    Just surfing along and learning about making axes. If you see comments on old videos yet, how did you go about making the punch to form the slot where the handle goes on an axe? I have been fitting some old axes and restoring, and it drives me crazy that none of them have the same fit, and that there are many different handles if you store buy. If you have a video up (didn’t see one) on how that punch was made or where to get one, I would appreciate it man. Keep up the good work!

    Maybe try designing or modifying your forge with kaowool and itc 100 refractory and possibly add another burner to reach forge welding tempuratures. Learning how to forge weld is a great way to expand your knowledge in blacksmithing. You can make tomahawks with a forge welded harden steel edge.

    I love the design👍👍 keep up the great work, you are absolutely killing it! I'm amazed at your productivity and ingenuity at your age. Could you do a video on your background such as how you were raised, how you got into making, who your biggest influences/inspirations/mentors have been? What are your future plans after graduation, etc. I wish more young people grabbed life by the reigns the way you have...bravo!

    I'm always happy when I see young people doing something productive and being successful! May I suggest that you get Randy McDaniel's book "Hydraulic Forging Press For The Blacksmith". It is about $45-50, but its filled with useful tips and ideas including on making dies, hand tooling, punches, etc. that you can use in the press.

    I think i would have done an edge quench just so you can keep the pole in the back hard

  • @yethuraj4873

    I have doubt, why did u fully quench the axe and made it fully temper.

    Awesome work man...I just finished construction on a tire hammer 6 months ago, and it saves my arm from unnecessary wear and tear...can I ask how much that hydrolic press cost to build? That is my next project. Keep up the good work.

  • @devincooper3060
    @devincooper3060 6 лет назад

    Ok now when people use a power hammer in blacksmithing that is just passable, come on man, using a press for 99% of the shaping that’s not blacksmithing at all

    • @PaulPinto
      @PaulPinto  6 лет назад +1

      Since this isn’t real blacksmithing and you must be a true blacksmith you should start your own RUclips channel so you can show everyone the right way to do it

    • @devincooper3060
      @devincooper3060 6 лет назад

      Paul Pinto I am by no means good enough to label myself of the title blacksmith maybe hobbyists blacksmith at most. But I have done much research on the subject from blacksmith forums to general websites to channels all over RUclips. And what i can say is that not a single other person I’ve seen has ever used a press like you use yours. Now I’m not trying to be a troll or nothing to you but you and I both know that what your doing is not blacksmithing and I would say a very large majority of people who come across your videos are not coming to see you use a press. So I suggest you should start using that hammer and anvil more often and more people are going to start subscribing. Maybe check out alexsteel or Christ centred ironworks too see what type of blacksmithing people are wanting to learn to do

    • @PaulPinto
      @PaulPinto  6 лет назад

      You really must not know what your talking about because both Alec Steele and Christ centered ironworks have and use hydraulic presses. Liam Hoffman who makes incredible axes and knifes only uses a press. And anyone that actually sells things like axes and hammers knows that the only way to forge things fast enough so you can make a profit is to use a press or power hammer. Don’t worry I’ve forged plenty of axes and hammers by hand so like I said feel free to make your own videos and don’t worry about what I’m doing

    • @devincooper3060
      @devincooper3060 6 лет назад

      Paul Pinto obviously you didn’t bother to properly read what I was saying about using the press. Of course it’s normal to use a press but the point is that you don’t use it to completely form your material and call it blacksmithing. Otherwise why don’t you just heat up a block of steel and use one of those industrial presses that stamps out an object with one press and call that blacksmithing? And if you say you have made plenty of axes with just hammers then there’s no excuse to use a press anyway, think of your viewers who want to make what your making, a lot more of them are going to have access to a hammer and anvil/anvil like object compared to presses

    • @PaulPinto
      @PaulPinto  6 лет назад

      Hey no offense but don’t you have anything better to do than argue with someone about blacksmithing on the internet
