It’s not abuse it’s survival. Digimon doesn’t work like a sport, rather they fight in order to stay alive. It’s actually normal to have a death every season. The Digimon are also their own individual characters, not pets. Partnerships rely on mutual bonds to get stronger, the nature of that bond can even drastically change what a Digimon evolves into, resulting in potentially infinite evolution paths.

@@VyserialNot really, partner Digimon too can evolve that way. The evolution via partners is only temporary as well, true Digimon evolution can be permanent, unless they loose enough data to revert.
@@kuroiphox989 Which is often why Kari's Gatomon tends to remain in the Adult stage, rather than regressing to the Child stage unless if she becomes Angewomon and/or Holydramon/Ophanimon.
Imma be that guy. But the similarities to pokemon and digimon stop at there being monsters. In digimon they are not pets but partners and best friends on equal footing. Digimon talk and gove some very wise advice. Enemy digimon on usual do not have human partners and are just universal levels of destructive. There is no method of containment for digimon. If you have to have them be consealed, pray and hope its small enough to make others think they are stuffed animals. And there is no "team" of digimon. Every tamer has only one digimon and that becomes their best friend

Yeah no, in Digimon they do not fight "Just for the laughs" they are fighting for their lives, in all these situations all of them could die.

@@hermawandon7812 They do die, even if reverted to egg. Unless they're a partner Digimon, reverting to egg is a factory reset. Everything about the Digimon chanes completely.
There other ways to kill Digimon without damaging the Digicore.
Also, OP means the human partners can die and it has happened

@@hermawandon7812 No because Beelzemon absorbs Leomon's data in Tamers, he would have reverted to a Digiegg since his Digicore wasn't destroyed but, absorbing him permanently killed Leomon.
Yes, they revert to a Digiegg but like I said, is supposed to be a factory reset.
The Digimon that hatches, may look and sound the same, may evolve into the same Digimon as before but it will be a fresh start. So essentially, they do still die.
There are exceptions though, with Partner Digimon ( Savers/Data Squad) hinted the reset with Agumon, they explained to Marcus (Masaru) he might not remember him. Turns out he did but again, only because he's a partner Digimon.

It’s funny how you mention the power of friendship because there is *one* human character that canonically has the power of friendship, and he isn’t even featured in this video. 😂 A strong friendship does influence a Digimon’s strength though that is true!
well the transformation sequence shown are for the viewer's pleasure. In-Universe the transformation is instant. there is no chance for enemy to attack mid-transformation.
That applies to all shows that has such elaborate transformation scenes
I do remember that one scene in the diaboromon movie/special, Graymon and Kabuterimon were in mid evolution until they got hit
@@blueace9797there's a scene where we see it happen from the outside in Savers/Data Squad and apparently from the outside it looks like when Danny Phantom transforms and takes about the same amount of time, I think? So it’s like a second or so "irl".
The stock transformation is just there to save budget and episode run time. It being cool is just a bonus
@@blueace9797 Yeah but if you watch closely Infermon reacts insanely fast in where he jumps and attacks just as the process begins and by the time the shots reach the digimons the trasformation is almost entirely completed for both MetalGreymon and AlturKabuterimon, he barely managed to interrupt it even when he reacted the second it started.
@@Nimi450 you also have to rember that battle is in side a cuomputer like the space between human and digital worlds and time flows different in there too like in cannon theat whole event was a think hour long at max from egg to kill shot
In Digimon Tamers, the MegaloGrowmon you saw, the Tamers actually FEEL every hit themselves due to their bond with their Digimon. Every slash, punch, and burn is felt by them.
The animation is also purely for the viewer. Adventure 2020 showed it well, but previous Digimon anime also showed it, but the Evolutions are near instantaneous. There's no hour long transformation occurring.

In Tamers the kids feel what their partner does at ultimate level, at Mega they merge with them. And yes as is tradition in anime the transformation sequence is usually for the audience. In the few shows were isn't the sequence unleashes enough power or has a shield to block attacks
Except in our war game where infermon does just blast mid transformation
you mentioning just attacking them while transforming is actually something they do on occasion. The transformation actually happens instantly though, so most enemies aren't quick enough to stop it. The cinematic is just there for us viewers
The best example is when Infermon does it in the short, as shown while the scene we see is just eye candy, the actual evolution in-world is very fast, but not completely instantenous, meaning if you're fast enough on your feat or not taken by surprise by the evolution of your opponent you have a MINUSCULE window of an opening to rush and stop the process.
But halting the evolution process requires so much speed that barely any digimon is fast enough for that, I even think Infermon is the only one to ever actually interrupt completely an evolution.
@@Nimi450 That, and due to various factors, the partner Digimon were limited compared to their usual capabilities. While they were basically fighting in the Internet, a digital realm, it was not the Digital World, and much closer to in contact to the Real World, and such, they were hampered, as seen when a flood of emails actually slowed them down, which wouldn't have been possible in the Digital World. Honestly, I think being in the Internet slowed the Evolutions down as well.
Omegamon only took Diablomon down because:
1: It had so much power it could basically bypass the limitations, being the first Digimon shown to basically go to the very limits of the Mega/Ultimate stage, being on the edge of the Ultra/Super Ultimate stage. (I don't count Apocalymon, since it's canoniclly impssible to tell if that thing even IS a Digimon).
2: Izzy rerouted the emails to Apocalymon to achieve the same effect it had on their Digimon, slowing it down enough to finish it off, wheras before, it was too fast for Omegamon to get a bead on.

@@proclarushtaonasat Was there mentions of lag on the attack Infermon does to stop Kabuterimon and Greymon from evolving to Ultimate stage? I remember it showing up later when Wargreymon and MetalGarurumon are fighting with Diaboromon. And then being weaponized against Diaboromon but not before...
@@Nimi450 they dont spell it out, but in the movie, the evolution sequences show up on screens behind the digimon, and on the pcs of the children watching, meaning they actually last that long in-universe, when that was never the case in the show. but it would make sense, since the digivolution-energy has to travel from the digidestined, through the network, to wherever their digimon are. and the processing speed of their computers are affecting the movements of their digimon, crashing the computer completely froze wargreymon in place. so logistically speaking, everything makes sense, if the evolutions are also depending on their processing power.
Bro u have no idea how badass paildramon evolution scene was. The gunfire in sync with the beat of the song was so epic.
Those "phones" are called Digivices. They physically represent the spiritual/emotional connection between the human characters and their respective Digimon partners. Basically, they're used to help the Digimon partner evolve to their higher stages. You could think of Digimon evolution as being kinda like going Super Saiyan. They're able to go back and forth. Speaking of Super saiyans, that red Digimon from the third clip is voiced by masako nozawa, aka Goku!
I'd just like to point out that these are just the "Perfect" level forms of each Protagonist's Digimon, which in Digimon terms, is only the third stage, there's still a level above that. Would be neat to see you react to their Mega/Ultimate level forms
It can be a bit confusing to a first time viewer, to be fair.
With the english localizations calling the Perfect stage Ultimate, so they had to make Ultimate into Mega lol.
@@Cyril86Originally "ultimate", as in final, was the peak, then they introduced Mega-Ultimate and all the power-ups that can be applied to any level, resulting in things like Fusion, Golden armour, or Fighter/Paladin/Burst mode.
@@TheArcSet In the original Japanese versions what we call "Ultimate" is called "Perfect".
Then, they added a new stage they called "Ultimate" which the english localizers were then forced to make a new name for, which ended up being "Mega".
But yeah after that there's been multiple things that technically go past Mega/Ultimate.

I see, you're pretty sensitive about pokemon since you mention charizard when you see greymon and team rocket when you see ken even though only its color and hair color thats similar.
If in pokemon they fight for fun and their trainer(master) desire also dream become number one.
In digimon they fight bad guys and risk their safety (in ghost game or lastest season with the story occur in human world, it shows that digimon can manipulate, kill, or even eat human), mostly they only have one digimon partner also digivice didn't fuction like pokeball to keep digimon in there (except 6th season with multiple digimon partner), in frontier(4th season) the human become digimon because they only have digimon spirit, digimon evolution sequence only there to look cool and stuff for viewer but actually it happen instantly.
Everyone else has said it before, but the Digimon are independent creatures who battle for survival or to protect their human partners. Most Digimon aren't partnered with a human, and some even influence humans to do bad things depending on the season. The ones partnered with a human usually have the ability to evolve in situations where they need to protect them and will usually revert back to earlier forms after fights since evolving takes a lot of energy out of them while those not partnered can sometimes evolve but only when conditions meet or enough time has passed, and depending on the season evolution styles can be different as more often than not the seasons aren't connected, though the first two are and so are Xros/Fusion. The human characters also usually only have one Digimon each, with a movie character in the first two seasons and pretty much all of Xros being the outliers.
Season 1 had the most basic evolution process with season 2 adding in the ability to armor evolve (giving the characters the ability to work around devices that halt the evolution process) and the ability to Jogress/DNA evolve which fuses two Digimon into one. Season 3/Tamers introduced the card system to promote the trading card game where Digimon could get armor or weapons as upgrades, and blue cards would allow them to evolve while their final evolutions would have them merge with their humans. Season 4/Frontiers is the only season that does not have a human partner with a Digimon, rather the kids themselves turn into Digimon. Season 5/Savers/Data Squad introduced the idea of humans using their data souls/dna to cause their partner to evolve and the main character sometimes can't charge his device up until he punches a Digimon enemy (don't ask), while later on they introduce burst evolution which is sort of like their final forms powering up to super. Seasons 6-7/Xros(War and Hunters)/Fusion gave the characters the ability to merge multiple Digimon together but standard evolution stayed in certain scenarios. Digimon: App Mon I think kept the standard evolution sequences and allowed them to merge with other appmon via apps (I didn't watch this one too much, don't quote me). And seasons 8-9 (Adventures Reboot and Ghost Game) went back to standard evolution but allowed the Digimon to have branching evolutions depending on their situations similar to the actual v-pet devices Digimon was originally based on.
I definitely recommend checking Digimon out. I'd have to say that the main ones I'd recommend are seasons 1 and 2 (they take place after one another and are the best to get a feel for what Digimon is as a lot of what is established in terms of what Digimon is in these seasons will usually carry over to others), Tamers, and Ghost Game. Tamers and Ghost Game are definitely a little darker in terms of story plot and even imagery as Digimon are considered to be bigger threats to humans in these seasons, but a lot of the times in any of the Digimon anime series, the writing is more willing to tackle more mature topics like death, adoption, and family dynamics which makes them stand out from other monster taming anime.
Digimon is not like Pokèmon. They don't store their digimon in the device. You saw the device cause it helps them evolve. Also, in Digimon they fight for survival and both the human and Digimon contribute, and they don't fight others "for fun" like they do in Pokèmon.
Actually in many case digimon have gotten stored in their digivices it a common thing in the later season and games data squad and xross wars and hunter literally have made a point about the digimon being in their digivices
@@michaelliggett1622 It is true that they were stored both in Savers and Xros Wars, and inside a computer during adventure series at times, but he commented on the fact that he saw a digivice before they evolved, and he thought they popped out of there, and I am saying they did not in those particular moments. It is also not common for them to be stored in the digivices even though it has happened, aside from Xros Wars.
@@Shizukayuki92 I understand but I will also say the games also use the excuse of the digimon being in their digivices to explain why they arnt in the real world segments and the recent webnovel digimon seekers also use it that way aswell also in digimon rearise digimon went in out of their tamers smartphones constantly since most of that game took place in the real world and non tamers people wernt used to see the digimon walking around on earth
how are you this good at spotting voice actors. Ok, naruto's voice is iconic and a bit easier to identify, but I have no idea how you noticed the last one had kurapika's VA.
About the relationship about human in digimon, it's a bit different to pokemon, in digimon they usually meet thanks to specific circumstances, they become friend and then things slowly escalate towards protecting both the human world and digital world with their combined efforts. Like someone else said in the comments it's about survival most of the time rather than abuse.
The "Charge up" scenes is just for us to appreciate, for them it takes quite literally less than a second.
The enemy blinks and then he's getting his ass beaten out of nowhere and he's just like "Tf? I was winning till just now?!" 😂
The season with the "Naruto kid" doesn't give the kids Digimon. They BECOME Digimon.
Speaking of similar voice actors: In the last clip the Digimon that looks like the giant rabbit actually has the same Japanese VA as Zoro from One Piece.

Actually the idea of attacking the Digimon Tamer is not exactly unheard of (Digimon Ghost Game the fight against a Mummymon and Gammamon's first evolution) or even attacking the Digimon while they are evolving (Diaboromon did it first)... but most of the time the Digimon Tamer evolving their Digimon Partner are usually in a safe spot to do so and most of the time the enemy of the day is preoccupied with the Digimon Partner in question. Even though the scenes of the Digimon evolving looks long like a few minutes but in actual time it's actually just a few seconds. Also these are the levels of digimon. I'll be using the Japanese localization: Digitama -> Baby I -> Baby II-> Child -> Adult-> Perfect -> Ultimate..... Then there is Super Ultimate, Armor and Hybrid. Spirit Evolution is just a person fusing with the digimon elemental spirit, Armor evolution is just a digimon fusing with digimental egg, Jogress is just two digimon fusing and Jogress evolution is still two digimon fusing but they go up a level, DigiXross is practically Super Sentai/ Power Ranger mecha fusion but with Digimon.
In the 2020 reboot, we saw Agumon fight while evolving. It answered a long standing question with any transfotmation.
So, while I've been told the most recent series did a slight potential retcon.
Digimon are lifeforms from another dimensions, that happen to be unusually close to Earth's(') dimension(s), almost like a shadow, to the point that electrical energy from human technology has come to influence the digital world and it's life.
The digital world and digimon weren't created by humans, but humans have caused major reformatting events in different worlds and in specific digital worlds, accidentally created the entities that serve as their god, or trying to take on that role.
God i wish our tv showed more than the 3 first digimon shows when i was growing up. I still meed to watch the newer ones and some of the older specials/moves.
In Digimon Frontier, the Digidestined don't have partner Digimon, instead they use the spirts of ancient warrior and beast Digimon to transform

@@edwardanimereactionnyes! It's always good to see a newcomer getting into digimon. It's still my favorite anime of all time. Not saying it's the best or anything, just that it's the one that feels like home if that makes sense. Also subbed is definitely the way to go with this one. The ost is better, and in English they changed a lot of names in ways that don't make sense. A lot of high level digimon are based in mythology, and in localization they removed any that weren't Christian for some weird reason.
Don't forget to check the first stock evolution video and than the mega/ultimate evolution for last
Glad that you choose the Japanese version but a little bit disappointed that the video didn't show their finishing move but the fault isn't on your part but the video that didn't include them.
I don't mind you try to compare Digimon and Pokemon but the thing is, Digimon and Pokemon are vastly different that you can't judge Digimon with Pokemon view lens. The Digimon world have different rule than Pokemon world that if you watch the Digimon series itself, you can see how vastly different they both are from each other. That was the mistake that I keep seeing from people who only watch Pokemon and try to judge and compare Digimon and try to match Pokemon rules onto Digimon.

To clear something up, Digimon aren't really pets or animals like Pokemon. They're Digital Monsters and most of them are intelligent and capable or sperch. Some are more animalistic or instinctual, but it's not the majority shown.
Digimon usually goes for a "saving the world" angle rather than just being battles for competition like in Pokemon.
There is a video on the same channel I believe that has all the Ultimate/Mega forms which is higher than perfect.

@secondcoming2783 in Data Squad they were like the MiB, I think? So not survival, but to keep Digimon secret (and I think it turned out that their higher ups were relying on that so they could commit war crimes against Digimon or something. They eventually had to save the world as a result of that, but their deal was originally to find and deport Digimon)
I enjoyed watching Digimon when I was a kid/teenager and I still do as a adult
To give an easy explanation, every Digimon has 6(+a rare 7th) stages of evolutions:
(JP Name - Eng Name)
Baby 1 - Fresh
Baby 2 - In-training
Child - Rookie
Adult - Champion
Perfect - Ultimate
Ultimate - Mega
Super Ultimate - Ultra
Digimon hatch from eggs(like Pokemon)
Digimon can switch between stages. "Child/Rookie" is sort of the Default stage most Digimon stay at.
There are some special stages and evolutions too such as "Armor", "X-Antibody", " Burst", "Fusion", " Xros" Ect.
Any Digimon can also evolve into any other Digimon.

In pokemon, pokemon battles are a worldiwde sport and are rarely used in cases of survival.
In Digimon, especially in the first couple of seasons, the kids were trapped in the digital world with one digimon partner each. They could die at any moment. There are no ither people to help. Many digimon are just staright out malicious and will kill at any given chance. Every battle they have is a battle for their life or due to an inner conflict in the group.
You need to watch a video of the digimon evolving into mega forms as well watching them go from rookie->champion->ultimate->mega is one of the best parts about digimon

Yea, Gammamon (and by extension his evolution Gammamon) are voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, the same Seiyuu of Kurapika and Mordred
I really hope I'm not the only one who wants it to react to the ultimate forms, that's when they really put more budget into it (and maybe the dark forms?)
Digimon really is nothing like Pokemon beyond the fact that there are "monsters", in Pokemon they function more like animals, while in Digimon they function as if they were aliens, since they come from their own world, in addition to coming from the world " digital" (internet), they are quite intelligent creatures with reason, so they can talk, although depending on their type they tend to be more savage, not to mention that the reason why human companions do not directly help with the fight is because easily any Enemy digimon could kill them, so the best way they can help is by providing their power (ironically, the "power of friendship" is canon here) since through their devices the human's feelings are transmitted to their digimon.
There actually was some in-universe stuff about Pokémon fighting being animal abuse- Team Plasma in the fifth gen was about that- so yes, PETA was briefly the antagonist of Pokémon
6:05 Worst one to point that out lol, in that season after a while they start to actually feel what their digimon feel during battle so it's not "he's just chilling where he is", heck in this scene the other two were shocked that he knew what his digimon was feeling cuz they can't see a thing from the top of the building

Though the major complaint I've heard about the reboot is it reduces the cast to just a protagonist and follower dynamic.
Evolution goes: Egg->baby->Rookie->Champion->Ultimate->MegaUltimate. (DNA/Fusion, armour, mode as side power-ups).
I think the highest you saw with any of these was Ultimate.

Digimon aren't animals. They are fully sentient and capable of full comunication. They are more similar to Summons from Naruto, than to Pokemon. Most importantly, there isn't any breading or subservience. They are equal partners in a relationship. They style that relationship takes is one of the interesting difference between partner pairs. :)
You can't have more than one Partner Digimon, for the most part some video games and some kids have multiple partners in the different shows, also Digimon can refuse to fight much like their human partner can refuse to fight and vice versa, Digimon can talk meaning that they can go against what their told and argue their point, and as an aside point, in the many shows of Digimon where almost none share a continuity there is only one constant and that is Partner Digimon either have the same personality as their human or the opposite to aid in the growth of particular traits that the human needed to learn or have more of.
You can't attack someone mid transformation. That's against the rules in all anime, not just this one. Ironically, you said that during 2020, where the first Greymon evolution wasn't a cut scene and he kept fighting while transforming

Why Digimon always transforming/evolving before fighting is because it's created by Toei, and Toei is famous for their transformation gimmicks such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, PreCure, Kamen Rider, and Super Sentai

Why did they use X4k for Shoutmon's "Perfect" stage evolution? It was used, like, once or twice throughout the show. Should have used X4b.
I think they just got really literal about the "1st" Perfect evolution like the title says. It's been a bit since I rewatched Xros Wars, but I'm guessing X4K was technically the first Digimon of the Perfect level Shoutmon turned into, even if they didn't have levels back then. Still, I think it would have been funnier if they got petty and showed the evolutions for all of Shoutmon's Perfect forms: X4K, X4B, X5, and OmegaShoutmon.
Digimon have a will of their own. they are not like pokemon where they have nothing but animal instincts and can't communicate clearly and limited to words 😂 but there are some digimon that are more animal instinct like and then they are some that are civilized like humans
Perfect/Ultimate is their peak but Mega is to go further beyond

Might I suggest Season 5, Digimon Savers, or Season 3, Digimon Tamers. 2 of my absolute favorite seasons, and in my opinion some of the most new viewer friendly(yes I would say over the first season, and that's kinda wild)

I think the evolution sequence is just visual pleaser for the audience since it wouldn't be cool for them to just evolve instantly. But still doesn't stop them cause they did do it for the remake and yes. Doesn't look cool at all. But yes it is actually instantly.
Also, the humans in season 3 and 4 did fight themselves with the first one becoming one with their Digimon for their final evolution stage and the latter ones becoming Digimon themselves.

Something a lot of Pokemon fans seem to think is that digimon are captured and fight for the humans. It's a decision that the digimon makes to protect this human. Usually out of kindness, and they can choose to leave whenever they want. And while you can capture digimon; doing so is literally capturing and enslaving another sentient being that had a life, job, and family before you did so. There are bad guys in the show who do this, as well as humans who straight up invade and try to genocide the digimon out of fear for what they might do if they realize how powerful they are.

As for when characters transform. Most of the time it is instant and we're only seeing it happen during that small window. Sometimes it can be used for offense and defense and very rarely is the enemy able to attack during the transformation.

It feels so weird seeing people have 100% incorrect takes on something.
When your watching a video, and a person calls a digimon a pet, you know somethings wrong with the world, its straight up shown in some of the anime they have killed humans, you never see in pokemon a charizard burn someone to death , and in a way I feel digimon and pokemon differ majorly due to plots (digimon being able to go into some very dark plot points at times) plus digimon or independent thinking beings who only sometimes partner up with humans(these humans are known as digi destined and the small devices they have are the digivice a electronic device that helps their digimon partner digivolve, from fresh stage all the way to mega stage and perhaps beyond, most digimon dont want anything to do with humans, most seeing them as pests or something to exploit for their own gain , pokemon has very few human speaking beings like meowth or maybe mewtwo if you count telepathic, were as most if not all digimon can talk like humans, having a whole world where they reside, living their own lives/culture nearly separate from the human world.

15:06 Peak Form?.....well yes and no. English was a little extra and renamed all Levels. There are usually 8 Levels or Stages from Egg to peak Level and the final Form or Level is know as Mega-Level but i think in english it was called Ultra-Level while the actual Ultra-Level was called Ultimate. And here it gets funny, because there is an actual Ultimate Level, that goes even beyond Mega-Level but not every Digimon can reach that. Anyway, english just refuses to change all that which is why in english the ultimate Level is simply just stronger then Champion-Level but that's it. Plus, english fucked up with the Songs.

Adding to what @@charisk2d808 said, the idea of Vitramon = Perfect is reflected in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory, and the Cyber Sleuth compilation rerelease, where Vitramon can Spirit Evolve from not just Agunimon, but also Meramon, Growlmon, and Birdramon. Plus, in those games, Vitramon can skip Aldamon, and go straight to KaiserGreymon. Which also tells us that Aldamon is Ultimate level, though not in the same realm of strength that KaiserGreymon is.
