      Ok, quick question: the dmg it says something about, for example, put 2 spells on the same staff? Like shield and magic missile to make a combo staff? I mean, they used to burn charges accordingly with the spell level, like staff of power, but these ones burn charges per spell, so a single staff with 6 charges with 2 spells would not have that much power but grants more versatility in combat ☝️🤔
      And i think if there is, the rules would say it can only apply to a non magical item? So you cannot for example, increase a weapon power from +1 to a +2 or a +3? I mean, sometimes you just want the same item but better instead of another item that improve some part but not all, and sometimes the 'item juggler' isnt allowed on the table or seems weird from the setting perspective
      🤔☝️
      But if it is possible to 'improve' a magic item, what would be the cost? Again the normal rules? Put a lv1 spell in a legendary sword would cost only 50gp and 10 days?

      Is there anything that indicated in the DMG that the spell you cast into an armor, staff, weapon has to be at the minimum level? Can I for example create an Armor or staff that has Armor of Agathy at 5th level if I have 5th level slots and take the time needed for a 5th level spell?

Ontop of only having 4 hour long rests, they can get proficencies in tools that they can change out at the end of a long rest. Wow, Weapon of Warning is insane now. Tons of battles can be determined simply by how the first round goes, so making it extremely likely you go first is amazing. This is really strong with the new Alert Feat (which is an origin feat). You will almost always go first with advantage and proficency in initiative rolls (and assuming a decent dex if you build around this), but then you can swap your initiative with any of your party members who happened to roll low even with advantage.

    I think I might dislike my understanding of the crafting rules presented here, it seems overly restrictive... Like why can't a Fighter with just Tool Proficiency with Smith's Tools, and a Wizard with Proficiency with just Arcana coordinate to craft a magic item that neither of them could create when working alone?
    Also, why do the helpers each need proficiency with BOTH Arcana, and the relevant Tool Proficiency?
    Instead of having rules that ALL of the characters involved need Proficiency with ALL of the Skills/Tools involved, I think the crafting system might be a lot more fun if so long as at least one character has proficiency with each of the Skill/Tool proficiencies required to make the magic item, an individual character only needs one of those Proficiencies to contribute to making the item, but the more proficiencies they have, the more they contribute to completing the work. Like what if crafting a common magic item were updated to take 10 days (80 hours), requiring 5 days (40 hours) of crafting time from someone with Proficiency with Arcana, and 5 days (40 hours) of crafting time from someone with Proficiency with the required tool, but 1day (8 hours) of work from a character with Proficiency with both Arcana, and the relevant Tool Proficiency would count towards both of those crafting times, and effectively count as 2 days (16 hours) of the total 10 days (80 hours) of total crafting work?

    "The 8 hours of crafting don't need to be consecutive." Can you clarify please, as the rules just say that the "days" don't need to be consecutive. My DM and I read this as "1 work day needs to be 8 hours in that same day"

    • @Oriansenshi
      @Oriansenshi Месяц назад +2

      1 workday being 8 hours is an arbitrary measurement of time. For common items that take 5 days that just means it is any combination of 40 hours, but if you do more than 8 in one day you run the risk of getting exhausted. But doing less than 8 in a day is always an option. You can chip away at that 40 hour total with 1 hour here or 1 hour there.

    • @acelegna
      @acelegna Месяц назад +6

      @@Oriansenshi yes, but the fact remains that the rules say that the "days don't need to be consecutive". It says nothing but the hours.
      I think Pack Tactics and other people are viewing this from a programmer's point of view:
      If: 1 work day = 8 hours
      And: workdays don't need to be consecutive
      Therefore: hours don't need to be consecutive
      And I don't think that's the point of this rule. But I might be wrong

      @jdbq2000 Месяц назад +7

      @@acelegna I guess your DM has the final say in the matter.
      Personally speaking, I think the way that it's being interpreted by Pack Tactics and others is simply the common sense interpretation. If I were to plan to spend 8 hours working on crafting, only to have my work interrupted unexpectedly at the 4 hour mark, what exactly happens that invalidates the four hours of work I just did? You could take each item on a case by case basis and figure out the processes involved for each, but generally speaking I don't see why progress could only be made in 8 hour increments and no less than 8 hour increments.

    • @jdbq2000
      @jdbq2000 Месяц назад +2

      That said, I will admit that allowing someone to pick up and drop the process whenever they like could lead to some painful bookkeeping, but if I was DMing for someone who wanted to do that, that would be entirely on the player to keep proper records. And there would definitely be times where the environment just wouldn't be suitable for crafting, unless they got creative.

    • @timogul
      @timogul Месяц назад +2

      I really don't see why a crafting process should _need_ to be consecutive. Sometimes you might need to spend a period of time on a single task, like heating and working on metal, but such tasks should only take an hour or so at a time, nothing should take a full eight consecutive hours. I could understand a rule of needing to only count whole hours rather than minutes, but not requiring 8 hour days.

    • @blivetwidget
      @blivetwidget Месяц назад

      I've been trying to get an answer to this myself. After all the takedowns during PHB previews, creators are understandably very reticent to show actual images of the rulebook, so we can only go off what they are saying.
      What they're saying about the new DMG is that Arcana skill and Calligrapher's Tools are needed to craft scrolls. But PHB 223 says you need only "proficiency in the Arcana skill OR with Calligrapher's Tools" to craft scrolls. Is there some undiscussed exception in the DMG for scrolls or is it presenting an alternative ruleset?
      What they're saying also is that Herbalism Kit OR Alchemist's Supplies are needed to craft potions. PHB 223 requires the Herbalism Kit specifically to craft Potions of Healing (no ability to do it with Alchemist's Supplies) - are the basic Potions of Healing an exception to the potions allowed by Alchemist's Supplies, are all potions of healing exceptions, or (again) is it an alternative ruleset?
      The DMG has historically contained both rules additions and rules alternatives incompatible with the rules given in the PHB, e.g. Spell Points in 2014, so I wouldn’t be surprised whichever it is. Thus far I just haven't been able to suss out which it is from the information given.

    So, I may be late to the party, and this might have been spoken about already, but I see little to no restrictions in the official rules. To me it sounds like if the DM does not house rule this, a lvl 1 character with some funding could find an NPC to make then an enspelled weapon (let's make it twin daggers for sake of argument), and make two fireball enspelled daggers. The rules read "while holding the weapon, you can expend one charge to cast its spell", but technically not how long it takes. It does not say to take an action to cast the spell, nor does it say to make an attack action casting the spell, so it kind of sounds like I can just blast 12 fireballs in turn one of combat at will, and still have my action. Even if we use common sense and say casting this spell is like casting any other spell, you lack flexibility, but any evoker would pale in comparison. And let's not forget, you are still level one, but spit spells like a sorcerer on crack, even if it's just the base version. I love crafting, when I DM I like high power campaigns with rule of cool and all, I can always crank up the CR if my party is too well equipped, but even then this sounds so horribly imbalanced. I mean, replace fireball with raise dead. Nuff said.

    I still really really love the enspelled items just as a concept. It finally gives us a lot more room for creativity with basically custom magic items that could potentially do a lot of interesting things both in and out of combat. Plus the Artificer's ability to craft Uncommon tier items super fast and cheaply really can make this pretty noteworthy because all of a sudden by default they can do things like craft a staff of cure wounds in like 2.5 days for 50 gold. Or 1.25 days with a buddy. If you have the gold, inside of a week an artificer can be pumping out like 3 staves each with different useful first level spells that now nobody needs to prepare
    And they have a pretty solid list of basic 1st level spells to pull from like Cure wounds, the new jump spell, Absorb elements, etc. And Spells like Alarm and Disguise Self would be nice to have without ever needing to prepare them. Hell if you get access to Find Familiar then an enspelled staff would essentially let everyone in the party have a familiar wouldn't it? How does the material costs of spells factor into the enspelled item?
    Also, the artificer specific magic casting implement, the All Purpose Tool, essentially gives them free proficiency in all tools, so they can craft literally anything lol. Tho even without that I do appreciate that Tinker's Tools are mentioned as the requirement to craft general wonderous items which the Artificer of course is centered around.

    Can I choose the results of the table?
    A robe of useful items is a consumable uncommon item that takes 5 days and 100gp to craft
    If the answers are Yes and Yes, It can give you 16000gp worth in gems

      I can see where the idea comes from... RAW it is totally possible to set a condition as "near a secret door."
      However, the bad faith is assuming that condition means the doll is capable of knowing its near one. Theres a must be observable clause in the conditions, a secret stuff is hidden by default. So... the near a secret door phrase should only activate after the secret door is revealed.
      Same goes for lying, it'd only detect revealed lies.
      Unless the doll is assumed to have certain stats for perception and insight that is (given its attunement... maybe it'd use the players stats for that?).
      ....
      That said... talking doll is kind of broken good as auto detector for things now that I'd read and thought about it, like way beyond a mere alarm.

      Like this case: the talking doll didnt say it can do that secret door detection... but also didnt say it cant, actuallu, it didnt say anything about specifics, so it enters in the description of a 'grey area' of the rules where its up to the table to decide together what it can and what it cant do, and if there's no according, the dm "has the last word "

    So a big note on the nerfs: they nerfed the Found versions, but, due to how crafted ones now are based on what spell/spell level/ spell save and such you are able provide at the time of enchanting, you can now Make far better items than you can find, AND since you can now use objects for crafting components, with no limitation saying it cant use a magic item, you can take an existing magic item you find, then upgrade it to be stronger every time you have access to new bonuses, upcasts, or what have you.
    And i REALLY like that change, instead of making characters throw away their old gear, you can now have them forge that +1 sword into something epic down the road, or, rather that throwing a weak wand out because the spell is not worth it anymore, they can boost the wand up, giving it more casts, better casts, and bonuses to the roll. You *could even use those rules to drop some pre-upgraded items into a game world, like having the big mage boss have some boosted wands and scrolls stashed somewhere

    Can you explain the changes to resting and how it affects rest casting?

  • @wesleyjudson599
    @wesleyjudson599 Месяц назад

    I think you missed the part for "Work per Day" where it says 'For each day of crafting, you must work for 8 hours'. (1:36)
    As such, spending 1 or 2 hours due to rest casting or while on a cart might not meet the 8 hour requirement to count as a day of crafting. Obviously, having an assistant increases the chances of that working, unless the statement 'divide the time needed to create an item by the number of characters working on it,' is referring to days and not hours. [That would be a strange interpretation by a GM, but possible.]
    That said, this is pretty important, because 16+ hours of work each day also doesn't work with this interpretation of the rules, because its based on (days spent crafting), not (hours spent crafting).

    Pro Tip: The best crafter in 2024 DnD is an Astral Elf. Because they can change both a skill and a TOOL PROFICIENCY/weapon on a long rest.
    This means that you can make an mage who can craft whatever magic item they want (unless it casts a spell that isn't on your spell list). Because you can just wake up with the Tool Proficiency that is required for that item and go to work. Trance only taking 4 hours is an added bonus because you can get 4 hours of crafting done every adventuring day.
    Another idea: The Pot of Awakening is even more attractive to create! With a lenient DM you might be able to have your very own crafting buddy!

    So for 400 GP and 10-20 days an artificer could upgrade heavy armor to mithral, infuse it to +1 or pick up a shield and infuse that for +3 and be able to cast shield through magic initiate, likely before they can achieve the armorer subclass. Then take heavy armor master to subtract proficiency from damage at level 4. At level 5 they could add mirror image with taunts from the thunder gauntlets, and after a short rest they can switch to infiltrator and still have advantage on stealth checks.

      You can’t infuse magical item. So no it doesn’t work. Mithril armor are magic items and there is no infusions artificer can do that gives +3 AC. People always says wild shit about Artificer and then people don’t fact check so everyone thinks they are broken, when actually they are broken in the wrong way (they are terribly weak).
