as someone who built homes/buildings/additions/decks/garages/and poured enough concrete to cover the earth lol...The time, dedication, and skills and devotion to building this is insane. You guys have a pretty amazing family to say the least..
I'm impressed from start to finish on what you all have done considering your back grounds. Been a builder for over 30yrs and seen people with alot more knowledge and give up or make a complete disaster. So max KUDOS and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to you all and can't wait to see the final finish 👌👍
What a great family, that was inspiring to watch! I also wish our house was made of straw and clay instead of a single layer of bricks with single glazing now that Dutch winter is approaching
Hello Syd, I was watching the build on this amazing adobe home but I didn't get to see the finished product. Is there a link so I can see it all finished? Thanks! ❤😄👏🏽
this is probably not something you hear about very often, I am a guy and I and I like purple. Syd that sweatshirt is gorgeous. also I wish I were in New Mexico right now.
UF cable is rated for underground direct earth burial. Why would this be preferred over NM cable in an above ground application? I would not place any power cabling in direct contact with strawbales but would use conduit or perhaps MC cabling which would aid in grounding the system and devices. Curious to know what the AHJ said.
Loved this video! Do your siblings have a channel documenting their whole earthen construction journey in detail? I’d love to see more and follow along!
Loving the update! I even watched it twice. I know the exposed beams are kind of a look in New Mexico. But I’m wondering if they have to be exposed because of the moisture content of the beams. Beautiful work and I really enjoy watching all you guys work together. Thank you for sharing
The siblings should have made their own channel for this whole build. I’d be watching! Super cool. Very time consuming but the perfect trade off of time and sweat to keep cost down for a build during the quarantine. I am getting anxious to see everyone move in! So coooool!!!
10:40. I remember the old doctor who was teaching us about using all five senses to do urinalysis. What I was the only one to notice was that he stuck his middle-finger in the specimen cup but switched to put his index finger on his tongue. Some of the students actually tasted it. Boy, were they mad when they found out the lesson was about careful visual observation, NOT about taste!!!
A great bunch of folks! HGTV should take notice of this build. It is good to see more than just bikes for a change: cyclists do have a life beyond the spokes and slopes!
This might be a labor of love, but it is not a cost effective way to go. The crane rentals, large factory built windows, etc., are all indications that money was not really an issue on this project.
Not sure what your definition of cost effective is, but the windows were salvaged and cost them around $1k for all the windows in the house. I don't know what the crane rental cost, but I don't think it was exorbitant since they operated it themselves. Frankly I don't think it's realistic to build a house of this size for much less than they have (this is part of the reason it's not done yet -- you know, time, money, quality...pick two...)
Straw bale is actually less flammable than traditional stick and frame builds because it's so densely packed and the adobe makes it even more flame retardant.

Touche to the parents for raising such a great family.
that is the definition of “labor of love”. you guys are incredible.

This house will be a local landmark. Almost the best part of this vid is The Franklin Paterfamilias doing the Toolbox Two Step 🎶
I love the vibe! Your family totally rocks!
Watching this house is so amazing. I've never seen anything like it. That straw and electric wires makes me so nervous.
Send It! For puppies! Sold!
We built a Strawbale and we put our electrical wires in conduit in the straw.
Oh yay! I have been wondering about the progress. Fantabulous job you all!
Your entire family is nuts. I love it. Congrats.

Wow, lot of work. Good thing you guys have lots of friends!!
VERY COOL! And the way everyone is pitching in.... :)
Thanks for sharing guys. Can't wait to see the finished house.
I enjoy your normal content, but this series has been great.
The sawdust and planer shavings can be mixed with the clay instead of straw and it will make a smooth plaster
Looks like fun actually, ever little kids favorite thing to do. Play in the mud. Thanks for the update.
Small house, but not "tiny"! Looked so good, so much dedication. 🏡
Yeah, it got a bit bigger than their original vision 😂

Super fun vid. Thanks for making!
Very cool project. I was actually wondering how thst was going during your last video. Thanks for the update.
loved the dirt sifter moment haha
How do the strawbale walls meet the top of the roof? And how do you attach them to the timber frame?
Any chance of an update on the sibling house as winter is coming to an end?
I don't think they come back until May or so, so nothing happening until then!

They don't, but they do a an Instagram @casita_chronicles
Any updates on the Strawbale house.
I would like to see what it looks like now.
Will there be an update on this build? It's looking amazing
My sibs have been taking a break because of winter but should be back at it soon.
The house looks native to Taos! ✌️😁😎❤️

Man I was hoping to see this finished but I don't see that video
beautiful house!!!
how much time did you guys put in to get to this point?
Macky, are you going to do a race report on Iceman Cometh?
Yup, video will be out next week!
What state are you building in. We put stucco on our Strawbale due to the heavy monsoon rains.
New Mexico
Earth ships, straw bales: does New Mexico attract people who like to build outside the box, or do they become that way after they move there?
New Mexico, Arizona, California.
20:50 a cute little what?? Niche ("neesh")?
"Sifters, sifters, there were never such devoted sifters!"
So are they finished yet.
They took a break over the winter and have started back up recently. We'll have an update soon.

😂🤣
Are the Franklin's the most likeable family ever or what?!
😁
Does anybody know what the dimensions of the house are? I like the size but need the measurements. LOL

mixing straw with mud to build a house....way to go people....free labor w/good time
Looks like fun, but hope it doesn’t rain on those walls…

Arf ... I've try to order Send It and shipping cost to France are more than the game itself ☹️😭 Too bad... But the house project is really great
*"SEND IT!"*
wow this bo guy is so cute :3 mmm cuddly
Please, for the love of God call it soil.
Dirt is dead, and soil is living, and you’re building a living earth structure.
Beautiful job!

This is the poo room... you might see some cracks but that's okay.
Im really curious as to why your siblings all have hilariously bad haircuts.
i love this.... but good lord am i the only one who thinks it looks like a tinder box?
