Ailee was super popular back when I was getting into kpop and I fell in love with her voice. She makes all of those amazing techniques and high notes look so easy and effortless!! I would rewatch her covers of Whitney Houston's I will always always you and Beyonce's Halo all the time because I was just so impressed by her voice and the emotion she's able to portray through it. But she kind of disappeared off people's radar and didn't get as big as she deserved internationally imo. She was criticized for her appearance over the years vs the idol standard + it's rumored her former label essentially had her blacklisted from major network programs and performances. And "legal issues" and "contract disagreements" occured after where when Ailee didn't agree to resign the contract which was up after "Room Shaker". The theory had been that once she made the decision to not re-sign, they cut her "Room Shaker" promos and public appearances bc prior to the actual song release she had been slated for shows/events that was later pulled from. She, nor the company, has ever fully confirmed your theory nor what I've said. Just was saying what a giant chunk of the fans had gathered from the stuff she had insinuated before. @@Nicoleicole As much as I dislike her old company she said many times they never put her on a diet. It was her own decision and it didn't have much to do with her not renewing her contract. She finished the 7-year contract and preferred to establish her own company, probably for more creative freedom and also because they didn't promote her properly. Also technically she had no legal dispute with them since the contract expired but indeed there were rumors they were blackballing her and preventing her from promoting on music shows. Her last studio album was recorded under the old company but released in July 2019 months after she left the agency (February). She could release the album just fine, but she couldn't promote it properly.

Ailee was the first Kpop artist I followed predebut. To say I was obsessed with her back in the day is an understatement lol. She was and is still one of my favorite vocalists and performers. Mamamoo was compared to her when they became popular from their first appearance on Immortal Song 2. They were considered “4 Ailees” bc of how vocally powerful all four of them were and naturally charismatic on stage. You should definitely check out her stages on Immortal Song as well! Homegirl is a LEGEND.
oh, you'll be hearing several of these songs in various offstage mamamoo videos (and likely already heard one or two, though i'm unsure). her music was pretty much everywhere back in 2013-15, if not a bit earlier (she debuted in 2012). "u&i" especially was known pretty much everywhere and sung by nearly everyone at the drop of a hat... she also performed on 'immortal songs 2' fairly often, which, of course, are must-see performances but, sadly, not must react to (thanks kbs!). sometimes opposite a similarly named solo artist that's definitely worth checking out, ali...who has an incredibly unique voice she was actually born in the united states, colorado to be exact, though she grew up in jersey. she moved to south korea in 2010. she's quite good friends with amber, former rapper of f(x), because of this... as amber put it, the english speaking community in south korea is pretty small, so everyone gets to know everyone else and celeb or not, they often hang out together sadly, her story involves one of the darker sides of the music industry... she really do quite well early on, though there was the overwork thing that's entirely too common in kpop... and things got even worse when she opted to not re-sign with her agency but instead opted to become a free agent, despite being in the middle of working on an album at the time... the label apparently had delayed that album specifically to try and ensure she'd re-sign with them so weren't happy she didn't (i dunno how true this is but really wouldn't put it past them...). she thought they'd continue with the album, just with her now being a free agent and things would be good... but afterwards, once she founded her own one-woman agency, she suddenly found herself blacklisted from performing anywhere... all her broadcast activities suddenly just got cancelled with no warning... her former label's founder had gotten some influence due to managing mnet show contestants and was supposedly using that to get her blacklisted out of spite (again, i don't think it was ever actually verified but several sources hinted quite heavily at it from what i recall... and read in a brief search just now. and again, absolutely wouldn't put it past them) so... she went quiet for a while, a couple of american releases, a few ost songs. and now she's in ravi's agency, the first artist that signed with it. with wheein being the second

She has done collaborations with many renowned artists in Korea and everyone likes working with her. her mentor once mentioned that she had nothing to teach him because she already knew everything. Kpop idols respect her a lot and even say that she is the best of all. her previous venture of hers hurt him a lot, but she has stood up to it. Unlike other artists, she has done it alone with her voice and perseverance, because she loves to sing and her voice sounds the same both in the studio and live. she is very versatile she sings, dances, raps and composes.
She has such a powerful voice... crazy. U can check out her busking performances. She said on some show that she has gone through a very tough time when people were criticizing her for her appearance.

She has actually been active she has released 1 album in 2019 called “butterfly”in 2020 she released a mini album called “I’m”following the recent album she released this year called “lovin’”ahead of the release of her third studio album. Ailee was insulted in YMC because she find she lost her voice if she keep obey the Diet standard.(500kcal Daily) This is the reason why she has to leave after the contract.

The discourse/rumor at that time was centered around how when YMC was absorbed by a bigger agency group, management changed. And "legal issues" and "contract disagreements" occured after where when Ailee didn't agree to resign the contract which was up after "Room Shaker". The theory had been that once she made the decision to not re-sign, they cut her "Room Shaker" promos and public appearances bc prior to the actual song release she had been slated for shows/events that was later pulled from.
She, nor the company, has ever fully confirmed your theory nor what I've said. Just was saying what a giant chunk of the fans had gathered from the stuff she had insinuated before. The whole forced "yo-yo diet" she was on throughout her career to appease the public could have been a factor as to why she didn't re-sign with an idol-focused company vs an indie-artist company (bc of the standards for idols vs artists/singers). 🤷

@@Nicoleicole As much as I dislike her old company she said many times they never put her on a diet. It was her own decision and it didn't have much to do with her not renewing her contract. She finished the 7-year contract and preferred to establish her own company, probably for more creative freedom and also because they didn't promote her properly.
Also technically she had no legal dispute with them since the contract expired but indeed there were rumors they were blackballing her and preventing her from promoting on music shows. Her last studio album was recorded under the old company but released in July 2019 months after she left the agency (February). She could release the album just fine, but she couldn't promote it properly.

Ailee was the first Kpop artist I followed predebut. To say I was obsessed with her back in the day is an understatement lol. She was and is still one of my favorite vocalists and performers. Mamamoo was compared to her when they became popular from their first appearance on Immortal Song 2. They were considered “4 Ailees” bc of how vocally powerful all four of them were and naturally charismatic on stage. You should definitely check out her stages on Immortal Song as well! Homegirl is a LEGEND.

oh, you'll be hearing several of these songs in various offstage mamamoo videos (and likely already heard one or two, though i'm unsure). her music was pretty much everywhere back in 2013-15, if not a bit earlier (she debuted in 2012). "u&i" especially was known pretty much everywhere and sung by nearly everyone at the drop of a hat...
she also performed on 'immortal songs 2' fairly often, which, of course, are must-see performances but, sadly, not must react to (thanks kbs!). sometimes opposite a similarly named solo artist that's definitely worth checking out, ali...who has an incredibly unique voice
she was actually born in the united states, colorado to be exact, though she grew up in jersey. she moved to south korea in 2010. she's quite good friends with amber, former rapper of f(x), because of this... as amber put it, the english speaking community in south korea is pretty small, so everyone gets to know everyone else and celeb or not, they often hang out together
sadly, her story involves one of the darker sides of the music industry...
she really do quite well early on, though there was the overwork thing that's entirely too common in kpop... and things got even worse when she opted to not re-sign with her agency but instead opted to become a free agent, despite being in the middle of working on an album at the time... the label apparently had delayed that album specifically to try and ensure she'd re-sign with them so weren't happy she didn't (i dunno how true this is but really wouldn't put it past them...). she thought they'd continue with the album, just with her now being a free agent and things would be good... but afterwards, once she founded her own one-woman agency, she suddenly found herself blacklisted from performing anywhere... all her broadcast activities suddenly just got cancelled with no warning...
her former label's founder had gotten some influence due to managing mnet show contestants and was supposedly using that to get her blacklisted out of spite (again, i don't think it was ever actually verified but several sources hinted quite heavily at it from what i recall... and read in a brief search just now. and again, absolutely wouldn't put it past them)
so... she went quiet for a while, a couple of american releases, a few ost songs. and now she's in ravi's agency, the first artist that signed with it. with wheein being the second

I'd recommend checking out her performances on Good Girl when you get the chance. Honestly all of the Good Girl participants are amazing so the whole thing is worth watching. But her performances are "Don't Cry for Me," "Headlock", "GG", Tango and Grenade.

She has done collaborations with many renowned artists in Korea and everyone likes working with her. her mentor once mentioned that she had nothing to teach him because she already knew everything. Kpop idols respect her a lot and even say that she is the best of all.
her previous venture of hers hurt him a lot, but she has stood up to it. Unlike other artists, she has done it alone with her voice and perseverance, because she loves to sing and her voice sounds the same both in the studio and live. she is very versatile she sings, dances, raps and composes.

Ailee is interesting, personally I'd track her somewhere above the ones you listed, at least in Korea. She hasn't been as active the last five years, which is why you don't hear about her as much. But yeah she's one of the artists that a lot of those people you mentioned look up to
She has actually been active she has released 1 album in 2019 called “butterfly”in 2020 she released a mini album called “I’m”following the recent album she released this year called “lovin’”ahead of the release of her third studio album. She will be coming out with a full album to finish her trilogy…
