I might be wrong but a cheaper option might have been recorded delivery. If no one is in and no signature is obtained then the parcel is taken back to the depot to await collection. Just from experience but not sure that's correct.
Postman ARE NOT allowed to leave parcels ANYWHERE without you giving them a safe place that comes up on their PDA machine. And that is only at the discretion of the postal worker if they deem it a safe place.Being a postman i would not leave a parcel anywhere. This is called door stepping, which we are not allowed to do.Royal mail policy.
I can't believe the barrister claims ''all postmen are honest people'' 😅. I had the same treatment from Royal Mail for my lost parcel sent by first class signed for service , and I also got an insulting compensation in the form of their stamps. They now do it regardless of insurance!
I don't think its acceptable for Royal Mail to leave an item outside and consider it successfully delivered. Either deliver to the recipient or to a nearby neighbour. If neither of these is possible then return to the delivery office to allow the recipient to pickup at a later date. That said I recommend using the appropriate service to cover the value of the item if it is lost or damaged in transit. Royal Mail Special Delivery next day is an excellent service and insures items upto £500.
My story is special delivery postage bought an iPhone 14 pro max 1tb for £1,500 off of eBay. The item was apparently attempted to be delivered but missed with no note left and sent back to the local depot. Then signed for and picked up by another local person under a different name. eBay want a non-delivery document which so far I’ve been unsuccessful in getting from Royal Mail. That’s all they require for a 30 day money back guarantee. I’ve telephoned and emailed them to no avail as yet, also went to the local depot to find out more information and they have asked me to return as it was quite busy and tomorrow they’ll take another look into it. The manager has been notified but still I have not been able to get my money back or understand exactly how this has happened.
You can raise a complaint with Royal Mail but they will, from my experience either ignore you or ask you to fill out a form, submit it with evidence to their freepost address and then conveniently lose both the form and the only acceptable evidence of posting, leaving you with nothing.
The Royal Mail Management in 2023 have destroyed the service with brutal revisions of walks which have made many walks completely unachievable with brutal workloads 😢
Royal mail has lost my parcels this week and cost me £250 in fees to refund on ebay and £250 worth of items lost....can only claim compensation if you have the receipt from what they cost you. But they dont even do that. Theyre just usless and ruined my whole christmas. Now im gonna be skint. Really angry
NO, the moral is hunt down the person who stole it like a dog. Not act like they are invisible. (and hence protect them) , Stop tolerating these people in society; put a ))) to their head, pull the ))) .
Absolutely. Royal Mail are using agency staff, who are not vetted. Guaranteed high value insured packages are being opened in transit and the contents stolen, being replaced with other mail ransacked from mail bags.
Come on LBC, give an accurate advice. Not signed £20 compensation, signed for £50 compensation, special delivery £500 compensation, tracked 24 or 48 £150 compensation. You will need a proof of postage and proof of value.

The royal mail are not as good as you think we have had 20 postmen over the past 12 months and only 1 could speak English and they leave parcels all over the property we have cameras everywhere and have caught 5 who delivered them and left them in the garden then a person came back 10 minutes later and took them but our cameras found they were together one delivered one stole them then we had the ones placed them at the front door took a picture but picked the parcel up after the photo and left with it so not as honest as you would believe and one thing in common with the missing parcels is they were not English citizens and I'm not being racist as I have the audio/video evidence that was used to take the P.O to court but they settled first so there was no publicity.

if I recall, if you have proof of purchase, you can claim the cost of the postage and up to £20 for normal 1st class post.
I used to work with royal mail, I seen theft happening reported it and was victimised and bullied and just eventually left

On the Royal Mail website, it tells you what you will get depending on what proof you provide. They should have checked that when they made the claim.
