Feeling lonely is the last thing on my mind? Why? Because even when I’m alone, I never felt lonely. Loneliness is a perception. Sometimes you’re with other people, but you still feel all alone. Sometimes you’re all by yourself but you feel so complete:)
I get anxious making decisions that affect other people so tend to be irritatingly passive when travelling with others. Went on my first solo holiday last year, OMFG THE BEST!! When it’s just me I am not afraid to do the things that I want to do because there’s no worrying that the other person will be bored or would prefer to be spending time doing something else. I had somebody tell me recently that it’s “a bit strange” that I like to travel alone. I responded that what I think is “a bit strange” is sitting around doing nothing because you’re waiting to find somebody on the same page as you. Just go out and do what you want! ❤️
I have always traveled alone. I would not want the responsibility of traveling with someone else. I wanted to travel to Alaska with friends a long time ago. I took the trip alone, they spent their money on beer and things.
Been to Iceland, Scotland, England, Ireland, France, Spain.. by myself. It’s the best way to travel. Don’t be scared. Nothing bad is gonna happen. If something bad happen, you’ll learn.
The freedom of just you and your backpack, your independence, and no one else is second to none. Everyone should try solo travel. Don't hang around waiting for other people otherwise you'll never go. Just book your ticket and go. What are you waiting for?
I always feel nervous when I'm travelling alone, but nothing really bad ever happened to me. I love travelling alone especially to help my social anxiety which is quite intense. It forces me to talk to people even if its just asking to check in at a hostel (this makes me unnecessarily nervous). But I could not be more proud of myself for travelling alone at least once a year. I rarely make friends because I simply can not talk to strangers (if not absolutely necessary) but its okey - one day I will :)
i LOVE solo travel, have done it multiple times (not anywhere to far from home though ) and the BIGGEST problem i have is not having anyone to take your pictures so i ended up with about 1500 ugly selfies lmaoo
When i first started travelling i found myself just hanging around with people from the hostel that i knew I wasn't really compatible with just to avoid being on my own. These days though i just wait, sometimes it takes a few days before i found people i really like, its the best way! I think you're just gotta wait it out and talk to as many people as you can.
Last year my flight got cancelled twice so Delta gave us vouchers and then told me this year I have to use the vouchers by April so looks like I'm going around Europe for a month by myself!!! :) Planned like a quarter of it!
Have done a bit of solo travel, and for me, the biggest challenge is breaking out of my comfort zone and talking to people - especially in a new country. I don't think loneliness is too much of an issue (helps to be an introvert!) But sometimes I did feel the pressure to "make friends" becoase that's what you are "supposed" to do in a hostel. And it's not that I did not want to, but I think I am just one of those people who takes more time to open up to people :)
Probably the most important piece of advice on here: Turning negativity into something positive. Is this fear I'm feeling; or is this just excitement masked as fear?
Thank you guys so much! I have just binged watched both of your channels and I feel so much more relaxed about going on my solo European 4 month adventure!
5 years later and this video is still relevant. I'm challenging myself to travel and solo sounded a bit overwhelming. I did a ton of research already and for a few moments I reconsidered just booking a tour with EF. You both changed my mind - feeling more confident and excited to just book and go solo. Kudos to all of you traveling this summer!
Thank you for those great tips! I'll be traveling for the first time Southeast Asia for 5 months alone soon, I'm so excited, a bit scared and also happy to have your videos to help me! :)
I've just booked my first backpacking trip and I'm going on my own because no one fancied coming and I thought 'sod it'. I've been watching your vids and it's really dispelling a lot of my fears! x
I’m about to go on my first solo travel and I’m so excited!!!! I graduated college last year and I have been looking forward to having the time to travel all around the world and I can’t wait to start!!!!
First trip anywhere out of new Zealand solo travel to Switzerland and Germany for 3 months, (no tour, no planning just landed in Zurich) I didn’t speak German or French, but I recommend just go out and get it you’ll have the experience of a lifetime it’s a mission that’s for sure, but you’ll cope and meet some amazing people along the way
Am about to go on my first ever backpacking trip in Australia solo soon so this video came at the perfect time and was so helpful. I've loved all your videos on Australia, really inspired me to go for it and book my plane ticket. Beyond excited to get out there!
Solo travelling makes a person more confident. Language is no longer a problem with google translator. Loneliness does not become an issue if you are a sociable. Loneliness is only a problem for people who are antisocial or introverts and that can happen anywhere.
personally, I felt very well, everything is about your attitude I went to Lombok (Indonesia), you meet a lot of people and the thing is one day you are going to have dinner with somebody and the next day have lunch with someone else, and the thing that you say is true some friends have to go together everywhere and sometimes you do not want to go there, the only thing that I have to say is you are a "Mamacita Molly"
Backpackers chicks, on balance, tend to pair off together in twos for their travels. Its some sort of soul mate thing. Some will be in larger troupes or with boyfriends but most pair off with another female.
I love to travel alone I like to relax go to the spa and it you meet someone your free to you know I did Colombia alone my second time Germany and Poland I did alone but I met people to hang out with and I didn’t stay at a hostel because I’m a bit of a diva.
This might seem like a silly question, but along w smiling to make friends, is it possible that if you're too friendly ie: "too smiley", you could attract the wrong attention? I'm just afraid of people. Lol
i think the best thing to do is to go solo to a country u have been to before or hotel u have been to before with someone. thats what im going to do. like i have been spain, jamaica, greece, turkey and Fuerteventura with family before, so im going to go to one of these countries solo first i would stick to a short flight to start off with first.
u can use the "hang out" option at couchsurfing to meet people in town, or facebook groups like the solo female traveler network or host a sister to find people to go out!
You guys are such fun and I agree being blonde in the Philippines you stand out so bad how do you deal with that? Do you have any suggestions for LGBT traveller’s?
So I am gonna Solo travel Europe in April. Never been outside of the US. The one thing Im worried about is my laptop. Would I be better off keeping it in my air B&B while I am exploring, or just carry it with me all the time?
It depends of where you travel in Europe but as a Belgian I can tell you that most of european countries are pretty safe. You just need to stay careful, like everywhere else (:
Interesting videos, never travelled long haul by myself , before done plenty of solo travel in the UK but it's very expensive as I normally stay in hotels!!
I was planning on going to Italy in May or June. I was wondering if I could find a hostle in each of the bigger cities so I can stay in a few. I ask this thinking of Italy as like the USA in size and getting around everywhere even though I know it is alot smaller lol.
Ravens if you try hostelworld.com you can search each city that you are going to and it will bring up every hostel in the area!! Also there should be busses or lots of trains around so you can get from each city, it’s pretty easy to get around tbh
City tours are beneficial as you learn something of the place you are visiting and it doesn't cost more than a token price. If you enjoy it you can pay for a more intensive tour.
Was also planning on traveling to Australia but i am concerned about their lockout laws. Did you notice the difference in nightlife with the lockout laws?

There's a famous quote by Sartre: "If you're lonely when you're alone, you're in bad company"

I definitely agree with you on this, Rob.

Natalya Župan hey Natalya! Our small group tours offers a built-in community when you want it, but offers lots of freedom too!! www.LegitTrips.com 🙌
u can use the "hang out" option at couchsurfing to meet people in town, or facebook groups like the solo female traveler network or host a sister to find people to go out!
