  • Took a stop in Roanoke, VA. to do a little train spotting. Caught this Amtrak backing into the station. This train was heading north with stops in Charlottesville, Culpeper, Manassas, Washington dc and a few others on its way up to its final stop in Boston.

I can verify that the train originates and terminates in Roanoke . Prior to the addition of a second run in July 2022, the train set parked overnight in its yard, east of the station. With the addition of the second run, I don't know how the train sets are managed. I did see a set at rest in its yard this week during daylight hours, while driving through. When passenger rail service returned to Roanoke a few years ago, the RNK station was newly constructed to prepare for it and a yard was created for Amtrak's use.

This line runs between Roanoke and Washington DC.

@@dvferyanceThe trains that have Roanoke as one terminus run northward beyond Washington DC; most, if not all run to Boston, MA, according to Amtrak. I have travelled northward to Washington DC and Philadelphia, PA for transfer to other Amtrak routes.

A few times over the past year, I have watched the late evening train pull into Roanoke's Amtrak platform then back out, switching to the track that leads to its yard, via the the West live feed posted to RUclips by the Hotel Roanoke ruclips.net/video/cV3kP5FSUDk/видео.html and Virtual Railfan's live feed ruclips.net/video/bDUD4SNfu5U/видео.html The Virtual Railfan camera I referenced has pan, tilt and zoom and is operated by their designated volunteers. Unless Tthe Amtrak train is approaching, at station, or leaving, the camera is usually pointing elsewhere. The scruffy looking roof in its at rest foreground is the top of a GG1 in the outside yard of the Virginia Museum of Transportation.
