VIDEO CONTENTS:
[0:00] Introduction
[0:59] The yarn
presoaked for an hour. Add 5 T white vinegar so we have acid before countertop speckles.
[2:02] The dye colors
DHarma acid dyes in Peach Blush, Tangelo, Teal Green, Kelly Green, Golden Poppy
old 1% dyetock of dharma's Caribbean blue
Use 15 mL (1 T) of the 1% dyestock to a little bit of water
[3:28] Yarn mop!
[3:46] Prepping the dip dyeing dyebath
16 cups water, 4T white vinegar. + 15 mL of the blue dye measured above.
This is hot and ready to go before speckling starts.
[4:39] Speckling the yarn on the countertop
[8:01] Flipping the yarn to dye the other side
[11:59] Done Speckling - Heat setting time
[12:16] Dip dyeing a speckled skein without heat setting
[14:00] Cleaning the counter with the yarn mop
[14:41] The first dip dyed colorway
[15:04] Removing the steam set speckled yarn
[15:24] Dip dyeing a steam set speckled yarn
Fresh dyebath but the same set up
16 cups water + 4 T vinegar + 15 mL dye
[19:21] Comparing the yarn dyed so far
[20:14] Dip dyeing yarn that sat on the counter for a few hours (no steam!)

Interesting comparison! I usually dip dye my background color first, then speckle, then steam. Always great to see different approaches.

I'd like to see this with citric acid in with the dye for speckling, I think you got spread partially because of no acid
I would try dip dying, then spackling may be the way to go
Just wondering why you do not add the acid to the water before you soak the yarn (seems to me it would distribute better into the yarn that way)?
