Does Jerry have any books? I enjoy his interviews on skagit and his journey with George Cook and Ed Ward if not he should make a book. I know they all work for different companies and probably have different philosophical differences on why they split but damn that was cool. I fished spin rods for 24 years switched to fly last 3 went from overhead lines that I found impractical being in Appalachia Pennsylvania, then I went to a commando skagit head 175 and it blew my mind, went to nymphing but always loved spey casting and when I realized I could skagit cast a mono rig it was like oh I need a two hander. Is funny how we grow as we learn to make things work. It has been a fun journey with not the biggest trophy smallies or trout but been a grand one.

I was in Alaska many years ago fishing silvers and one of the people I fished with at the lodge was fishing a two handed 6wt rod .He showed me some casts and gave me the basic rundown of how this all worked since them I have become an addict . Since then just about all my fishing is done with a two handed rod or single hand with Skagit head . Jerry and his group have really changed the way I tie also , Intruders from large to small and as Jerry said 2.5” to 3” seams to be the sweet spot . It’s just fun tying them , building composite loops , using all the new materials that shed water so your not throwing a wet sock , new hook designs and now tube flies . Living in Montana is a great place to put this all to use . Cant thank the crew at OPST enough for there innovative thinking and helpfulness when it’s comes to helping you get the right line for the right rod . Look what they have done since this video was published , incredible.
    Thanks

Great interview Jon, Jerry and his partners in crime have done so much for a lot of us just starting out in this sport of two hand fishing. Being a spoon and spinner guy for years and swinging blades made the transition to intruder style fishing a bit quicker than most. I've hooked several large steelhead now on the fly and it's a result of their tutorials on how to tie intruders style flies and casting these compact skagit heads. Living in WA state I fish a lot of the same rivers as Jerry and hope to meet him someday and thank him in person.
Jon kudos to you as well for your casting videos which have taught me more than you can imagine with a two handed spey. Cheers and tightlines both of you! I always knew Dax was a Keystone man! LOL

Thanks for watching steelyfisher! It was fun to interview Jerry and hear about the history of the Intruder and how it has changed our part of the sport.
Dax is really a Coors Light man, but his alter ego is definitely on par with Keith Stone!

Why do I believe you when you say Dax is truly Keith Stone! LOL I do agree that he does fit in well on the OP!

Those boys really did change the game. I live in Ohio, right by the western basin of lake Erie. I fish around here mainly for pike and smallmouth, and go up to MI to trout fish, along with steelhead fishing our "Steelhead Alley." For me its all about efficiency. With smallmouth and pike fishing we consistently fish large flies, and shooting head fly lines sometimes with some heavy sink tips, which is all fine and dandy however being able to make one spey cast, and have it pick up a large fly with a sink tip with ease saves my arm, and means less time false casting having the fly in the air and more time having the fly in the water. Thanks so much guys!!!!

Interesting to me that I was thinking about some tight places where a scandi head would be pretty killer for carp. Then he brings up guys doing it in Montana.

Tippet through a front loop, along the fly then out a back loop to the hook
