I graduated from imperial 11 years ago. My first job offer when I was back to HK was only HK$14k per month to join a bank or $8k for an engineer job in China. Thankfully, things changed over my last 10 years of career, at least I got a respectful pay at this point as being a management consultant. Starting salary meant less significance in your early career, choosing a right career path and having a good boss definitely are the keys.
Base London, taxes are generally halved and rent is paid and there is little left over. My personal experience is that people who can earn a high salary in London are very likely to get a higher take-home pay and a better quality of life for value in any developed city
The certificate from a famous uni will give you a good chance for an interview, after that, it all depends on the ability of the individuals in getting the job, and subsequent promotion in career.
Great video, I miss UCL 😊 such a fun place. Good to know what you study there matters later on in life, so try to choose the right field. And yea you are almost guaranteed a good job graduating from both of these universities.
My cousins graduated from Imperial, Warwick, Manchester and LSE and they are doing very well in their career. So I would say its worth the money in my humble opinion. I, on the other hand, don't have the privilege of entering a top tier uni 😂 so i told my parents i would just study a degree for the sake of getting one
I'm glad I studied in Italy in a good university with what I feel was very good/professional teaching for 1,000 Euro a year otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it. The last year in University I've even got a grant when I was writing my thesis in mainland China. Now I live in Hong Kong and it was definitely worth it. Best years of my life. If I were younger (30 when I started off) I would have probably continued to study. Would have earned less but I'd probably have loved it anyway. 人才济济 情同手足 😂Unfortunately education became a business too, all these MBA with ridiculous fee or these ranking which always see UK/US universities on top do not make much sense in my opinion. I’ve seen so many young people who graduated from not a very popular university in U.K. or elsewhere, who likewise made it big in their skill field. I don’t really think that the university you came from matters, it all boils down first to skills that are in demand, your attitude in work and life, EQ and luck in life.
Well, it matters greatly. In popular universities you have better educational resources (lectures, study sessions, career fairs) and you are surrounded by some of smartest minds, you are basically set if you have talent and are hard working. In comparison, you must study really hard in a lower tier university and face situations where you are the best yet do not have environment to grow. You may not have so many good career fairs or networking opportunities than top university, and knowledge gap will compound over time. In short, high level education matters, statistically at the very least.
