  • TwinBee makes his second appearance on the PlayStation in the platform's first week of release in Japan with Konami's competitive puzzler TwinBee Taisen Puzzle-Dama. Can our favorite bumblebee android keep up with his pals in an unfamiliar genre? And just what the heck is Puzzle-Dama, anyway? We explore the twisted, tangled history of multiple Konami franchises in this comprehensive retrospective.

Agree with Burman below, this is one of my favorite video projects on the whole dang Internet right now. Great work!

"Because they were cheap enough" has to be the only reason I bought both the Twinbee and Tokimeki versions of Puzzle Dama for the PS without even knowing what they were. :D

both the penguin and the dog shown at 5:45 appear in a boss rush sequence in a parodius game and I remember disliking them for not having much in the way of animation. Interesting to see where they came from. Hard to dislike the penguin too much though, as he is exactly as sassy and cute as a cartoon penguin should be.

They were in Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius on PS1, Saturn, and PSP (in Parodius Portable).

This is a fun game, having the original Taisen Puzzle Dama is a nice little bonus. But this is not the only Puzzle Dama/Tokkae Dama I own. I have on Saturn, the first Tokimeki Memorial one, and Chibi Maruko-Chan's version, on PS1, I have the second Tokimeki Memorial one, as well as the Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Tokkae Dama. Only Suzume Taisen Puzzle Dama to go, and maybe purchase the Saturn Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Tokkae Dama and PS1's first Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Puzzle Dama (though to be honest both of these games are pretty much exactly alike for PS1 and Saturn, it would be a redundant purchase, but one I feel I'd have to do anyway. Gotta build up that already massive video game collection even more).

There's also the SNES entries in Goemon 4, which had a Puzzle Dama minigame and the likes of Tsuyoshi Shikkari Shinasai Puzzle Dama. Alongside Wagamama Fairy Mirmo de Pon: Taisen Mahoudama on GBA

Taisen puzzle dama is such a trashy series. I love it
