I keep coming back to watch this performance. It makes me feel old and nostalgic, knowing this was 11 years ago (as of Jan 2022). I was 25 watching this in awe, now I’m 36 and still in awe, but man does it make me feel old and nostalgic all at once. This is Florence at her peak, I wonder how she feels watching this back 11 years later, hopefully old and nostalgic. And did I mention those legs - wow and double wow.
How in the world does this only have 71+ views? I would love to see her live, this is truly an incredible performance, her band & back-up singers are tight, & her voice is just amazing!!
Gordon Harvey The other clip is actually from a separate webcast performance from the "Live on Letterman" series, which was broadcast following this performance on the Letterman show. They do look quite similar (they're both from the same day), but they are two separate performances, both fantastic.
"Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too So I stayed in the darkness with you." Goosebumps all over at 2:55, when the drums sounds like heartbeats.
she's one of those singers that can do an amazing job in the cd and also live, and this is the kind of thing thats becoming rare! Love Florence and The Machine
I watched the whole thing trying to see what people are talking about with the backup singer, and I can tell people just like to hate. The volume of the singers is in line with the album version.
This is one of the best renditions of Cosmic Love. I love the primal aspect of the drums and the scaled-down effects. It brings her natural artistry out even more! :)
Her voice is so powerful! When i first heard this song it blew me away. That dosent happen very often with music these days. I hope she will win for best new artist at the grammys. Maybe she wont be robbed like lady gaga was. I also was happy when Adele won she deserved it. Listen to her song someone like you on jools holland. It is crazy good!
The blend of voice and back-vocals, the ooo-ooo-ooo chorus, very original, extremely well performed. How many songs can you write about the moon, the stars, the heart, etc? It seems the well hasn't dried out yet, but this is a fine, a very fine example. A piece of art!
I love them, such a talented band, they deserve more recognition from all around the world, they are definitely my favorite new band (My all time favorites are Muse and Nirvana lol )
I just find it so tasteless how there has to be disrespect in the beginning of the amazing show. I bet he regretted saying that. The whole machine worked flawless and Florence was a pure talent and grace.
I don't think i've ever NOT heard her sing anything live, Everything I've heard her perform seems to have the little imperfections and differences that mark a live performance from a lipsync
Do ya think that Ms. Welch listened to any Kate Bush as she defined her sound? God Bless You, Florence - you have succeeded in keeping the Dream alive, and introducing it to whole new generation of listeners.
She was trembling the entire time the poor thing. Marvelous performance however, maybe even her best of this song. On a side note, her face at 4:04 gave me goosebumps, she looks like she on a completely different planet. Amazing artist.
I think I will actually shed a single tear when this wonderful miss loses to one of the terrible non-entities she's up against at the Grammys. Florence Welch is hope that talent and composition can still be valued in popular music.
If I lived back in the Greek mythological times and I were on a mission, I would hope I would never hear Florence's voice. I would DEFINITELY steer my ship her way, if I did.
XanArt21 what? they're great. quite honestly, she's almost always more out of tune then her backing singers.. great version tho, much better than the recent ones.
I agree w/charlie z. They are fantastic. Their intonation is rock solid which allows Flo to go in and out of pitch at will. That's what makes her stand out. I can't get enough of this.
@10aces no idea. I saw this live and was so happy to see she was on the show. Didn't care for the performance at all, sadly. She's normally great. Those backup singers are just...you know....complete shit.
ahahhhaahahhahaha... love mister letterman but tnx, insert a quarter while your talent is 100% eclipsed. feel free to knock out some strong knock knock jokes :)
The backup singers in this don't mesh at all with the song. This isn't R&B but they're singing it like it's a Mariah Carey song or something. I think two or three backup singers that aren't R&B singers would have been much better.
I have no idea who you are but you’re right your mind this song was so well done your nuts get off the page buddy you’re ridiculous to even say that about this song. This is probably the best version of this song I’ve seen Florence and the machine in concert in this version on Letterman was one of the best ever so your comment sucks
You are ridiculous dude your comment is out of line !!! I be seen this band in concert and this version of Cosmic love was one of the best, bye bye shihead
The back-up singers don't sing louder, they did marvelously what the had to do, this is the result of the guy at the mixing board. To my ear, it's excellent for a TV mix.
I saw this the first time it came on and immediately went to youtube to look them up having never heard them before. the album/vidoe version sounds like regular euro pop emo trash, but live...oh my god...it is wonderful! thanks for the post!
I love how she makes use of so many different instruments and sounds with her music. Its so different from mainstream bands.

This is probably my favorite song of hers

There is another clip of this

How can you not fall in love with her?

They sound like what the guy at the board wants them to sound like, but to me they sound... perfect for the job.
i can't get enough of this song. first song i heard from her and i was thoroughly impressed; blown away.
Legs for daysssss

I haven't been this excited about a musician in a long time. She is a Goddess. The songs are perfection.
Definitely one of the best versions of this song , and I’ve seen her in concert, this is the balls …….❤❤❤❤
When that bass comes on at 1:27 - eargasm.
Absolutely beautiful. Such a beautiful voice and the vibrato in her voice is just amazing.

love how this song has no dislikes because it never should,
Florence i love u!
ITS BEEN DETERMINED there is no cure for the addiction to Florence ,and i,m hooked .......hello my fellow addicts +_+
To be honest, I think she could have done without the backup singers because she sounded so beautiful just by herself!
Flawless
When he said "Florence and the Machine" my laptop stuttered so it said "Florence and the Machhhhhhhiiiiinnnnnnnneeeeee!" haha
She got the high notes perfectly! Wow! Amazing!
Am I the only one who loves the fact that she's so awkward yet so talented and artistic?
I love them, such a talented band, they deserve more recognition from all around the world, they are definitely my favorite new band (My all time favorites are Muse and Nirvana lol )
Wow. Amazing. Speechless.
Omg she is so good live
And, as you can see, when she sings at live is AMAZING!
WOW BEAUTIFUL~
Florence is amazing. the background sings detracted. That says a lot about her power and prowess.
i hate the backup singers, she amazing enough
I agree!
Abdullah Sultan they shouldve found backup singers to match flos voice other than that amazing performance though :)
I love Florance and the machine! I mean, no one else has a harp!
I just find it so tasteless how there has to be disrespect in the beginning of the amazing show. I bet he regretted saying that. The whole machine worked flawless and Florence was a pure talent and grace.
It's not that serious.
He is a fucking Dickhead....thanks goodness he has gone !!!!!
FLORENCE IS ANGEL
ladies and gentlemen the 8th wonder of this world !
EPIC.
I don't think i've ever NOT heard her sing anything live, Everything I've heard her perform seems to have the little imperfections and differences that mark a live performance from a lipsync

angel voices
rocks
those legs kill, almost as her voice ;)!
you have to love flo, shes keeping real muic alive!
@elmorse How is Letterman lame? He voices a since amazement at the performance - says exactly what I was thinking - when the song is done.
Im in love with this song and her Jacket or i dont know what it is! :( i think its versace but i cant find it i want that:(
Preciosa! ♥

OMG!! She has legs like a barbie doll!! Actually prettier...
And of course she has an amazing voice
She's even better live
208 likes 1 dislike? I wonder why...
I actually thought Letterman was going to make an introduction without cracking one of his terrible jokes... I was wrong.
wtf's wih the backup singers????
other than that, she's incredible
Excuse me! I thought it was Florence + The Machine not Florence + UB40 e.e
Daniel Ramsés Heiner-Martínez HAHAH x'D
I'm just sayin her voice is great... and yes I did use some generalisation for it. Whatever...
im jealous of her voice and her legs :|
Her voice has a Bjork tone in this one
If I lived back in the Greek mythological times and I were on a mission, I would hope I would never hear Florence's voice. I would DEFINITELY steer my ship her way, if I did.
She could cover White Rabbit I would imagine very well.
one dislike? what a lonely person....
look at gabriel dante rosetti, his wife and muse lizzie siddal. she looks just like her.
@hewolfdanz Para Naadaa.. es tan Mujer. Su Caraa es re Lindaa. No estoy de Acuerdo en con lo qe piensas ;)
The backgroundsingers ruin this
XanArt21 what? they're great. quite honestly, she's almost always more out of tune then her backing singers.. great version tho, much better than the recent ones.

they're so talented but i wolud like her to use more strength in her performances like before
ahahhhaahahhahaha... love mister letterman but tnx, insert a quarter while your talent is 100% eclipsed. feel free to knock out some strong knock knock jokes :)
Um...not sure what your point is here?!
David Letterman is so lame.... additionally, amazing song.
those backing vocals make me sick. 1.) Because someone doesn't know what BACKING vocals are, and 2.) They don't even work with this song!
@fraq81 yup. it's still not funny.
The backup singers in this don't mesh at all with the song. This isn't R&B but they're singing it like it's a Mariah Carey song or something. I think two or three backup singers that aren't R&B singers would have been much better.

The backup singers did nothing for her😬
@thumbalinaaaaax you do know he's aware how corny and stupid the joke is right ?
Odd and silly overgeneralisation. Still don't get your point.
Can the backup singers please be BACKUP SINGERS and not try to overpower Florence
The back-up singers don't sing louder, they did marvelously what the had to do, this is the result of the guy at the mixing board. To my ear, it's excellent for a TV mix.
En usko, että meillä Suomessa on, että
Ladies and Gentlemen: This is a white woman with black background singers. Amen.
Normally it's the black people with the better voices.
umm david your not funny...
Letterman is so lame.
@JeMiero I don't get it. She was born as a man WTF? O.o
I saw this the first time it came on and immediately went to youtube to look them up having never heard them before. the album/vidoe version sounds like regular euro pop emo trash, but live...oh my god...it is wonderful! thanks for the post!
Love her voice and look at those legs! Wow :)
