because they have functionality on that terms…do i get it right?
@emusic4048 I think you are correct. I just got this pedalboard GX-100 and I am using it in Memory mode, which it allows me to set totally different rigs in the same bank, different foot switches.
One of things the Boss has that appeals to me (with my bad back) is the Bluetooth option so you can have an iPad on a stand, showing the same touchscreen interface and acting as a remote control interface, so one doesn’t have to bend over to tweak parameters.
Nice comparison! In the Boss stuff, the Control 1 and 2 switches can actually switch settings on pedals and turn stuff on and off. On the older stuff (GT-100) it allowed I think 8 that could be divided up between the Control switches. I used those to add gain, turn on delay and reshape EQ and level for a lead.
The amp channel switcher is the feature that attracts me to the Boss. I’ll always use a real amp where I can, so I see this as an effects pedalboard. I like the mastered sound of Boss effects so hopefully this will sort me out. Thanks for the video 👍
I am thinking about going to the Boss GX-100 for the same reason. Were you able to successfully incorporate this? I got an EVH Iconic and would like to keep Channel 2 and boost while dressing up the Clean channel with Chorus effects, etc.
@@thrash8315 hiya mate, no I bought the ME-90 and tried that. It was good but it wasn’t good enough for me to keep. The GX would be better no doubt, but I’m just not into effects enough to buy one. 0:52 love the warm tone. Smooth and full sounding. Which pedal was it? 1:43 turns to scratchy nastiness that I can’t stand in digital pedals. Was that the pod go?
With the boss gx100 seemless switching approach using banks for songs and patches/presets instead of snapshots, is kinda the old digital multifx approach before snapshots/scenes were a thing. Units like the boss gt10, Korg ax1000 - 3000g, Digitech and old zoom units. I get that your point is that it is seemless unlike the other units. I can't speak to the seemlessness of the old units as I sold mine but the approach is actually a really old approach to bank/patch(preset) design. People would use the HD500s like that too. Can't remember if you could assign more than one block per FS on that, since it's been a while since I've used mine (Edit) Just checked you can turn multiple blocks on/off with FS on the HD500 but not parameter changes hence using the bank per song/preset in lieu of snapshots approach. Looper spills over, can't remember if verb/delay trails do. You would have 4 patches per bank and use the banks for a single song with the 4 patches as different snapshots for song sections. These units also had a manual hold footswitch that then turned the patch into stomp mode so you could turn on/off individual effects but not parameters without bending down and editing with your hands. Most would program using the bank per song/4 patches(presets) to get the parameter changes as well as effects on/off assigned to the 4 footswitches eg Song1 Bank 1A - clean |bank1B - crunch/clean with delay | bank1C - heavy gain | bank1D - solo + delay. Song2 Bank 2 etc
Wait Bro, I think you are forgetting that boss has the ctl system next to the assignments and there you can change absolutely everything so you no longer only have 4 patches per bank 😁😁
Both are excellent for the money. I recently paired the HX Stomp with the GX-100. Really great for quick changes and stage functionality (GX) and terrific amp tones (HX)!
The Boss GX100 is about $200 more expensive in the States, but I think you're getting some good value for the added expense. If you like the Boss sound, it looks like a good purchase to me. I think the GX100 will be a good unit for many years to come, whereas you might start thinking about replacing the Pod Go in a 2 or 3 years.
As a bass player, things that I am waiting to hear the boss do include dual path dirty/clean, usable pitch effects, and synth stuff. Even if one has to “build” a synth using combinations of drive, octave, envelope, modulation, I want to see what it will do.
You play great, if I ever need a guitar solo on one of my tunes I'll look you up! I own the GT-1 and have had a few PODs, you really need to ignore what the amp and effect models are called and use your ears to get your tone. Sometimes it might be a full clean amp with a certain distortion pedal that get's you that Marshall tone you hear in your head.
Carry over is doable if you match the fx chains between patches, as in literally the same order of fx blocks, even if you're not using it, just turn that block off, that's how i got mine to work! :)
If you're going to continue to do demos of the gx-100 how about some clean tones. Like to know how it sounds when trying to do the clean warm Fender/Dumble/Two rock kind of tones. Not ambient but really just amp/cab/reverb maybe a touch of delay.
I still think that the Boss doesn’t have the Tail setting like the Helix where we create the scenes to have the delay tail running even when we change presets. With Gx 100 I can hear that the delay cuts off changing between presets.
Here comes the nerd rage! The Boss allows you to tweak the speaker cabs. You're using an IR and I guess it doesn't on that, but the built in cabs have plenty of tweakability Otherwise, very good and fair video. The L6's ability to custom name and color your stomps is a huge bonus. I hope Boss adds that in a firmware update
I’ve been having a bit of a look at this one after a good few months digging into the katana air which does the same preset spillover- it’s a bit of a selling point I reckon BOSS should be pushing a bit more with respect to line6 gear. Could be a very interesting idea for hybrid rigs running the pair connected via midi for a truly extensive signal chain. Another great point is this relatively accessible bit of kit can be easily edited on mobile devices wirelessly. Great ergonomics and a load of flexibility for sound checks or moving around at a gig wirelessly with one of Dom’s button gizmos.
What is missing from this video is GX-100’s Bluetooth module ($60) that enables wireless BTS app control on an iPad-much bigger and easier than the little touch screen!
John going back to all your videos on the GX100. Reason is, my HX Stomp failed, which really surprised me. It stopped having any output level. Its been a great work horse for me for close to 4 years. I'm trying to decide to whether I want to move up in a Line 6 HX product or perhaps the GX100 for a fully contained multi-effects. I'm now well versed in the Helix programming and learning a whole new system is daunting. But budget is a factor too.
People keep on saying "boss doesn't have snapshots" like line 6 is somehow better because of that. BUT boss has "assigns", which can be used in the exact same way as snapshots. And, as far as I understand, it woks in pedalboard mode - so you you can have, at the same time, some switches working as pedalboard and others in assigns (snapshot). Line 6 is either pedalboard or snapshot. In that regard, boss is better. And it has carryover for delays and reverb between presets.
The feel of the GX100 is phenomenal. Very low latency and the effects are great. However, the reverbs are mid. But you wouldn't really notice in the mix.
It's also a nice sound mfx altogether. I like the Boss multi's, I still like the GT100, even though it was superseded by an HXStomp, a switcher and 5 other pedals. I think I might dig it out and mess around with again. It
The main reason i'll go with Boss is it's a new unit, has a few years of "life" guaranteed, for firmware and the possibility to be eventually sold for a reasonable price.
The full size Boss Gt-1000 changes patches seameslly no matter the chain you have. They (the chains) can be very different, but they will change patches seameslly. Besides the CTL function works as a Snapshot. Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
Pod Go Sounds so much better to me sonically. I've got a pod go and it's awesome. Definitely Recommend it over the Boss. It's Helix Quality Tones so it's £1500 quality tones used, it's no drop in quality. I'd definitely go with the Pod Go Wireless Version. It's a brilliant bit of kit.
Eh… its all subjective at the end of the day. Me and my friend both got helix and now are stuck with a white elephant. All my sounds are lifeless (this is from both Helix native and HX stomp) We tried everything including purchasing patches from Jason Sadites, downloading free patches from Line 6 website, purchasing OwnHammer IRs, matching input impedance on the hardware corresponding to our pickups and finally getting external DI boxes… it just sounds dull and pick attack isn’t translating the dynamics as well. I tried a Boss GX-100 from another friend and tried my guitar (MIM Charvel with SD pickups) and I was sold. I have the GX-100 on order now. Great great sound through FRFR. Maybe Line 6 is exceptional for some people (maybe most) but I can’t justify the price tag of Helix when GX-100 does equally exceptional sound for half the price and has better dynamics control through AIRD amps. At the end of the day, sonic preference is neither right or wrong. It’s just preference. Most people prefer line 6 modelling but to me it sounds meh. STL tones, and Neural even ML Soundlab plugins sound better to me than Helix for both guitar and bass
@@adityabali1939 Great answer. I'm a begginer and I'm looking for an amp but right now I am not sure if should I go for a boss katana 50 Mark II, or go for a gx100 + couple of monitors. 🤔... I appreciate if you can help me here based in your experience. Thank you.
Hi, lovely playing :) On another note, could you recommend a solid state amp that would be compatible with the GX100, including for high gain tones, distortion, etc.
Hi John, now that you've lived with the GX100 for a while, what are your thoughts regarding tonal differences. Boss has made a big thing about its AIRD technology which combines amp & IR's and allegedly makes the GX100 sound and feel more like an amp through a cab. Whilst that's a convenient approach is that just marketing hype and is there any real difference as against Pod Go with a decent IR? I have a Pod Go currently so that above everything would be the key reason for me to buy a GX100. As you have both units I'd value your insights here (- oh, and like others have said you're a wonderful player! ) Thanks John
one thing that all line 6s have a defect from the first pod red bean xt x3 go helix etc is the sound of the hollow melody ... it always sounds muffled never clear as it should sound instead which on the Boss in general always sounds good even the old Boss models sound clear and empty like in a real amplifier. ditto Fractal has this flaw and that Headrush Eleven rack orange doesn't have because he too plays the empty me singing very clearly. ditto Kemper excellent . so after having had line 6 all the most important models, I understood this defect idem Fractal. in the studio, try to believe and then you can feel the defect of line 6 and Fractal under your fingers
One point to note, is that the boss is useless if you want to change tunings. The pitch shifter in the line 6 is great if you want to drop down a couple of steps, say if you have some tunes in E and some in D and you only want to bring one guitar. The boss simply cannot do this. I tried. That aside, the Boss is a very nice unit.
Uh. Yeah you can do that with the Boss. I have the GT-1000 and used the pitchshifter to do that. The GX-100 has a SRV preset already programmed in Eb using the pitchshifter because the SRV played in Eb. However, since I play in a cover band and have to play in multiple tunings and multiple presets for different songs, I ended having to get the Digitech Drop pedal that many other musicians in my area all started using also. You can't be on stage and trying to change the pitchshifter back and forth for three different presets like clean, rhythm or lead. I love my GT-1000 with a passion. Best money I ever spent in my life. I will say for the hobbiest the GX-100 is great but for a professional musician GT-1000 is a must if going with Boss.
Line 6 Pod Go support apparently does not support Windows, some buyers (including me) find some PCs recognise the Pod Go but refuse to allow updates or 3rd party downloads. It sucks.
Does someone got experience with those two effectboards as a bass player? Which one has got more usable sounds for bass? I like the stomp mode (manual mode) from the boss, where you can assign single effects to a switch. Does the POD Go also include this feature? ..and I need a good and easy to use compressor ..thanks for answers and the great demo video here 😊
However, I would also say that when you press the buttons the Boss is very quiet, the Pod Go seems to beat on it with a hammer. The boss as a construction is not discussed, it looks like a tank, the pod go is somewhat "toy"
Great comparison. I like the idea of an amp out for a stage tone, with a separate output for the front of house. (PodGo). Does the Boss unit offer that feature? If not, what amp modelers should I be looking at? Thanks
@@madiimad quite a monster indeed. In this version, you can add a power amp block that allows you to tweak the sag and bias like the HX stomp or GX100. The only downside right now is the lack of ability to use the assign matrix or snapshot mode. Hotone promised to come up with an update on that someday
I’m going with the boss because it just sound much better to me. I’ve just never liked anything line 6 effects they always sounds so lo-fi and lackluster to me…kudos to guys like you John who can get great sounds out of the line 6 stuff!
oh how i wish the pod go had more processing power. I have to use a stomp xl with an expression pedal, id rather use the stomp for other things, but right now its my mini helix , for when i dont need the floor. I know the boss cant do what i need it to do, Im very interested in the Valeton gp-200! get one john
Thanks for the great review!! I've always been a preset guy, so seamless switching is a must. That is what multi effects are for, right? Even the old Pod xt floor and all Boss gt's could do that. That is a pro feature for me.
Great playing! I ordered a gx-100 last week. I have an older Solid State Crate xt120r amp. Do you suggest I upgrade and pair the Boss with a Katana or a tube amp?
I currently have WAZA Air, had a GT-1 that I sold and bought a Pod Go for the more buttons/flexibility for gigging. The Pod is good, but I definitely hear the different in the Boss sounds and (to me) they sound much better. I also got used to Boss Tone Central and really like their software better. I'll admit, I steal a lot of settings from the Studio Rats channel. I see a GX100 in my future.
Hey man, not sure if you've still got a Quad Cortex, but if you do. It would be cool to hear your opinion on it post CorOS 1.3 update. Love the vids. ;)
what do you think is the best idea? 1. use boss pedals to record directly from USB or plug it into an audio interface ? 2. connect the pedal to amps and record it from amps? 3. connect the pedal to the amp and then connect it to interface for recording ?
The screen seems messy and unfriendly to my old gigging eyes. The spillovers are a real bonus but I’m not sure this unit offers much more than a thoughtfully set up Pod Go🤔. For me the Pod Go form factor is just about a perfect compromise between physical size and functionality (I use hacked presets which helps too). Thanks for your videos Steve
I have seen alot of people and playing styles but this thing you sis here is what i hope and apire to be... Not blues not metal not clean but this shii be it... Fr it juat blew my mind
@@johnnathancordy I also noticed a much darker tone coming from the GX100. On the Boutique amp I saw the treble was turned right down, presence was on zero, and bright switch was in the off position. I'd say a bit more A/B tweaking could get them to sound more similar, however I still really enjoyed the tone of the Boss. I also assume an EQ block sitting straight after the AMP block might help sculpt the tone given there's no IR high/low cut available. Awesome pragmatic and unbiased review !

Forget the amp models for a minute. For us guys who love our real amps, do they have trails on the delays? Do the Rotaries have ramping?
The feel of the GX100 is phenomenal. Very low latency and the effects are great. However, the reverbs are mid. But you wouldn't really notice in the mix.
I have a Boss GX-100 and I love it.
The seamless switching on the Boss sounds lovely.
Agreed
It's also a nice sound mfx altogether. I like the Boss multi's, I still like the GT100, even though it was superseded by an HXStomp, a switcher and 5 other pedals. I think I might dig it out and mess around with again. It
Solo por ese intro me suscribi jaja , muy buen trabajo!!! 👏👏
I love the intro. Any chance you have the whole song somewhere we can listen in full?
The main reason i'll go with Boss is it's a new unit, has a few years of "life" guaranteed, for firmware and the possibility to be eventually sold for a reasonable price.
Great playing. Never mind the gear.
If that is you playing wow great tone love how you play thanks
The full size Boss Gt-1000 changes patches seameslly no matter the chain you have. They (the chains) can be very different, but they will change patches seameslly. Besides the CTL function works as a Snapshot.
Cheers from Portugal 🤘🍺🇵🇹
The assign/ctrl yeh?
@@johnnathancordy yes, you can use those just like a Snapshot.
@@johnnathancordy i realize now i wrote a lot of mistakes in my coment cause i wrote in a hurry, i did correct now the sentences 🙂
Marvelous intro! Do you have the music sheet or Guitar Pro file of it??
Pod Go Sounds so much better to me sonically. I've got a pod go and it's awesome. Definitely Recommend it over the Boss. It's Helix Quality Tones so it's £1500 quality tones used, it's no drop in quality. I'd definitely go with the Pod Go Wireless Version. It's a brilliant bit of kit.
Eh… its all subjective at the end of the day. Me and my friend both got helix and now are stuck with a white elephant. All my sounds are lifeless (this is from both Helix native and HX stomp)
We tried everything including purchasing patches from Jason Sadites, downloading free patches from Line 6 website, purchasing OwnHammer IRs, matching input impedance on the hardware corresponding to our pickups and finally getting external DI boxes… it just sounds dull and pick attack isn’t translating the dynamics as well.
Thank you.
Go stereo frfr.. and learn from there cause you can then easily add aux in backingtracks
dont get me wrong, katana is awesome but with gx100 setup you get more
Great playing! Through my BOSE headphones, the GX100 sounds flatter. The algorithms in the POD Go are definitely superior
Flatter as in???
Have you ever considered reviewing a strandberg? Would love to see your thoughts and comparisons on them!
Hi, lovely playing :) On another note, could you recommend a solid state amp that would be compatible with the GX100, including for high gain tones, distortion, etc.
Thanks, friend! How’s about reviewing the Boss RC 600 six track looper?

I had the Pod Go, it was exciting for a while but it is very limited.
Gx100 = like
6 POD GO = COMMENTS
Probably a stupid question. On the podgo is the screen large enough to see what effects/snapshots are attached to each switch when standing up?
one thing that all line 6s have a defect from the first pod red bean xt x3 go helix etc is the sound of the hollow melody ... it always sounds muffled never clear as it should sound instead which on the Boss in general always sounds good even the old Boss models sound clear and empty like in a real amplifier. ditto Fractal has this flaw and that Headrush Eleven rack orange doesn't have because he too plays the empty me singing very clearly. ditto Kemper excellent . so after having had line 6 all the most important models, I understood this defect idem Fractal. in the studio, try to believe and then you can feel the defect of line 6 and Fractal under your fingers
I love ❤️ my Pod Go I had a Boss before but didn’t like the interface
Can you turn on/ off the efx on a fly on a specific present?
Yes
That intro was sexy as hell…you’re playing is freaking fabulous
Great comparison. I like the idea of an amp out for a stage tone, with a separate output for the front of house. (PodGo). Does the Boss unit offer that feature? If not, what amp modelers should I be looking at? Thanks
Answer: Hotone Ampero II
Would you recommend?
@@johnnathancordy Its a mosnter of a pedal... id wish you could do a review of it! cheers
Nice playing
Great comparison, and stunning playing on the intro jam! I may have asked this before, but does the Boss have a looper?
It does!
oh how i wish the pod go had more processing power. I have to use a stomp xl with an expression pedal, id rather use the stomp for other things, but right now its my mini helix , for when i dont need the floor. I know the boss cant do what i need it to do, Im very interested in the Valeton gp-200! get one john
Felicidades por el vídeo, para ti después de probar las dos pedaleras, cual es la mejor? Muchas gracias
Umm I'd hold off on either until it arrives, and see how you get on with it
Orange amps are great . I have one use a 35rt with a full band playing.
@@luissantiago7772 thanks for the insight. Orange amps definitely have amazing tone! I
I currently have WAZA Air, had a GT-1 that I sold and bought a Pod Go for the more buttons/flexibility for gigging. The Pod is good, but I definitely hear the different in the Boss sounds and (to me) they sound much better. I also got used to Boss Tone Central and really like their software better. I'll admit, I steal a lot of settings from the Studio Rats channel. I see a GX100 in my future.
Could you do nu-metal tones with the Boss GX-100?
Hey man, not sure if you've still got a Quad Cortex, but if you do. It would be cool to hear your opinion on it post CorOS 1.3 update. Love the vids. ;)
Of course, I’d pick
Zoom G3X (most def without “n”)!!
so who win ?
what do you think is the best idea? 1. use boss pedals to record directly from USB or plug it into an audio interface ? 2. connect the pedal to amps and record it from amps? 3. connect the pedal to the amp and then connect it to interface for recording ?
Hi, can we buy your personal IR?
The screen seems messy and unfriendly to my old gigging eyes. The spillovers are a real bonus but I’m not sure this unit offers much more than a thoughtfully set up Pod Go🤔. For me the Pod Go form factor is just about a perfect compromise between physical size and functionality (I use hacked presets which helps too).
Thanks for your videos
Steve
Agreed
not to mentioned the weight of PodGo is very light
😎Great info👌...
🎶✨️Solid influential mix of Eric Johnson, Lee Ritenour, & Satch🎶😎
Superb playing. I forgot the gt...!
I have seen alot of people and playing styles but this thing you sis here is what i hope and apire to be... Not blues not metal not clean but this shii be it... Fr it juat blew my mind
the looper will keep playing between presets that have the same looper on.
Think i'll go for the GX100
How are you running it in this video?
Nice vid. Tx.
Tip. Your camera stability and skills need an uplift ... 😅😅😅
Is it me? The boss sounds muffled to me?not as crisp/bright.
It's got much more low end in this case yep - I don't know if that might be a good thing based on my recent in ear gigs.....
Yea. It doesn't have the high definition like HX stomp and GT1000, probably due to the lower processing power of this unit
