Autistic Girl Labeled An Emotion With Her Own Vocal Word

You might read the title and think, it is not uncommon for someone with autism to label an emotion. For her, this is huge.
Our daughter is 10 years old and is diagnosed with autism and a language disorder. We have been helping her work on communication for over 8 years. Just recently, she started using more unprompted vocal words. Another area we have been working on for years is identifying and labeling emotions.
The moment she labels happy as the way she was feeling was a result of all those years of helping her. This one small spontaneous word was is the result and it was everything!
She told us she was happy with her own word!!!
