So while post office is embroiled in a mass financial scandal and sending innocent people to jail, they are selling counterfeit stamps to customers then expecting the customer to pay £5 fine for buying a counterfeit stamp from them?! And no one investigating this doesn’t see the issue here?! Any other outlet would probably be done for selling counterfeit goods…but the post office can do this AND charge the victims😂
Different company, and according to Royal Mail, they can and do buy their stamps from anywhere, see my post above that (for search purposes) starts with "Whether Chinese fake stamps or not, Royal Mail has entirely stopped my whole family from ever buying any stamps again", and posted a minute ago.

Post offices are franchises. Likely the owner obtained fake stamps either knowingly to make more coin or bought them via a 3rd party thinking they were legitimate stamps.
I had the same problem. Bought stamps from a post office, and one of them was deemed to be a fake one. A customers order didn't get there as the item was returned to me. I had to chase The Post Office for thr costs. The post office counter wasn't too happy when I told them what had happened. A big cover-up again?
How do fake stamps get into the post office retail system?? Surely post offices can only buy them direct from the post office, and they in turn must be sourcing them from the official printing company? Ultimately though, even if it is a Chinese scam, it's hardly going to threaten the UK economy. So, until it's sorted, buy postage online and print your own labels.

I think this is bigger than it seems... I used to buy very cheap electronic items, via eBay, directly from China. I noticed a lot of the stuff is fake; Micro SD Cards, USB Flash Drives, etc. By the time most users have figured out that the "64GB" (actually just 1GB) storage device starts rewriting over their important files, the "return by" date has already passed. So the user can't get a refund for the fake item, which means that China can dump all of their old junk 1GB storage devices in Britain and get paid for it.
You can not have half falke and half genuine in the same booklet. Aint no counterfitter gonna bother with that. Its not worth the time and effort. There point is to make a profit...not a loss.

They try it on with businesses too. Claiming things are not franked correctly and then asking the businesses and sender or recipient to pay a fee. They have photographs of every single item of mail going back years and can tell exactly where mail has entered and left the system. Microdots on old stamps meant tracking people that used to peel them off and keep using them. The barcode could have been put around the edge.
My husband swopped out some stamps, so the new digital stamps came FROM the post office, and two people we sent things to were charged. It appeared that someone in the Nottinham sorting office ad not been properly changed.
At least one person in the supply chain or official outlets are allowing the fakes in. I would have thought that stamps would have had the same level of security as money, and be traceable from the source to the official outlets.
Mild news really.... I don't recall a report on fake rolex watches or iffy Levis . After all it is just another business fraud, not the problem of the end user but somehow they make it that way
Another issue is that if a fake stamp is used that bar-code number is used -for ever. SO if a real stamp with that code comes up later that bar-code was already used so the real stamp will be "already used" by a fake stamp.
I bought 20 1st class ones off ebay, had to pay to get them off the post office as the dumb seller used a fake one on the envelope he used to send them. Got a full refund
IDS knows everything! GB News! Go! Go! Go! Didn't the post office contracted out the printing of stamps... These stamps are only a little dodgy... Multi million racket...... Distributors required......
Just ban all online sales unless from post office or post office online. But the fact that genuine stamps are failing qr checks due to minor misprint or damage means the system in place is not suitable given the ongoing trust issue Royal Mail must be forced to backtrack until other safeguards are implemented to prevent errors like genuine purchases being flagged as suspicious are resolved

Oh great! Attack your postman who has nothing to do with the fake stamps. As if they have the time to inspect stamps on an envelope. Instead of sounding like an imbecile, why don’t you work as a postman to give you an idea of what this job is like in reality. You wouldn’t last a week.

Royal Mail at it again.
If the stamps are bought from a Post Office....they can stick their 5 quid charge.
Unbelievable.

Royal Mail and the Post Office are different companies, it surprised me as well as Royal Mail stole my stamps that were bought from Post Offices.!
Report them to that Chinese police station in London
😂👌
They are all over the west. Chin4 makes all the counterfeit money and everything else.
Probably get more action from the Chinese, than our local Bobbie's 😂😂
How can stamps bought at a post office be fake? So if I receive a random letter with a fake one I'll be charged 5 quid, no way..
They found a brilliant way to overcharge £5.😅

Simon Thompson has done more damage to Royal Mail than the Chinese could ever do

This needs to be stamped out
We are in a post war era.

When the post office cant even identify genuine stamps, there is a serious issue of technical and managerial credibility!
Hope the Royal Mail aren't trying to charge people into paying for their fines!
Selling forgeries is illegal, we need the police to go arrest the post office staff
But why are the charging 5£ to receive a basic letter
Greed
Great excuse for post office

So what, nothing will be done about it like everything else in this country, they'll blow a lot of hot air talking it then move on.
About time they stopped them using the word "Royal" in their name 🤨

Do they have a made in China logo on them? 😂
😳.. How on Earth has this happened 🤷🤦
I have stamps replaced last year direct from the post office exchange old for new and some of them have flat bar codes these are large letter stamps😮
Right....stamps bought from an actual PO are being used and the person receiving it has to pay for this? Hmmm

Is China trying to buy Royal Mail. Cheaply
I thought the point of the QR code was to prevent fraud?
Over reliance on technology leads to fraud.
its causing read errors
definitely doesn’t smell like a major deflection from current events at the RM 😂

Cant remember the last time I bought a stamp, 5+ years ago!!
The older non barcoded stamps were better. Why barcode them? Excuse to say used or fake.

Why not do an audit trail on the stamps and go back through the supply chain to identify the actual source. This is not rocket science.
EBay is awash with "replica" barcoded stamps. Royal Mail's solution seems to be to simply hike the cost of real stamps!

Stamp prices are horrendous, I don’t blame fakers

I don't get why this is suddenly an issue though? Surely it would have been easier to fake _before_ the QR code was added?
You don't know that previous successful counterfeiting didn't take place. Successful, as in not previously detected.
It is disgraceful that people RECEIVING fake stamp letters, have to pay a £5 charge. I would tell the Postman where he/she an put it.
