6532 and EBay = 95% chance of getting garbage, he isn't kidding it's bad. You can rejuvenate that display just as you would a 6 or 7 digit display just find the filament pins. Great job!

Yes we zapped it a little bit and got it back in business. I didn't have a good way to do it so I stole a couple voltages off the auxiliary power supply with some jumper wires and got it nice and bright.

Totally agree on the LEDs, you gotta do what looks good, not just replace every damn bulb with LED just because it's LED.

I love the effort you put back into these games to make them at least presentable. Theres a shop near me that do arcade/pinball repairs with a handful games for sale on the showroom. They had a frogger upright i was interested in but they wanted $2,500 for it. and the black laminet was all dried up and peeled off. It was terrible.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 лет назад +2

Yeah we try to get them as nice as we can, sometimes there's not much you can do but we do the best with what's within reason.... $2500 for a Frogger? Little high, we charge pretty good prices (for us!) but a really nice Frogger would be $1499.

Yeah thats what I would sort of expect. They were going on and on about how rare and or collectible they are because its the LAI cabinet. (Leisure Allied Industries whom manafactured the cabinets in Australia) I keep forgetting I dont live in the US. But come on just replace the damn vinyl!

If those chips are getting hot they might be ripe for a small heatsink. Some thermal epoxy would probably work ok and keeping them cool should make them last longer, heat kills IC's.

If anything I put LEDs inn the G.I. so there is no G.I. Burned up connectors.
The Star Trek Data east was bad every G.I. conneector was melted down and even J5 on the PPB had a track blown off.
And for the most part put in Frosted whites in or Warm White LEDS.
The problem is most put in Super Brites every where in the game.
I say do the GI to save connectors and boards but can leave the controlled lighting as regular bulbs as those are just blinking on and off.

Haven't watched all the way through yet and you may have already sold the games but if you didn't find a fix for the two way mirror plexi I think you can get the mirrored window tint to fix that. Basically strip the old stuff off with sandpaper and then polish it with like 10K grid paper, just look up how they make large acrylic aquariums on how they sand the plastic welds to make them optically clear. Anyway with the lights right behind it it should work pretty well. Just a real light tint that is mirrored. If they are already gone you can try it on the next one. Probably fix the plastics the same way.
Have to agree the 80's games are really interesting though. The ramps are always a lot of fun to me.

In general I would agree with you regarding LEDs. I prefer incandescents. I even prefer incandescents to the flourescent for the back box.
With that said, if you can get the Warm White LEDs they are a good compromise if you do need to convert a machine.

    • @LyonsArcade

Ron, on testing the 7400 - with the multimeter test you are doing, you are really testing the over/under voltage protection diodes on the pins. With that said, yeah, if the chip got overstressed enough to kill the protection diodes, the rest of the chip most likely got fried.

    Try the LEDs from cointaker.

Just finished the video. Funny how you shorted the switch line. I did the exact same with with a Barracora a few months ago, but I did an even dumber by bending the lane change switch with the game on. Killed the PIA and another chip (hex inverter?!?)

A quick tip for these Gottlieb pop bumpers and LED lamps. I usually have to add a small amount of solder to the bottom of the lamp to get good continuity. These LED lamps seem to always have less solder than the original incandescents at the bottom tip.
