I've been managing a Fishing Store in the UK for the last 10 years. I love this game, the mechanics are great and the its nice to the that the small details that we anglers think about have been engineered into the game

Squirrel missed showing a few things about the game in this first look such as how right-mouse pulls the pole back, gold coins are earned through leveling, challenges, and "unique" fish, and every day at midnight you can choose to stay longer or leave.

A real truck driver will be face palming at Euro Truck Simulator and a real member of a counter terrorist unit will be face palming at Rainbow Six Siege. Ultimately a video game can never really represent reality. I mean come on it is a game.

it would be cool to see a series of this. for example you could spend the week at a place fishing and just film everything that happens and then upload each day of the fishing each day IRL. it would be like a big fishing trip.

I fish in real life for over 60 years. This game is pretty good. And kudos to Squirrel for this very informative video. Very nicely presented for someone not into fishing that much.

this sim has great potential, i am an experienced angler living in Southern Ontario, Canada, where we fish for many species. One suggestion would be to have sound effects when fighting
the fish, if the drag is allowing line to be let out, there usually is a lot of sound with it, in real life.

This game calls the fishing spot in Alaska "Kaniq Creek" which is pretty close to what it's referencing: Knik River. Also pronounced "Kanik"

The times to catch Bass on here is definitely wrong unless it's rainy if you ask me. 10AM to 4PM is like the worst times in most places. Not to mention the bait set up unless you are fishing with minnows.

Sometimes it's just not possible. If I had a dollar for every time I have wanted to go fishing but was unable to because of life commitments, I'd be a millionaire.
jdz1989 Fair enough. But you can´t compare going fishing to driving a truck. Driving a truck involves an age limit, have to get a license, and getting a job in the business. To fish you can simply buy the equipment and go do it. I would rather do something IRL than in a simulator. If you really wanted to go fishing a few times this year you could. Not the same with driving a truck or flying a plane etc.
+GustavLjungberg in many countries you need a license to go fishing just like hunting. Also some people might live too far from a fishing spot or simply cant afford the equipment. But I agree you cant replace doing something IRL with a simulator

Thank you Squirrel for that great video. I'm one of those who do fish in real life, started when I was 8 y.o. and I'm 33 now.., but unfortunately work tends to be too time-consuming, and that is when this kind of fishing fits perfect : D

I've nvr even fish before and it's not really an interest of mine but i was so focus on the video and like supporting you to get those fishes! hahaha. It's an awesome relaxing game for sure. That last battle was intense! Love this vid mate.

In Michigan your pike would be to small to keep under the size limit, you would have to throw that one back. Funny how carp are the thing that a lot of people fish for in the UK. So many restrictions there. Come to Michigan Paul, we will go out on Lake Michigan on a charter boat.

walleye can be fished with a lot of things, bait, jigs, crank baits, spoons , plugs, spinners etc...
Bass will also hit spoons.
You mentioned the stop and go method on your spoon, I do fish a lot when I have the time to, In real life of course haha, I actualy fish like that a lot, And have caught a different variety of fish. It's a lot funner then a hook with worm on it and a bobber!

I looked around a bit, but didn't see any response to your comment about the funny, green piece of clothing at the start of the video.. As a fly fisherman, I recognize the thing as a (commonly called) Fly Vest. As fly fisher folk do not generally carry around "tackle boxes", they will carry a few fly boxes, instead. These fly boxes are, quite often, carrying flies which target different fish (Trout, Salmon, etc... {fresh water species} and Striped Bass, Bluefish, etc... {salt water species}). Loads of fun on a light rod!

Fishing Planet actually helped me in fishing in rl because I was really terrible but a game like this can really help you and correct you in the way you are fishing

actually bass find and make nests for breeding and they lay their eggs in the spring and if you get your bait near a nest they will eat it they are very teretorial

I remember the first time I fished ( as a kid ) my dad let me cast so I did it and kind of got it stuck in a bush or tree behind me xD
My nephew always like to watch me play my PC or try to play it himself. Unfortunately he isn't allowed to play mature games anymore due to some trouble he got in. He loves to fish and hunt sometimes so I think this'll be perfect for him when he comes up. He is 8 years old by the way.

I just found this game on Steam and think you're doing a dandy job of explaining things on how this works as well as fishing in the game.
lul, 1,3kg pike is VERY small, about 3-4 is the normal size here in sweden i'd say, but they can grow a bit over 20 kilos
Hey man, this game appears to replicate real fishing really well and since it does, I recommend giving the lake at 36:18 a go around 5-6 in the morning instead of 10 am.
You may have tried this and I missed it, but if you haven't I'd give it a try. In general, where I fish on the Great Lakes, the fish come out hard just before sunrise.
that northern is actually pretty small. If you want to catch a bigger fish get stronger line, a stronger pole and reel.

Buggy physics at 20:44 - yanking the fish clear across the screen and then it continues to fight as if nothing happened! Try doing that in real life - you'll kill either the fish or someone around you.
Being an angler myself, I can say that this game is very close to real life fishing. I just wish there were more hard baits, fake baits, and name brands would be nice.
stringers hang in the water. as long as you just troll nice the fish just cruise around with you, they cant get off if you hook the jaw. we pull them out while we move and immediatly drop them back in the water when we stop.
A casting rid is designed to cast obviously, but that's not why it's called a casting rod. It's called a casting rod because it is fitted for a baitcaster reel

hi squirrel this video helped me out alot on starting out on this game and it is hard to start of with but once you know when you know the basics it dose become easy
Great intro for that game. Got it a few days ago, vid helped me out quite a bit. They did a good job, about as good as a sim can get for fishing.
Reminds me of SEGA's arcade fishing game at the former ESPNZone at the Baltimore Inner Harbor from a few years ago. The final challenge was - pardon the pun - reel-y challenging. ^^;
