John Bolton and Mike Pence Criticize Biden’s Handling of Afghanistan: A Closer Look - Late Night with Seth Meyers

As a young man, John Bolton supported the Vietnam War enthusiastically but purposefully avoided serving there himself, because he said "I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy." Basically, John Bolton is the definition of a chicken hawk.
He's everything I utterly despise about the right and their hypocrisy.
And we wonder why he Liked Donald Trump, at first, lol
I will say this:
"I may avoid wars, but I will also oppose them, lol."

Can we just start calling chicken hawks John Bolton's then?

The Afghan war was not at all a debacle for those in our great land who matter most: the defense contractors. They made billions upon billions, which was the entire point of this otherwise pointless endeavor.

It always about money and power. Hands up all those who think t**** and Pompeo had a plan to help all those who helped America in Afghanistan? Anyone? What happened to all those visa applications? Apparently they were binned by the previous administration. They were planning to deal with them as they dealt with those Syrians who helped America. Just leave them to their fate. I've watched a lot of pundits talk about the exit from Afghanistan and have to say that Seth did a surprisingly good job at explaining it. Most left out the historical context entirely, or severely skewed the situation by using tiny sound bytes or clearly partisan guests. He also got at the hard and awful truth that the only reason we were there so long was because it was never politically expedient to leave.
Regardless of historical context,They[Biden] stuffed up the evacuation big time, You have some how deluded yourself it was not political expedient to leave,The reason they stayed there was it was financial expedient, WAR is a business, every heard the saying AMERICA is open for business, that why they stayed there.
@@dennisdobin8640 dude I don't think you understood what I meant when I said it was never politically expedient to leave. The end was always going to be a mess because it was a war we couldn't win. Biden was the one who finally said enough is enough, basically put to action what all the prior administration said needed to be done. And of course here we are, exactly what is happening, there’s no way to pull out Afghanistan without horrible repercussions to the Afghanistan people, otherwise the United States will be in there forever trying to defend it, the sad thing is Biden was actually right in his speech when he says, how can I justify putting more American troops and lives in there and at risk, when the Afghanistan’s themselves don’t want to defend it. Good point, but not what people want to hear. It doesn’t matter how fast the pull out was, it was going to be a horrible mess. The Taliban already knew. what they need to do to take over. Where are the captions?? 😭 They’re the main reason I watch Seth Meyers
The crew cracking up in the background makes everything way funnier than it ever would have been with a live audience.
we spent 20 years there training Afghan soldiers and giving them weapons.. and when the Taliban came, they put their weapons down and put up no resistance. so this was never going to go smoothly. i just don’t see why they didn’t get our people out before withdrawing?
At this moment more people are being shuttled out. No one has been abandoned because the process is still going. Not to mention for the last 6 months the US has told everyone they were leaving. They were warned. Thousands could have left, Americans and Visa Holders.
It's like you hear the Hurricanes coming but you wait till it hits and wonder why you can't be helped. So now you put first responders in danger to save your ass.
The process is still ongoing. So quit saying 'they abandoned them'. As long as our "first responders" are there, then it isn't over.
Biden never imagined that not 1 single Afghan soldier would as much as pick up a rifle to protect their country.
@@SS-kg3tx Protect from whom? The Taliban? You do know Taliban are Afghans too, don't you?
Multiple “What About Bob” references, my heart is full
Missed a trick, though, I think. I’m sure one of his team could come up with a legit funny version of my first thought on seeing the poster. “Baby steps out of Afghanistan…” (“Death Therapy” might be too on the nose during the COVID wars…)
Dump is the name..Bullshits his game..just like Hitler..he lies on lies..
Seth this segment is why you’re by far the best late night host. Thanks for bringing up Barbara Lee and criticizing both the Fox News and the Neo-Lib media as well. 👍 You’re a good’n.
John Bolton. Captain Hindsight. The man has no shame. Thank you for exposing his incompetence
The only mistake made was Bush's decision to put our country there in the first place!
He went there to get Bin Laden, but couldn't even do that.
No, it goes beyond that to when Taliban was trained and funded by the U.S during the Cold war.
@@toastedjoe1013 Bin Laden who was just sitting at home watching movies.
If only we had a very expensive organization famous for logistics.
Ooh: the closing, damning line of moral truth, threaded into just one more Mets jab, and then topped by the surprise movie clip call back! Very artfully done! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks Seth, for setting it straight.
John Bolton cites Trump and Biden as Tweedledee and Tweedledum, as though those are opposites.
No, John. In Alice In Wonderland, they're both idiots. So, you're wrong to use that as a comparison, but also wrong factually, in that Biden may not be perfect, but there's no way in hell that he's as stupid as Trump. Few people are.
HEAR! HEAR!...
I understood it as a criticism of them both.
He meant it as they were basically the same. So you are wrong all the way up to the word idiots. After that you are on point.
@@Koffling I've just rewatched it. You're correct. Although, Trump being a much bigger idiot than Biden still stands. :)
Pence and Bolton criticizing Biden for the outcome in Afghanistan is like a home builder criticizing a painter for the incredibly slip-shod condition of the construction of a 20 year old house.
Biden merely put the finishing touches on a project these 2 all but laid the foundation of.
Trump, Pompeo and Pence purposely left this to put on Biden.
Except that BIDEN hadv8 years before TRUMP to fix this....you can't just PICK & CHOOSE...WHOS TO BLAME...WHEN THEY ALL ARE...no one hands are clean
THats like blaming Pence for Bidens inability to pronounce words off the teleprompter c'mon man
@@adamjohns7963 i blame Pence for wasting space and oxygen.
Biden could have razed the house and built it his way. Instead, he knows it's shoddy, paints over it anyway and sells it to his mother.
What About Bob is a masterpiece. Hugely underrated.
The funniest thing in this video is when he said "combed " while showing a picture of John Bolton &his mustache
Karl Rove: "Would have been better to have stayed." Was the unspoken "indefinitely" implied or outright ignored?
implied. dudes like karl rove & john bolton would have pissed their pants with glee if we just stayed in afghanistan indefinitely, dumping billions and trillions of dollars into the military industrial complex only to help their stock portfolios.
Nice.
Neocons make good $$$$$$ on forever wars, they never had a plan to leave when they started.
@@dietotaku BINGO!!
All these translators and ngos should have been in the US already…if it hadn’t been for the #Fail45 and his lackey Stephen Miller. That guy literally stopped the process of trying to bring them here. As far as all the bureaucratic red tape…anyone that has ever had to deal with immigration understands the frustration! 😔☹️
When Seth Myers is a more honest broker of the news than the actual news is, you know we have a problem.
When I joined the Navy, the Vietnam war was winding down. When I was discharged, Desert Storm was winding down. I applaud a President willing to take the heat for determining enough is enough. How about we give Bolton and Rove each an M4 and see how their sphincters work overtime. Cheers....
So when Seth's brother called him out for being a pothead in high school, he meant Prince of Tides all along. Gee, TIL
You can look at Tencent selling the leaked information. There's a lot of information that the hackers suspect is not leaked, it was sold by insiders on purpose. It's also a bit like China playing games to get ID card login. Chinese schools need ID cards to register. A name requires an ID card, and a school bus also requires an ID card. And if you are studying, did not take the exam, some technical schools will call you, who leaked it? Never trust people, most people have seen your identity, your identity is no secret
I think you are on the wrong page...both of you.

Two great segments on this. I'm proud of the show
