    for those who want to reference to his volleys, look at his feet and weight transfer... there isn't a single incidence where his weight is on his back foot...

    • @accel10s
      @accel10s 4 года назад +12

      Actually you are completely wrong. Almost every time he contacts the ball his weight is on the ball of his back foot as he is in mid stride to his front foot. His commits his weight shift completely to the front for foot as he drives the ball to the target. Yes he is moving forward on contact but if your weight is already on your front foot prior to contact then there is no place that you can shift forward to. This is such an old myth that has long ago been debunked. Always set on your back foot and shift to the front through contact but never commit fully to the front foot prior to contact. This is the key to a perfectly timed weight shift.

      @@accel10s I am assuming that the last sentence caused the confusion but it would be more clear if "at the end of his volley" was at the end of the sentence. I thought it was self-explanatory but sorry for the confusion.

    • @accel10s
      @accel10s 4 года назад +4

      박효진 agreed, thanks. I find that most intermediate players make the mistake of shifting the weight to the front foot much too early on the volley, hence my cautionary advice of not being on the back foot.

    • @paullee1521
      @paullee1521 8 месяцев назад

      He's talking about his momentum, it's always going forward. It needs to be going forward on all shots, at all times. It is immensely important.

  • @swalterstennis
    @swalterstennis 4 года назад +7

    Ok, 450,000 views and 19 comments? And no offense, but some of them aren’t even really true or of much depth of thought.
    Here we go:
    1. He does hit a couple volleys “on his back foot (at :14, :16),” but it’s no big deal. He performed the unit turn pivot and loaded up who’s weight in tr outside foot, and didn’t have time or space to come off it. It’s not a groundstroke. It’s not really an angular momentum stroke. It’s more of a linear momentum push or swipe.
    2. He “tracks the ball with his eyes.” Yes, that’s how humans track things, with their vision.
    3. These are unrealistic volleys. He’s not really practicing. He’s warming up. He is getting balls down the middle of the court, which pros rarely see in matches. Passing shots are usually hit to the sides of players, not at them. This is not great practice. He does go back to the service line sometimes though, simulating practicing a first volley. For better practice, more realistic practice, he should back up and start again every couple volleys.
    4. He’s using more shoulder turn on the backhand volley, partially because that’s how Bh volleys are hit, and also because his grip favors the forehand slightly, an Australian grip, and he’s not changing much or at all for the backhand. His fh volley is flatter, and his bv has more underspin, because of his grip.
    5. He’s the most talented volleyer in the history of tennis, seemingly equal to McEnroe.
    6. His overhead is simple.
    It’s a pleasure to watch him on RUclips, TV or live. I’ve seen him twice from the front row.

      WTF do I know about tennis? Ok here we go:
      1. I’m certified USPTA Elite Tennis Pro for 35 years.
      2. I’m a certified PTR tennis pro.
      3. I’ve coached 60,000 hours.

      5. I’ve served as hitting partner/traveling coach on the USTA Satellite and ATP Pro Tour including at the US Open main draw Men’s Singles.
      6. I passed the USPTA written exam with a score of 97.25%.
      7. I’ve accumulated more USPTA Continuing Education credits than any of the 182 tennis pros in my three state section over the last four years and I have earned 650 lifetime credits.
      8. I’ve been accepted four years into the USTA High Performance Continuing Education coaching program.
      9. I’ve made prize money in 80 men’s open tournaments.
      10. I’ve won prize money in 10 senior tournaments.
      11. I’ve been ranked #1 in my section in men’s open doubles (four years), mixed open doubles, 35-over singles and 55-over singles.
      11. I’ve been ranked #1 in men’s open singles in Northeast Ohio.
      12. I’ve been a speaker/presenter a a few coaches conferences.
      So, that’s WTF I know about tennis. Do you think that’s enough experience and credentials to post a comment on RUclips? What’re your credentials? . . . Impress me. I’m still learning weekly. But, I know a little something about the sport.
