    My first orchid ever was a paph, I kept looking at one at my local greenhouse and my boyfriend surprised me with it for valentines. Now I have eight…
    Also, I discovered your channel when I was looking for how to care for that first paph!

    Wonderful! This is such perfect timing! I got my first paph recently and I’m waiting to repot until the flower fades. It’s potted high in the pot, and the pot is opaque black, so I can’t wait to repot! Thank you for such a great video!

    I like a mix of bark with a little sphagnum, and some wood charcoal. The charcoal seems to really help - maybe it helps prevent the mix from going acid.

    I ordered my first paph. (Paph. Yi-Ying Santa Claus - In Spike) 2 days ago and I can't wait to receive it!
    It looks so prety on the nursery website... let's hope I don't kill it somehow!
    That's why I'm doing my homeworks and reserching on paph. as much as possible before I get it!

    Your videos on Paphs inspire me - I slowly lost a couple years back and now I know that I needed to pot them lower in the pot so the new roots would grow. I'm going to look to get some more!
    Next I need to learn more about Phragmipediums and Oncidiums!

      @@MissOrchidGirl I've really been enjoying watching your videos. I moved a couple of years ago and due to healing from an injury and various "getting older" ailments, some of my poor orchids haven't been re-potted for years! Fortunately they love my new climate and the Phals just don't stop blooming. Now that I have more humidity (and have learned more about some of the genera), I'm excited about trying new things!
      I appreciate your kindness. :)

    I really like the amount of knowledge that you share with us and I can see that you have invested a lot in your filming gedgets too. But, it may be better that you have a different top on ao that the colours of the plants/ flowers can stand out better. 😊

    I have a little Paph. argus, that for some reason, has started growing a new fan like half way up the axis of the older growth. I can see that it has tried to grow a couple of new roots and then aborted them, obviously because they are well above the medium. But to get the base of the new growth into the medium, I would have to repot and bury multiple leaves of the older growth, so I’m scared of causing stem rot. Ever seen this before? Any suggestions? 🤔

    • @mjlemon
      @mjlemon 2 года назад

      Probably should have watched the whole video before posting this; you kinda answered my question. 🥴🤦🏻‍♂️ Will try to use more bark at the top to reduce chance of rotting the older growth.

    Do you cut the stems once the flower fades?

    • @carold.8782
      @carold.8782 2 года назад

      Some paphs continue blooming on the same stem, some don't. If you can't figure out which kind you have, I'd leave the stem until it starts to die off.

    Question: when you use slow release fertilizer on an orchid, do you still water with MSU regularly on top of that? (Ex: 4 - 1 without)? I used slow release on a phaius, but not sure if I should fertilize on top of that.

    Ma'am, is it correct to call Ladies Slipper Orchid also as Cyprepedium? How does a cyprepedium differ from paphiopedilum? Are they related? Can they be cross-bred?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  2 года назад +1

      Hi, Cypripediums are a different genus of orchids, but they are related. We still call them slipper orchids, just like Phragmipediums and Paphiopedilums ☺️
