As someone who's worked in the flooring industry, going with a vinyl plank is a good move. Just remember to grab an extra few boxes when you order for spares, and the particular one chosen may not be available in the future. As with yarn, dye lots matter for this product.
I agree 45 years in the flooring business a good quality lvp (luxury vinyl plank ) is a way better choice then any laminate .A laminate floor the patten is only a very thin layer pressed onto a core material of various kinds of materials ? Thicker IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER if they are useing a cheap material as core material ,also most lvp floors are waterproof ,laminates are not as water resistant .LVPs are like a rubber very durable and the embossed graining are very realistic
We did luxury vinyl plank because we have 4 dogs. After 3 years we are still ecstatic about our choice. Waterproof and scratch proof!! No wear showing at all yet. We chose not to glue down just in case it didn’t hold up. We did glue down around the toilets and showers. There is a microbiotical (sp?) underlayment that was put down so that if water did happen to get under the floor, mold and germs would not grow. I’d do it again in a skinny minute. And the price to purchase and install (you all could easy DIY), beat the pants off real wood. We didn’t consider laminate because we’ve had that and it “blisters” if it gets a scratch and gets wet. And it does scratch. Good luck! Love watching your channel!!
Today we celebrate 53 years of marriage and what we love most about our union is the bantering and laughter - it’s fun to watch you two doing the same.
Mellisa, when all this is done (not that it will really ever be “done”) you should write a book about your adventure. You have a definite talent for storytelling. Hope Jeremy’s back is holding up ok.
G’day Good Simple Living Jeremy Melissa family & Co ;-) Have you looked at actual hardwood flooring yet? As for me personally the click clack noise of the plastic timber flooring is truly loud & can only be lightly mopped. Or potentially a timber look, long wide ceramic tiles? Keep up the awesome work, and the humour too, With many source blessings with truth clarity love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures abundance wisdom and may peace be with you all! Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 xoxo
Your videos are so professionally done. The music, the pictures, y'alls adorable joking and conversations are blended together wonderfully. I'm so impressed. And of course Melissa, your ending thoughts were inspirational. Love seeing how quickly things are moving along now. Love, love, love the flooring choice. So exciting.
I'm sorry it took me a bit to post, all of a sudden I got hit with bittersweet memories of my husband and how kind and generous he was with me also. I just started missing him horribly and had to stop for awhile to just get it out, then come back and finish watching. It took me a long time to find my sweet husband. I'm so glad and grateful that you have each other. You are a great team. And beautiful people. Keep up the wonderful work you're doing for each other and your family. You're amazing!❤️ God bless always.
My DIL is a interior designer and convinced me to go with the high grade waterproof vinyl planks, I love it so much. It’s been 2years and it is amazing, warm to bare feet and easy to clean , and still looks brand new.
100% especially country living waterproof vinyl planks is the way to go with the affordable wood look options on the market right now. We just ripped up laminate put in by the last owners and its always been hard to keep clean because it gets so much dirt that over the years it ruined the finish in less that 4 years.
Looking Great. Need to put in LVP that’s durable and water proof. Also think about putting in heated floors in bathrooms and mud room. Tile in bathrooms and fun with the design. Maybe a nice Dark Blue Glass tile for the Master Bed room. Lol. NO Carpet. In bed rooms. Throw rugs only. Easier and cheaper to replace when wear out or need a change.
Every opening montage, I think why haven’t we come to visit you guys yet. So beautiful there! Haha! Excited to see the flooring starting to go in! We aren’t too far behind you! 🙌🏽
Awesome - getting to the exciting design phase. Melissa, I so appreciate your closing thoughts! The fear of not doing the move/build was greater than the fear of letting go of your comfortable, lovingly-known lifestyle, home, community. Kind of puts me in mind of our early settlers! On another note, may I recommend a great book, ON BECOMING MRS. LEWIS, the story of Joy Davidman and C S. Lewis' love for one another. You might have already read it, though hard to believe you would find time to do so. Hope Nevaeh is well!. That will be my great great niece's middle name when she is born in May 2022. Anxious for your next vlog!
I had my floors done in the vinyl waterproof flooring a year ago and they are all popping up now. The floor guy told me that this has been an issue for quite awhile in this industry. They can't seem to stabilize the material over time/ Now they will have to go back to the manufacturer and get compensation since they all need to be redone now. Wish he had told me this before I put them in. My next flooring will be tile that looks like wood!!!
I watched a video on new home builds and during inspection, they missed studs, cut through support walls, and so much more. Jeremy has done a phenomenal job. The darker the floor more dust shows than a lighter floor. It's very nice.
As along time flooring contractor, THANK GOD for practical people making practical floor choices!!! Wood around the island will be trashed in an hour. “Water proof” laminate planks are junk! Pay close attention to every letter in the warranty, otherwise if you don’t install it to their requirements, it will be your fault if there is an issue in the future.
Love everything you’re doing with your house. Love your channel. I’ve told everyone that this is the best show you’re missing. Ditch TV and watch GSL! WARNING! I’ve been a property Mgr for 28 yrs and I’m worried about your choice of laminate flooring. Not good around water, it scratches easier than you think. May I suggest tile that looks like wood. It is even textured and most people will have to touch it to tell the difference. With all the boots and mud, I think it would be something to consider. You can also add heat under the tile. Since warm air rises, you’ll save money in heating costs. My father did this in our home in 1970 and I’ve bought the materials to do my bathrooms. Just a thought.
Agree totally with Sunny’s comments. GSL is always a worthwhile 30 minutes spent. But surprised about the choice of laminate. Does not match the quality build Jeremy has accomplished and Melissa has dreamed for.
I have friends who went with cork flooring in the kitchen, it’s been there 30 years, still looks new! She’s a master chef, a gardener, a painter and potter. Believe me that floor gets used! It’s still forgiving underfoot and beautiful! When I replace my kitchen flooring, it will be cork for sure.
I hope you won't regret having laminate/hybrid. I am in the flooring industry (25 years experience) and I do not recommend laminates or hybrids because they have so many problems that can go wrong. Laminates are very susceptible to swelling when moisture is around and both will have mould and mildew problems if moisture gets underneath them. Vinyls are a more durable long term flooring and if you have any moisture, you won't have any problems. In saying this, good luck with your selections and I REALLY feel for Jerome as I HATE shopping too.
Keep up the good work, fun fact! My neighbor wrote a book on Mark Twain “ Mark Twain in Elmira”. And as a 16 year old I mowed the grass in Woodlawn Cemetery . I actually mowed Mark Twains grave site where the family is buried.
Weatherproof vinyl flooring..commercial grade...lights color..hides the dirt, dog fur and great on traffic. Laminate isn't scratch resistant..and it has layers where vinyl goes thru all the way. Just an idea. For carpet...avoid blues. They are dirt magnets and not family and pet friendly.
My living room, hall, look like wood, but are vinyl plank. Laminate is OK, but vinyl is more waterproof. You spill something and it cleans right up. My kitchen, entrance, and bathrooms, are vinyl sheet. They look like stone. Just a suggestion. We are very happy with these floors. Your house is looking great!
Melissa, yr music choices are always spot on, in EACH part or sections of the video when progressing with each room, or project! And it adds to the ambiance when you take the shots of the weather, the snow, the views of the mountains! Love it.
What I did when picking out durable flooring, was to grab a sharp screw and try to mark the display panels, numerous people had done this before. Found one that would not scratch at all, 10 years, 2 dogs later not one single scratch..
Love that flooring you are considering for the main great room. My husband does flooring and he did a floor like that. At first I thought holy cow too busy but when I saw the finished floor I loved it.
News flash.... March is still Winter In N. Idaho. AND Spring can have 4 seasons in one day. You will Love all weather when your warm and cozy in new home 💗
We had ceramic throughout our entire home when we bought it, but we added a room a few years ago, and chose luxury vinyl planks in gray wood tone .... I absolutely love the LVP flooring. Best decision ever. It's sooooo easy to clean. I always chose ceramic tile since we have four dogs, but now I am totally and forever converted. Just imagine ... no grout lines!!! It's so durable, and looks very much like wood, and you can get waterproof planks. It's Awesome!
Are you sure you want lamented flooring? They make some really great plank vinyl that is so durable. I have it in my 1930’s farmhouse and love it. It has texture and no matter what you do to it it still looks great. Living in the country is definitely hard on your finishes. The colors are gorgeous!!
I have just installed for the first time all new kitchen cabinets. I changed the layout so it was tricky for me. But I got it done! I say this because? Jeremy, you are the bomb my friend! I felt so encouraged when I saw you struggle with finding that stud! I felt like that was all I was doing with those cabinets. Now I know that I have good company. I also used your technique of pulling drywall on the sawhorses to cut. So much easier on a sore back. Thank you for sharing all of this, it helps me. :)
Oh, Melissa, you bring me to tears ALMOST every time you sum up your vlogs. I hope you are journaling your sums. One day, it will be nice to collect them all and journal that book. It might be easier to collect from written or PC journals than going through your vlogs. Based on Twain's quote, don't regret not writing that coffee table book of Melissa's sums of thought, with pictures of yalls past home, the tiny house, the build of the new home/life, the horses sheep and pets, the gardens family and fences and of course, beautiful Idaho. Yup, listen to that quote, and don't regret not writing that book. You know, yall are like family. Like families and living life, they change. So we just never get to visit anymore cuz. At least that's how I've expressed this book thing to you. That's the strange, weirdness of people somewhat knowing you and you, NOT knowing them. 😆 🤣 😂 I have to laugh, or I won't post this. Blessings, guys.
I love listening to your closing remarks and the one on this video brought tears to my eyes. I’m 68 years old and not in the best of health. I look back on my life and career and all of the woulda, coulda, shouldas in my life. I think of the many regrets and missteps I’ve made. Bravo to you and Jeremy for facing life head on. What an example to give your children.
When we remodeled our old farm house 15 years ago, we decided on laminate flooring to “cut costs” and we have regretted it ever since! The backing on the laminate deteriorated and we began seeing a black soot coming out around our baseboards. Every time we opened an exterior door, it was like a vacuum and the soot would come out in streaks. Daily we had to vacuum and mop the floors and wipe off the baseboards! Without the backing, planks began to shift, coming apart in some rooms or buckling in others. I can’t imagine what all we had been breathing in! We finally replaced them last summer and went with a natural hickory, like our cabinets and vanities. We decided on porcelain tile in the kitchen and now everyone asks “did you get new cabinets”? We realized our cabinets were lost in the same colored laminate flooring. We already had a terrazzo look glue down durable tile in baths and utility room.
You guys have no idea how much I love you and admire what you've done and what you are going to do. You two are amazing together and have amazing children. I know the world is a small place and that gives me some hope that one day I might be lucky enough to bump into you and your family. Like many I have been following your journey for ages and enjoy all the content you push out into the world. It's like having a regular injection of hope and love along with peace, all in one massive shot. You are in my thoughts and prayers for many reasons but this one very thought often crosses my mind when I silently pray and that is to ask for more people like you to be in this world of today. So from a rainy and dull day here in southeast England I wish you and your family the very best of health, happiness and peace. Until next time, stay safe and just continue to do what you do best. ✝✝✝✝✝ ❤
Jeremy your an excellent builder, and Melissa a great story teller. You should write your own book Thanks for taking us along on the build of your beautiful home.God Bless your precious family.
Our house flooded in 2016. When we replaces the floor my hubby wanted porcelain floors, so we picked the porcelain tiles that looked like wood planks (9” x 36”). Looks like wood, but we have found it keeps our house cold in the winter. We live in Louisiana so you would think this would not be a problem, but we always have to wear socks and/or slippers inside now.
It's your house but I think that carpet is a mistake especially if anyone has allergies. It holds dirt and bacteria not to mention little critters. You may think you have it cleaned by vacuuming or even steam cleaning but it is not. Just for your consideration. Love your build and family.
Off topic comment: I thought of your family when I went to the grocery store and saw some Huckleberry ice cream (Tillamook brand). Of course, I had to buy some. Good stuff! It probably won't fit in your snack belt, but if you like ice cream, I highly recommend it.
Just something to consider about textured walls. How are you going to clean them, repair if necessary, and repaint if years down the road you decide to change colors? I own a cleaning business and look at the practical side of things that make less work are easier to maintain, and offer fkexibility. You guys are doing a great job with your house build! Love your channel and always look forward to your videos!
I am still amazed at your accomplishments. I watched you build your tiny home and now I am watching you complete your forever home. Team work makes the dream work.
Aww I wish I had a husband who looks after me like that and who likes what I like! That's the perfect answer ha,ha '' I like what you like ''. On a serious note, I love how you guys work together, you really are a great team, a joy to watch you!
Haha. My wife too would agree with you. I was bought up with "Happy Wife, Happy Life". That has worked for the last 34 yrs of Marriage, and I am sure it will for the next 50 yrs or so. But yes Communication has to be Always an Open door. Oh, Love! Helps a lot too LOL.
I highly recommend porcelain wood tile. It's porcelain, so it is very scratch resistant and water proof. It is dimensional stable and won't expand in high moisture environment, and it is also very cold resistant. Many color and wood grain varieties available. It does not have any wood fiber ingredients, but it feels very very close to wood floors.
Good choice, I would have picked the same flooring, it actually looks the most natural & more rustic then the other choices. It is exhausting trying to decide, but fun at the same time. I think also, the darker will not show as much dirt, they have great cleaning items now for those type of floors. You are almost there! Drywall is almost over 😂
That new flooring you chose is very good looking in that space. I don’t like using the words ‘beautiful’ or ‘gorgeous’ but, it really adds some warmth, a variety of color, and some life to the floor that doesn’t look too busy like zebra-wood would. I still like the blue board, but they both get covered with something so it really doesn’t matter when they are finished. your big journey is still ongoing and it’s great to watch you move through the various steps and how you make your decisions along the way. My wife and I are retired for more than 10 years and we just signed a contract to sell our home and then we get to start our own, long-awaited, journey by traveling around the country living in a 43 foot fifth wheel.
It is so smart to insulate the interior walls. Sound, only heating part f the home, many benefits. The wall where my thermostat is mounted is interior wall not insulated, and cold air blows down from the attic which is improperly insulated. I tore the drywall out insulated, and reduced my electric and gas bill $100/mnth
Lovely ending. However, my regret is that I did leave. Sorry for saying that because it is so obvious that you two did make the right choice. Your previous home is wonderful, but your new home and all that comes with it is fantastic. All of us have our own journey to take with our own decisions on the way. I'm gratified that so far in our country we have the freedom to make our own decisions.
How blessed are we all to live in a country that allows us the freedom of choice!!! It is good to remember that we are all ONE FAMILY--the family of HUMANITY! Pray for Ukraine and us all that the Russians do not succeed in stamping out this beautiful culture! Sorry strong feelings broke thur on this healing channel!!
You should look into vinyl plank. It look like hardwood but is waterproof. We have laminate in our kitchen and it didn’t hold up well with kids and spills.
I love you guys, you brighten up my day. (you guys are nuts, hahaha) Love your humor and positive attitude toward everything. Remember though, flooring is very important in kitchen and bathrooms, if you have a mishap of water in either room, your floor will be ruint (southern talk=Ruint...haha) Great job guys, looking beautiful, can't wait to see it finished.
Melissa, another beautiful life summary. It reminded me of the speech from President Teddy Roosevelt that I read at my wonderful husband’s memorial service. It’s called “The Arena” He gave this speech in 1910. I think this epitomizes not living with regret even if we fail sometimes. IT IS NOT THE CRITIC WHO COUNTS; NOT THE MAN WHO POINTS OUT HOW THE STRONG MAN STUMBLES. OR WHERE THE DOER OF DEEDS COULD HAVE DONE THEM BETTER. THE CREDIT BELONGS TO THE MAN WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE ARENA, WHOSE FACE IS MARRED BY DUST AND SWEAT AND BLOOD; WHO STRIVES VALIANTLY; WHO ERRS, WHO COMES SHORT AGAIN AND AGAIN, BECAUSE THERE IS NO EFFORT WITHOUT ERROR AND SHORTCOMING; BUT WHO DOES ACTUALLY STRIVE TO DO THE DEEDS; WHO KNOWS GREAT ENTHUSIASMS, THE GREAT DEVOTIONS; WHO SPENDS HIMSELF IN A WORTHY CAUSE; WHO AT THE BEST KNOWS IN THE END THE TRIUMPH OF HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, AND WHO AT THE WORST, IF HE FAILS, AT LEAST FAILS WHILE DARING GREATLY, SO THAT HIS PLACE SHALL NEVER BE WITH THOSE COLD AND TIMID SOULS WHO NEITHER KNOW VICTORY NOR DEFEAT. •
Wow interior...... refreshing loving the floor colour can’t believe it’s nearly spring and the dry wall is nearly done that also means some new toilets 🚽 really really enjoying your home build has I always say u guys are such beautiful people and are a inspiration love you guys take care can’t wait for next video beautiful family xx
I did tiger strip bamboo in the living room & bedroom with a big tile entry. I did a 18x24 LVT tile and did urethane grout joints in my kitchen. It really blows people’s minds when they realize it isn’t ceramic.
A great adventure! Our foundation walls are going to be poured in the next 30 days… I’ve been getting so disappointed over the last year when I tune in to channels like yours and see so much progress on a daily/weekly basis. This month we start our own momentum. Thanks for sharing.
Y'all probably won't see this, and may have already settled on your floor, but I highly recommend LVP (luxury vinyl plank). It's so durable, waterproof and has the wood look. There are different grades, of course, but ours does have the texture to it. We built our retirement home 3 years ago at a coastal town in NC...10 minutes from the beach. The floor has held up beautifully to my outdoorsman hubby and 11 grandchildren. Very easy to clean as well.
Don't worry too much about how busy the floor is, the variation in the flooring you picked is likely to be enough to hide plenty of dirt, in my mom's house she picked a very busy Spanish tile patterned vinyl for the kitchen and dining room, if you dropped anything on it it disappeared. The next floor she put down was a rock patterned laminate, she made sure it had a range of tones.
I own a cleaning company and can vouch for that! One of our clients got rid of her dark floors and went with a neutral color. Looks nice all the time. Another one of client's put in darker color floors. It is beautiful but it shoes all the dust and pet hair.
Love how you end your videos. Very wise words we could all live by. You have come so far with your home building. I remember when you just started your foundation
Still love watching your channel! So uplifting and positive! What beautiful people you are, so loving, caring and respectful! Thank you for sharing your lives with the world.💕
You're doing well. Did he say that he is color blind? I found that in the Army on night patrol my color blindness was an advantage. I didn't walk into trees or off of cliffs like other guys did. You should look into a hydraulic ram pump on your stream to water your garden this summer. You can build it fairly cheap yourself and it will save a lot of electricity. You might be able to make a pond on your stream too. Good Luck, Rick
As I’ve said on numerous occasions, you guys are just amazing! The fantastic job you are doing, the great choices you’ve made so far all add up to a stunning mountain home. I can only imagine how it will look once completed! Give yourselves a big pat on the back, you deserve it! 🌿
The last two years, we went through the same unknown. We sold our home in WA. Moved to a rental and bought our farm. In August, I moved my wife and belongings to our new life and wrapped up our life, my work, in WA. We trusted God to provide, as I had no job when I left in Sept. in Oct, God provided and I started mid month. We are now a few months in and God continues to provide. I’ve watched you go through these same thoughts. I’ve wanted so much to see your place, but I’m now East of you. Our lives have crossed paths, by virtue of your channel. We’ve shared thoughts and dreams and we are doing similar things. While our new home is still a couple years out, our family is safe and together and we are debt free, self sufficient and happy. Thank you for being there for us, just like we are there for you.
Hello guys from Canada me and my family have built 3 homes and we can tell you do not put that flooring in the washrooms And and mud room 🇨🇦😊 you guys are doing a great job 👏🏻
Getting so excited for you guys...........again! LOL I get excited each time you start anything new and it's all so exciting it's hard to pick a favorite part........it's all favorite. When you were picking floor tile I couldn't help but think of my sister in law who put almost black on her hardwoods and oh my.........I do love what you have chosen........."unless you find something you like better"........sounds like me as I look through samples. Enjoy the journey. Blessings..........FUN FUN times.....
Are you kidding me, you guys are starting flooring, that is Freaken awesome. I really thought drywall was going to take a good while, great job guys, Jeremy outdid himself pulling extra drywall duty at night, or as late as possible. Amazing.
They have a long way still before flooring goes in. With supply issues they are ordering now so that hopefully they will have it when it's time to install it.
Like the floor colors, gives it that old barn wood look, with the patina time stains. May I suggest a light color or even a white wash on the ceiling, with faux beams, and truss look, about 6'-8' apart, like on the front of the house. It would bring depth a massiveness feeling of a log home. And that dark color of the floor on all the trim and doors. And don't forget the metal brackets too complete the look. And on another vote have you thought about the special glasses for those whom have color issues with their eyes. Take care and God bless amen.
This is such a treat to watch! I love your floor choice, it will be beautiful when installed. It’s really fun watching you work together, the shopping trip was fun as well.
now I why the children are such good kids, HOME SCHOOLING! Another job well done for Mom and Dad to pat each other on the back saying "good job". That house is gorgeous, and as a daughter of a contractor I know my father would have been amazed that you two "green" contractors did such a beautiful job. What dedication ! I am a wuss you both worked through such adverse weather conditions and kept so dedicated, that is what it takes to succeed... I'd have failed, most others would also. It takes the spirit that you both have to have such a successful working life that is producing much of your own food and working so hard. I think your about the best example of what a family can do and be like if they stay dedicated and supportive of each other and the love you all have for each other is very apparent.
Jeremy is such an incredible guy to work with. The same can be said about Melissa - except for the guy part. The different jobs all become tedious and very tiring to do for more than 45 minutes at a time. Both of you have this neat trick of doing the unexpected and confronting the other with absurdities and measurement issues AND recovering from bouts of laughter. Keep it up. Will you sell all your stuff again when you move to build a new house?
Love your house!! But as someone who has remodeled a number of houses. Please be aware that water resistant does not mean water proof. After going through several water leaks, any floating floor can get water underneath and you don’t know until it’s too late. It’s best not to put it in a bathroom, mud room or laundry. I wish someone had told me this.
Well, I have finally got to post a comment. I love the tiger laminate pretty much the best. I would also recommend a steel grey carpet for your bathrooms. Any color will go with this. I wish I had known about the stairs for the loft. I have watched so many 'Little House' videos & voiced my comments pretty much to myself.....lol....about their building the stairs instead of a ladder. You have the option of additional storage. I am really excited about your building this house. It is something I wish I had thought about when I was way younger. I would have found a piece of property in Alaska & started out with the shell of a barn & went from there. I can hardly wait to see more. Thanks for sharing this with me. I am currently home bound living out the last few years here & am enjoying watching every one else doing what I wish I could have done. Jamie Crabtree-Messenger & Paddy (my dog).....Tennessee
I just saw a tool that would really make short work of some of ur tasks! It’s like a nail gun, only it is for screws!! Has the “belt” of screws like bullets on automagically progresses after each screw is set!! Save u time and $ without using individual screws!! Check it out!! U guys are terrific !!
Oh Melissa.. those words..that frase just happens to come when I need it the most.. And some how every time I watch your videos, that exact thing happens.. 😆 Anyway, I ha e this project in my hands and like you say it's overwhelming when you are having to take decisions, but, I don't want to get older and have the remorse of not even trying it out, even if it doesn't work out. I am afraid of the new, of the unknown, of the changes and risks. But the fear of seeing the years passing by and me just wishing to just start, its even bigger then actually do it. The calling of the universe comes from where you least expect it... today as you guys decide flooring and share you choice snack and the frase your teacher had on the wall, were the hints of the universe telling me to go on.. and build my dream. Thank you... 😊 keep blessing us with your words. They have been of a big help to myself.
I would like to make a suggestion.... Until the ceiling and drywall has been has been fully installed and finished and painted etc, the flooring should be the last thing to go in..... If you put it in too soon, there is a possibility of damaging the new floors.... Drywall mud, paint spatters, dropping, stuff may scratch your new floor tiles... You guys are doing a great job..... Just keep up the good work....
Maybe consider the TILE that looks like wood! Very tough. CVT Commercial vinyl tile is very durable like what you would see in a hospital/hotel with thousands walking on it it survives. In a home you will get tired of it before you wear it out harm it.
something to consider with your laminate. spend the extra money and get an underlayment that's insulated. otherwise your floor in the winter will be really cold. ask me how i know.
Thoughts on wall texturing: As a pro plasterer of 20 plus years experience, I wouldn't do it. You're in a new home that will be settling over the next couple of years. Texturing (thick roll up & knock down as Jeremy mentioned) will crack and is a lot more difficult to repair than a simple crack at a seam which is pretty unlikely. You'll have nail pops, yes, but they are easy to fix. Any sort of spray texture is also difficult to fix and have it blend in seamlessly. I have confidence in Jeremy that he can do a good job mudding and taping the joints for a nice paint finish. Just something to consider.
How could you clean textured walls? And what if some day you would want to change the color? Flat painted walls are easier to maintain and give you more flexibility.
For flooring in my ex home took samples of the favorite choices took them home put them outside on the driveway for a week and beat them with a hammer. Just to see which would hold up. Also beat them with a hammer as well. Armstrong held up the best.
I had a kitchen with light cabinets and countertops, white walls and ceilings, almond appliances, and lots of windows, I had very dark vinyl tile basically black with dappled greens and blues. It looked great.
We used water-resistant laminate in the kitchen and it hasn't held up as well as we had hoped. Definitely make sure if you go the laminate route you get waterproof laminate in any area you risk water
Your words are very profound!! They are reeling in my head now as I face something in my life. Which way do I go ? You took the hard option, risking it all to maybe lose it all. Yet you took that brave step forward. Yes it’s scary, no journey like yours is going to be easy. So far you are blessed and ahead of it. Looking back two years you have progressed and I think a lot happier than ever before, am I right ? All I know is it takes nerves of steal and fortitude to do what you’ve done. I needed this today, thank you 😊 I’m facing a gut wrenching event coming up. I need prayers to even survive it. So thank you Melissa for helping me today. God bless you all. You made the right decision. ♥️🙏♥️
I have built several houses and picked materials and colors. A couple of hints...laminate is a good choice, especially with animals in and out. Dark colors in small rooms make them look smaller. And absorb the light. Carpeting looks nice but what about dust and dirt and fleas and ticks, etc? Carpet is a magnet. Maybe throw rugs instead, over laminate. Laminate, if floated, can squeak. Some people even put carpet in bathrooms - mold and mildew. Sometimes decorator can be worth the money. Then you have accidents to deal with. Washing machines overflow, faucets break, people get sick and so do animals. Not to mention guests.
Your New Home is quickly becoming reality.. its said all to often, it seems like only yesterday.. take note.. in a blink on an eye you are grandparents with great grandchildren.. enjoy the ride. ❤
Hello neighbors the biggest thing you guys are going to have getting use to is the weather in the midwest and west our seasons are short and go buy rapidly so keep coats with you at all times and your garden growing season is shorter most of the time so dont feel like the lone ranger it has been cold and snowy more than normal in Wyoming stay blessed stay warm and i like the floor color you picked it will look nice i am just a carpet person Great video you got this have a great day from Wyoming be watching goodday 😉
As someone who's worked in the flooring industry, going with a vinyl plank is a good move. Just remember to grab an extra few boxes when you order for spares, and the particular one chosen may not be available in the future. As with yarn, dye lots matter for this product.
This comment.
The thicker the plank the better and don't use them in the bathrooms, they will bubble between the joins.
Very good advice!
Congratulations on 53 years!!!
Congratulations!!! What a blessing... God continue to bless and prosper your marriage and family.
Shalom
Happy Anniversary 😊 😃
Congratulations that is so solid!
Happy Anniversary to you both
Mellisa, when all this is done (not that it will really ever be “done”) you should write a book about your adventure. You have a definite talent for storytelling. Hope Jeremy’s back is holding up ok.
I totally concur!
I Agree
Absolutely agree.
Absolutely agree, too!
I thoroughly enjoy the monologue at the end of each episode. Very thoughtful and very well spoken.
Thank you ❤️
Same here!
Definitely hire out the taping, mud & sanding.
G’day Good Simple Living Jeremy Melissa family & Co ;-)
Have you looked at actual hardwood flooring yet?
As for me personally the click clack noise of the plastic timber flooring is truly loud & can only be lightly mopped.
Or potentially a timber look, long wide ceramic tiles?
Keep up the awesome work, and the humour too,
With many source blessings with truth clarity love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures abundance wisdom and may peace be with you all!
Thank you so much 💓
I'm sorry it took me a bit to post, all of a sudden I got hit with bittersweet memories of my husband and how kind and generous he was with me also.
Sweet Lana ❤️ Sounds like you had an incredible love story.
@@GoodSimpleLiving thank you, we did. I miss him so much. 😢. We had so much in common. ❤️❤️❤️
And im following both of you love both of your channels xx
Awesome - getting to the exciting design phase. Melissa, I so appreciate your closing thoughts! The fear of not doing the move/build was greater than the fear of letting go of your comfortable, lovingly-known lifestyle, home, community. Kind of puts me in mind of our early settlers! On another note, may I recommend a great book, ON BECOMING MRS. LEWIS, the story of Joy Davidman and
C S. Lewis' love for one another. You might have already read it, though hard to believe you would find time to do so. Hope Nevaeh is well!. That will be my great great niece's middle name when she is born in May 2022. Anxious for your next vlog!
All 3 of my go-to families here on RUclips are friends!!? That’s so cool😍our tribe of many, good simple living, miller fam you all have my ♥️
I started following you guys
Their Family is so sweet!
We put down tile that looked like wood planks. Very robust. Had it down since 2016 and it is rock solid
Not only is your floor choice beautiful, it also will bring the color scheme of your outside siding inside seamlessly. Great choice you two!!!
yup, I was thinking the same thing
👍👍
Go vinyl! Looks just like wood and so much more durable, waterproof, ding proof with kids and animals, gravel road. So much improved than old vinyl.
considering gasoline prices- I am so glad that you have 2 horses!!!!😁😁
LOVE the flooring!
Yes for SURE CORK FLOORING and it has great insulation qualities
In our new kitchen, we used the cork backed snap vinyl flooring. A little more cost but a tough water proof flooring. Requires no underlayment.
Love it.
Thank you ❤️
Well said!!
Thank you so much 💓
We went with Grade 4 porcelain wood look tile. It’s amazing and stands up to major abuse. We went with it everywhere except the bedrooms.
Ours textured... lightly i would think cuz you habe to look to notice n its little glossy so i just wipe with washcloth...
Y'all make me happy RUclips exists. Much respect from Suffolk Virginia.
Wonderful closing comments, Melissa! Words to live by, for sure. ~ Your choice in flooring looks great. I think it's going to look fantastic.
Thank you ❤️
I am still amazed at your accomplishments.
I love the flooring, I'd put it in the whole house, except the bathrooms. I don't like carpet, with having dogs. A nice area rugs near the beds.
I second that. No to carpets, yes to rugs.
Sorry
strong feelings broke thur on this healing channel!!
That floor is water resistant and doesn’t let water through.
Melissa, another beautiful life summary. It reminded me of the speech from President Teddy Roosevelt that I read at my wonderful husband’s memorial service.
It’s called “The Arena”
He gave this speech in 1910.
I think this epitomizes not living with regret even if we fail sometimes.
IT IS NOT THE CRITIC WHO COUNTS; NOT THE MAN WHO POINTS OUT HOW THE STRONG MAN
STUMBLES. OR WHERE THE DOER OF DEEDS COULD HAVE DONE THEM BETTER. THE CREDIT BELONGS
TO THE MAN WHO IS ACTUALLY IN THE ARENA, WHOSE FACE IS MARRED BY DUST AND SWEAT AND
BLOOD; WHO STRIVES VALIANTLY; WHO ERRS, WHO COMES SHORT AGAIN AND AGAIN, BECAUSE
THERE IS NO EFFORT WITHOUT ERROR AND SHORTCOMING; BUT WHO DOES ACTUALLY STRIVE TO DO
THE DEEDS; WHO KNOWS GREAT ENTHUSIASMS, THE GREAT DEVOTIONS; WHO SPENDS HIMSELF IN A
WORTHY CAUSE; WHO AT THE BEST KNOWS IN THE END THE TRIUMPH OF HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, AND
WHO AT THE WORST, IF HE FAILS, AT LEAST FAILS WHILE DARING GREATLY, SO THAT HIS PLACE SHALL
NEVER BE WITH THOSE COLD AND TIMID SOULS WHO NEITHER KNOW VICTORY NOR DEFEAT.

Thanks for sharing.
good luck🤞🤞🙂 Have fun 🙂
Y'all probably won't see this, and may have already settled on your floor, but I highly recommend LVP (luxury vinyl plank). It's so durable, waterproof and has the wood look. There are different grades, of course, but ours does have the texture to it. We built our retirement home 3 years ago at a coastal town in NC...10 minutes from the beach. The floor has held up beautifully to my outdoorsman hubby and 11 grandchildren. Very easy to clean as well.
YAY!!!.... Flooring time WOOT! - one thing to remember is dark flooring shows every speck of dirt and fur (5 pups in our house)
My thoughts exactly.
You two have accomplished SO MUCH...this "old gal" has enjoyed your story.🏡
Still love watching your channel! So uplifting and positive! What beautiful people you are, so loving, caring and respectful! Thank you for sharing your lives with the world.💕
Love the floor selection. The drywall looks great...house is coming together! ❤
Amazing.
It really is seeing the end in sight. Afterwards, its trim, cabinets, appliances, and start moving it. They should be moving in by fall.
Thank you so much 💓
Jeremy is such an incredible guy to work with.
The fear of regret. Good words to live by. Love the flooring, you guys are going to love it. I have a similar one and it is amazing!
❤️
How’s your back Jeremy? Praying for you that it’s getting much better!🥰🥰🥰🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Still pretty sore, thank you
I’m so sorry, still praying it keeps getting better!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I just saw a tool that would really make short work of some of ur tasks!
It’s like a nail gun, only it is for screws!! Has the “belt” of screws like bullets on automagically progresses after each screw is set!!
Save u time and $ without using individual screws!!
Check it out!!
U guys are terrific !!
You should consider luxury vinyl plank. It’s more durable and can stand up to water, mud and traffic. I miss your random cute dancing.
❤️
I would like to make a suggestion.... Until the ceiling and drywall has been has been fully installed and finished and painted etc, the flooring should be the last thing to go in..... If you put it in too soon, there is a possibility of damaging the new floors.... Drywall mud, paint spatters, dropping, stuff may scratch your new floor tiles... You guys are doing a great job..... Just keep up the good work....
Everything takes so long to order these days. They are not going to put the floors in yet. It can sometimescyake a year for appliances.
...Agree ,, Frame from the bottom up ....Finish from the top down ... materials and scaffolding marks and damage can easily happen ....
Maybe consider the TILE that looks like wood! Very tough.
CVT Commercial vinyl tile is very durable like what you would see in a hospital/hotel with thousands walking on it it survives. In a home you will get tired of it before you wear it out harm it.
If you haven’t already I suggest checking on cabinet wait times- usually 4-6 weeks currently 20-24 weeks. Can’t wait to see what you pick!
something to consider with your laminate. spend the extra money and get an underlayment that's insulated. otherwise your floor in the winter will be really cold. ask me how i know.
Don't do laminate it dents and cracks easy. Go with wood in the great room and tile in kitchen and around the bar. That will stop the scrapes.
I think the flooring color is awesome, great choice.
For flooring in my ex home took samples of the favorite choices took them home put them outside on the driveway for a week and beat them with a hammer. Just to see which would hold up. Also beat them with a hammer as well. Armstrong held up the best.
Beautiful flooring, but I suspect it will make the room feel dark, no matter how much natural light you have coming in.
I had a kitchen with light cabinets and countertops, white walls and ceilings, almond appliances, and lots of windows, I had very dark vinyl tile basically black with dappled greens and blues. It looked great.
You guys should look into vinyl planks to run in bathrooms and great room and kitchen most are actually waterproof and scratch resistant
We used water-resistant laminate in the kitchen and it hasn't held up as well as we had hoped. Definitely make sure if you go the laminate route you get waterproof laminate in any area you risk water
Vinyl is best for water resistant.
We went with commercial grade, high end commercial grade five years ago and it still looks like new.
If cement siding was used, porcelain tile is the best route to match the lifelong durable qualities. Can’t beat it.
♥️🙏♥️
Love the flooring
Well done another ✔️ of the list
Looking fantastic ❤
