- A psychological breakdown of the ramifications of bullying. A Silent Voice breaks the mold by showing the first-hand experiences of a harasser. It can be very easy to write off a person who is abusive, but I think it's crucial to remember that they are human too. We can all act bad or good depending on the circumstances. But it's important to remember that anyone can change and grow as a person with some encouragement.
Thanks a ton for this video, it helped me a lot to understand the movie in a deeper level as I am attempting to create a post graduate dissertation (English literature) on the psycho analysis of Shoya Ishida through the lens of Lacan's concepts.

"Ueno tries to re-insert herself back into Ishida's life" was a great piece to point out, cause it really made me understood why she acted the way she did when they first met. Like how it's easier to re-enact old memories with friends you haven't seen in a very long time, instead of starting the relationship over from zero again. Like "Hey, remember me? We use to pretend to cough on people for likes on RUclips. Wanna do that again?" (Coughing on people is extremely socially unacceptable now due to Covid compared to before Covid).
However, I don't believe that Ueno "didn't" gain an outside perspective or that she "didn't" account for her actions. To me, Ueno knows she's a bad person. She's very honest to herself and doesn't butter anything up for anyone. In a universe where Shouko didn't existed; Shoya wouldn't be alone, is a fact that is very pessimistic but possibly true.
I don't think Shimada went out of his way to make Ishida feel horrible. That's just people labeling others as "bully/boring/strict/dramatic/teachers pet", which tends to spread around in schools. I don't think he pretended to not like his previous hobbies. People tend to drop things that are later attached to other things that are socially unacceptable. Like how Subway use to be popular cause of that one commercial guy, until he was later found out to be a pedophile.
Also, "Continue the cycle of bullying"?. To me, Shimada is depicted as Shoya's trauma. Shoya looked up and saw Shimada's dead eyes, like "Oh.. those are the eyes of someone that sees a bully... it's me... I'm the bully". I think it reminded him of who he's depicted as and really answered his question "Am I allowed to have this much fun?" when he was enjoying the park earlier ago. Which I'm sure his thoughts went downhill after that and caused him to go back to his previous copping mechanisms.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown of the video I appreciate the input! I get where you're coming from for Ueno. She is very honest with herself, but to me, she didn't change too much until the end of the narrative in terms of behaviors if that makes sense. For your second paragraph, I can definitely see that. I like your interpretation of his eyes and the quote for your last section. I love how artistic the movie is that so much of the imagery is open to interpretation. One line can have so many layers of meaning.
Nice video. It was a bit of a mess in terms of the timeline considering you mentioned the end of the movie in the middle of the video for example, but it's still a good video.
