I’m 43. Been happening since I was about 15/16... really long stints w/o self harm. But it always comes back. Always associated w/anger. Don’t want to hurt anyone else or destroy things... so.. I hurt myself 🤷🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

My dad would break doors or windows or sometimes hurt my mom... and my mom would yell at my dad, me or my sister when feeling angry. I also didn't want to be like that. So when I'm sad or I'm yelled at or things don't go my way, I cut myself, or scratch myself or hit my head. You are not alone in this. Others feel the way you do. Doesn't matter what age, people have feelings. Coping mechanisms are temporary and don't work when under major amounts of stress. What does work, is taking time to think and meditate, then after a while of introspection, taking action. Whether that be talking to the person who hurt you, or taking a vacation to get away from work, or even counseling with a therapist. But that takes time and effort, and requires a lot of strength. I don't have that strength yet. I sincerely hope you find the strength to gain inner peace and work through the pain.❤

It is a release, it is self punishment. because it doesnt matter how old you are, you don't stop making mistakes and letting people down and stuffing up. And I could never hurt anyone else. The mental health system here is a failure, and lifeline and the other talk lines seem to be syrup and long silences. Tho you no one will know anyway, long sleeves, clean up any evidence. Put on a mask that that makes other people happy.
Is it a bad thing, it is a release, self punishment....
