Papaoutai means "father where are you?". Here's a description of the original song and video: "The song and video refers to the absence of Stromae's father - who had little presence in Stromae's life even before being killed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide - and to Stromae's fear of being unable to be an effective father with no memory of ever having a father of his own" The PTX version takes a lighter turn of the story, where we see a boy trying to get his fathers attention, but he's too occupied with his work. So the boy goes into his own imaginary world where his toys come to life, before we see the dad looking in the room at the end.
The song is about a father who is too busy and the little boy is lonely and imagines his toy come to life. Scott loved this song s and took French lessons to do it. His French is quite good here
There are actual compilations of Scott “trying to speak” because he is notorious for messing up lyrics and just stumbling over his own speech. That said, he has an amazing gift where he can learn/retain lyrics in other languages and mimic the pronunciations very well. He is a walking contradiction sometimes 😂

I like it better than the video... except for the fact that the camera person is obsessed with Kirstin. (Which backfires, you can see her screwing up the lyrics during Mitch's solo... though it would've been nice to see MITCH during Mitch's solo).
They talked about doing this video and said that places were hurting that they didn’t know existed, because of how they had to move pretending to be dolls.

I recommended this previously along with other songs they do in other languages..."Gangnam Style" (Korean, plus a blooper video with it), and "Perfume Medley" (Japanese)...there's another one that I can't think of at this moment. Check them out...really terrific !!

PTX are perfectionists - of course Scott would do French lessons to sing a French song - would we expect anything less? I remember reading somewhere that in one live performance of this, Scott had to stop singing (maybe a cough or a cold?) and Mitch stepped right in and kept singing in French. Can anybody verify that and share a link? I had the same thought as you!! Are there PTX dolls? I would buy a set today and put them right beside my speakers!! Hope the set includes Kevin's cello.
You should watch the Stromae version. Also sung in French but I'm sure there will be English subtitles on that one. 😀 You should know that is more of a 'dark' version. But worth a watch & just as good in it's own way.
