  • WORDS: Written in 1855 by Church of Scotland Minister Horatius Bonar, born in Edinburgh: the hymn was commissioned for use at Communion services by his elder brother, Dr John James Bonar, Minister of St. Andrew's Free Church, Greenock
    MUSIC: ‘St Agnes’ (also known as Langran), composed in 1862 by London organist James Langran; by far the best-known of his 50 hymn tunes.
