  • My Honda CB500X is now about a year old and we've clocked up a very respectable 10,000km of wandering around this end of Africa. Here's a little summary of some accessories I've fitted and some experiences acquired along the way which may be of interest to anyone else looking at getting a 500X themselves.
    Please feel free to leave your comments below 🙂👍🏻

      Hey Miles! Welcome aboard! So glad to have you join us. 🎉 This bike is like a Swiss Army knife - it's got a little something for every situation! 😁 Definitely give it a test ride when you can, and you'll see what I mean.
      You might notice a bit less power compared to your GS, but trust me, the fuel economy totally makes up for it! 😂 If you've got any questions at all, just give a shout. There are loads of 500X communities on Facebook and RUclips, and like you said, hardly anyone has anything negative to say about it. And if they do, it's usually more about personal preference than any actual Honda problem.
      Can't wait to hear how you get on! Keep us posted! 👍🏻😊

    I purchased a lightly used CBx 22' this April with 936mile, as of writing it has 12430miles. I have repaired an oil leak from loose oil pan bolts and found a small coolant leak from a loose water pump hardware. Only serious mods that I have added were Rally Raid suspension Level 1, overall pretty good scooter but that Honda myth has been shattered...

    Great channel Mike! I also have the same bike & color..2023. Bought last June...about 2,500 miles so far. Are there other tires you considered or would consider after the Mitas? Were you able to get the 160 rear? Not sure what to put on after I get a few more miles on the stock Dunlops. Haven't ventured off road with it yet on account of the tires. Looking at the Anakee Adventures but not sure if they're good enough for gravel roads. Really don't plan to do a lot of gravel roads but still want the option to go if I want. Installed the Rally Raid skid plate and foot pegs. Also have the same Bark Busters. I also added a front fenda extenda and a rear wheel shock shield hoping to keep a little more debris off the shock and radiator. My radiator guard & the fender extenders are made by Pyramid out of UK. The radiator guard was more than others on amazon & eBay but I wanted a trusted brand...and it actually has better holes I believe to give the radiator better ventilation. Too bad we have half a planet separating us otherwise I'd say let's hook up for a ride. Be safe, Happy Holidays, and keep the awesome vids coming. Cheers!!

    • @lekkarides
      @lekkarides  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks. I haven’t thought much about the next tyres. Perhaps the same or the Anakee as you mentioned. I seem to recall the rear Mitas is a tad narrower than the standard Dunlop, just for your size planning.

      The OE tyres and Anneke Adventures are very similar, I’ve used both on my 500X and have been pleased with both. The original tyres are good off-road in most of the situations you would take a 500X and given that even with a lot of off-road use here in Europe that’s going to be less than 10% of use in the real world I wouldn’t want to compromise the great on-road performance provided by the Dunlops or Michelin tyres.

    I’m concerned that you are leaving the little tyre valve adapters on permanently. I have know the centrifugal force on the valve to cause the valve to shear off at the rim causing a catastrophic instant pressure loss. Not good!

    I'm trying to decide between getting a 500x or a 650gs. What's the suspension like on dirt roads. If your doing 80 to 100 kmh and hit some decent pot holes how does it handle it. The alloy wheels are a worry also.

    • @lekkarides
      @lekkarides  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Glen, great to hear from you. I've had no problem with these rims at all. Have you heard anyone complaining about their alloy rims on their 500x as yet?? Some upsides are they are tubeless, so punctures should be an easy fix affair. My feeling is that if you want to ride at breakneck speed around the place then you best have spoked rims. I like to enjoy the view rather than get to the next spot in turbo mode. You have a few options, 1. 500X with standard rims 2. 500x with Rally Raid spoked rims 3. Transalp with spoked rims. 4. A GS with either alloy or spokes. Happy decision making 🤣

    Is this a manageable 1st bike? I'm over 6ft and heavy (COVID and WFH was not kind to the midline) so not sure if I should go to the 250-300cc class to learn, but the 650 Vstroms and KLR650 look a bit intimidating. Wondering if the 500 is the goldilocks zone for me. Also curious how much the bottom and side bike protection cost.

    • @lekkarides
      @lekkarides  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Pieter. To be honest I’d be more inclined to learn on a much smaller bike to start with. Something like a 125cc that is easy and light and slow. Once you’ve been riding that a while then progress up to something a little bigger if you need to. The most fun is on small bikes 😁

      @@lekkarides thanks, I've ridden 125cc Scooters plenty - got the license as a teen but then got a car and we sold the scooter. Now that I'm in my 30s I'm looking at real motorcycles, particularly ones that'll be great on light off-roading. A 125 now would definitely be too small, so my search started at a Kawasaki Versys X300 and I'm really liking what I see from the CB500X, looks to be more offroad capable - which is what I'll enjoy. I guess I'll need to test ride them to be sure what's going to be best. Thanks for the content, subbed for future updates.
