Add "food service industry" to the list of jobs everyone should have. It's amazing how cruel people can be to someone handling their food.

I've been retail (Kmart), amusement park (Cedar Point!), and food service! I definitely agree with you, everyone should do at least one! And now I'm a flight attendant, so I will always enjoy hospitality!

Oh gosh yes. Waiting tables & retail were both eye opening & character building experiences for me! Retail was a lot less stressful though - I might do that again but I'll NEVER go back to food service D:

    • @rileysunderland1904
      @rileysunderland1904 7 лет назад

That is definitely true. I have recently made the transition in the food/restaurant industry to working in retail and they both do have their ups and downs but I definitely do prefer working in retail cause it's a lot less stressful. I was a hostess which may not sound that stressful but it is cause you have to keep in mind not only over seating a certain server's section but also there are some customers who prefer to sit in either booths or tables and sometimes everyone will want a booth and you have to leave people waiting for one or a certain server will have nothing but booths in their section so there may come a time where you have to seat them sort of heavily so the customers won't get angry. And just that experience alone was absolutely terrible that I would never want to go back to working in restaurants. I've found I've come across angry customers a lot less often in retail and it's definitely a lot more of a laid back environment so I wouldn't care to work in it for awhile and possibly transfer to another retail job.

Haunted Mansion is the top of my list because you don't constantly have to smile, it's air conditioned really nicely, the costumes are fun, and it's my favourite attraction

I like these creative episodes like this. I made a suggestion a while back that would be a fun episode for y'all. You could try and "create" your own attraction using any Disney movie or idea and you two can compare. Great job hosting, Steve!

as far as compassion i agree. ive told my kids that 2 types of jobs they really should work is retail and restaraunt just for a little bit as kids to get a better understanding of how to treat people

    • @francess_rose
      @francess_rose 7 лет назад +6

Totally agree. For some people as well it's an actual career path and children shouldn't be brought up to be told that retail or food industry based jobs aren't real jobs or dead end jobs. You'd be amazed the amount of patronising people on a daily basis who don't understand the amount of work that goes into running and maintaining a business. :)

I just got done with my CP at Jungle Cruise, and I fell in love with it so much. It was a dream come true. Definitely a great place to work if you are willing to have fun with it. A LOT of skippers surprisingly don't love it as much as you would think, but I am a positive person/ cast member and had the time of my life!! My favorite part of the job was letting little kids drive the botes!!!

I've never worked at Disney World and I'm not sure if it counts as an attraction but it it has to be a Monorail Pilot!!!! Driving around those loops all day with the beautiful scenery would be great. If not that then Star Tours.

  • @KMEECHY

To expand on your Haunted Mansion decision, usually in the stretching room after the lights go out a lot of the time the cast members give people frights which would be a good laugh.

so we were the last ones to go thru right before the park closed and the cms all gathered around this one girl and it was the funniest thing in the world when the lights came back on. thats a magical moment that didnt affect me directly but i will always remember it

On my last visit to HM, a cast member stepped aside and behind one of the last stone arches. I saw him, but the group behind me didn't. He casually blended into their group and it wasn't until he reached for the door that he was noticed and they screamed.

  • @kaitlin4u

Ryno you are so right!!!! Last time I went and saw Mickeys Phillar magic there was a man that sat in the very middle of the row upfront even though we were told to scoot all the way. And when a cast member asked him to scoot down he was VERY rude. And when the cast member finally gave up the guy was laughing about it with his wife with his kids right there witnessing their father completely disrespect somebody. My boyfriend almost said something to him but didn't. Its just frustrating because she was just doing her job.

Now don't hate on me, as I am just a seater. BUT I would love to work attractions, spaceship earth or soarin if I had my choice. I love the costume for soarin and I have an emotional attachment to spaceship earth ❤ loved this show guys! Keep up the good work!

I have eaten at Tony's Town Square twice and both times were very fine experiences. The first time, four years ago, we were seated on the patio. As we finished our meal, the announcement went out that the night parade was going to start in just a few minutes. We hadn't realized this was going to happen, so we ordered ourselves a dessert and enjoyed the show. The second time I wanted to replicate the experience, but our evening in MK happened to coincide with a rainstorm that would make Noah feel at home. Nonetheless, we sat, rainsoaked, inside. We enjoyed the food, and there was plenty of it. They even brought my significant other a birthday cupcake. Best food in the world? No. Best food in the park? No. But perfectly fine, fun theming, great views of the parade if you can swing it, and excellent service by awesome cast members like you who make a trip to Disney so extra special. Pass on my thanks to you and the rest of the team at Tony's. You have at least one defender who will stick up for TTS as a meal choice!

I would want to work on Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror. I would love to be spooky all day and work in air conditioning! I'm also a science nerd, so I would love to work at the Land or Seas pavilions at Epcot, doing plant and animal care and science education, or if I could stand the heat, being an interpreter at the trails at Animal Kingdom.

I worked at Safaris during my DCP! Surprisingly, it was easier to catch on to everything than I thought it would be. The hardest part was learning how to drive the truck. That thing is huge! I had a great trainer though, which helped a lot. Learning about all of the animals was the fun part. It was certainly fun seeing them everyday!

Hey guys! I was a CP fall 2015 and closed the Captain EO show :) Rotation for EO was attached to Journey into Imagination and Epcot Character Spot, so it added variety, but honestly theater at EO was my favorite position. Everyone who worked there quoted the show all day, every day and honestly guests there were the best! We had some hardcore super fans come, some even dressed like Michael and it was really neat to see the following this tiny forgotten attraction had.

As a former Jungle Cruise Skipper at Adlib in WDW I will say this although they do have the "set script" that you are supposed to use all the time. If you were funny and didn't upset the guest you could get quite a few of your own jokes on there. In the span of two rides one I got recognized for a magical moment and after the next cruise I needed to go to the office and get reprimanded lol.

You guys are so right when you say the people help make the job. I started as a Blizzard Lifeguard and whilst it was a really varied rotation there was very little interaction and it was hard to get to know anybody well. In winter I was deployed to All Star, which I thought I was going to hate, but as it was a much smaller team and a less 'full on' environment, I got to know some really cool people and enjoyed the job so much more because of it!

My daughter and I ate at Tony's in February. We had an amazing experience. Our server was a doll really above and beyond and our food was delicious. We ate at both castles and many other great restaurants and Tony's was definitely a favorite of ours! We would highly recommend it. My dinner was shrimp scampi, it is a favorite dish I make for my family, and I totally loved it.

I worked at WDW from 1985 to 1989 and worked Spaceship Earth, The Land boat ride, Journey into Imagination, Captain EO when it first came out, MO/HO (World of Motion/Horizons, and then went to Monorails. Monorails was the best because everyone knew everyone in the department and it was like a huge family. They were also very relaxed in Monorails about talking to fellow cast members there where as at EPCOT it was frowned on. Also in Monorails you could get as many hours of overtime as you wanted.

Rock on! Edaville Railroad! Carver Mass. Yes, the theme park is back now and running again. It started under the banner "Edaville USA" while a lot of that is still on their website they've revamped a more specific branding to the park itself "Edaville Family Theme Park" . I lived in plymouth so spent many early/mid 1980s summers at the park. Great memories. They're building new memories now with a new generation. Awesome that you made a mention. thanks.
Should also Add: WDW College Program former Cast. Aug 96 to Feb 97 for the EPCOT Friendship Lagoon boats, the rotation would usually be either between Mexico/Germany or Canada/Morocco Docks, or sometimes the "hotel runs" and around then-Disney MGM Studios (now Hollywoood studios, should be re-re-named Disney Star Wars Studios)

    3. Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

Ryno, seeing this video for the first time, I am mentioning this cause you are into trains. Florida finally has as of March /April 2020 an operational steam locomotive. The organization has been rebuilding the locomotive for the past two years or so.

It's true, attractions hosts don't generally get a lot of prolonged guest interaction. I worked WDS/Great Moments at Disneyland and while we didn't get much, I think we probably had as much time as anyone with the guests. Door greeter for sure, exit hall when we had enough people, and the lobby positions for a few minutes before/after spiels while waiting for the auditorium doors to open. (Of course, this changes if you work at a park that has attractions hosts work special events or guest control shifts.)

  • @KassMcCormack

As much as I would love working at the Haunted Mansion (because it's my favorite ride) I live in California and would work at the one here in Disneyland which, if you believe the rumors and lore, is haunted by a shadow figure and I refuse to spend any extended period of time in a location that's haunted by a shadow figure. It's the only supernatural thing that scares me and it gives me such negative vibes that it makes me physically ill. If it weren't for that I would jump at the chance to work in the Haunted Mansion with Pirates being my 2nd choice.

This was such a fun episode-Cast members from whatever park are joined by the experience -I was a Leather writer/trainer in Frontierland at the Disneyland resort-that's a 100% guest contact position-so I had to talk, write and SERVICE all at the same time-as much as I loved it-iwould have a "bad shift" now and then but 90% of the time it was magic moments, high emotions and lots of fun-we often said if you didn't cry at least oncre a day it wasn't a great shift-but compared to working a candy service counter in Critter Country I've gotta say being a leather writer was the best probably 2nd to working Disney Gallery-I wanted to be in Guest Relations but just didn't happen-My entertainment industry life began as a VIP tour guide at Universal Hollywood when it was still owned by M C A another incredible job in the days when it was really a position that required skill, charisma and lots of patience----I would go back to either place even now

I worked Dinoland attractions! It was so fun. I was so happy to work at DAK back in the day because it closed earlier than the other parks and everything was so spread out. I just loved being in a park that wasn't so DISNEY DISNEY DISNEY, and more chill wildlife and cultural theme. If I had to pick 5 other attractions I'd pick: GMR, Tower, Safari, Jungle and I guess Star Tours.

My absolute favorite ride at Disney is Haunted Mansion. I wouldn't want to work there because I wouldn't want to ruin the ride for me. I want it to stay a mystery to me lol.

I plan for my retirement job to be a photopass photographer. Not really an attraction but I love photography and I love Disney. :)
Captain EO was one of my youngest daughter's fav attraction when we went to Disney when she was 7. She insisted we go see it 3 times and she would NOT leave until all the music was done. She then got very into MJs music. :)

Steve, I saw Horizons a lot. It was my favorite and I think the sequel to Carousel of Progress. I'm sure you would have loved it.

Haunted mansion and tower of terror definitely. Because of the character. I think it would be hysterical to make jokes and be completely deadpan about them.

I've never worked there, but I would love to be a boat driver--either with Jungle Cruise or one of the water taxis. I think second would be Haunted Mansion--love the atmosphere ad history.

I would totally want to work at the Haunted Mansion, but I get the feeling that it's a really popular assignment and therefore very difficult to get. I would also love to hang out in Animal Kingdom all day, so maybe snag a spot in the new Pandora section? It is my favourite park of the four and I think Pandora is going to be beautiful. In regards to the reality of cast member life, I have always worked in customer service and I truly love helping people and the unique experiences you get to have when working on that front line or "on stage". BUT, I agree with the guys that it only takes one bad egg to ruin your entire day. I really do wish that customer service was a mandatory job for everyone at some point in their life so that they would understand just how far a smile and a little common courtesy can go. To that point, I've actually received a "no strings attached" fast pass from a cast member for being nice lol. So it's all about the good karma!

My daughter and I still talk about the best cast member we ever had at Tower. That's the ride I would want to work. Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise would be next on the list. You can make a significant impact on guest experience on those rides.
After that I'd pick one that isn't a ride - 50's Prime Time. When it first opened Charles and Lenny were the best, most in character, servers ever. The only one that has hit their mark since was one we had several years ago - phenomenal. He gave everyone at the table a name (that wasn't their name), was somewhat abusive but totally hilarious. Another place where totally grabbing hold of the role can create life long memories for guests.

I would love to be a photo pass photographer in a location off main street. 👋Please do a series on getting the best character experiences with questions and conversation scenarios to have with each character. An example of what I'd like to see is asking Belle what her favorite book is. Can't wait to see what the team comes up with.

Thanks so much for all the effort you put into all of the videos on this channel! It let's me have my Disney fix everyday even though I live in Nova Scotia, and I really appreciate it.

I'm 51 years old, so my choices would be a little different. My #1 choice would be a greeter at one of the deluxe resorts. It wouldn't matter which one. I think I would really love it and be good at it because I interact with people really, really well. In terms of attractions: MK - Haunted Mansion and People Mover. Epcot - Living with the Land and Spaceship Earth (2 of my favorite attractions in all of WDW). HS - Muppet Vision 3D and Great Movie Ride. AK - Festival of the Lion King and Dinosaur.
